Hello there! I am a 15 year old aspiring musician, and Liebestraum No.3 is one of the most beautiful pieces I've had the pleasure of playing. I would really appreciate it if you check out my video for this piece on my channel and leave me comments and advice. Thanks!
@chtimixeur Possibly. If /watch?v=G-tWLTOLE00 is a trustworthy source, then it is. That version is exactly the same as the one I love; I don't even need to check my iTunes to certify it. <3 Thanks. :]
@zetsuXitachi: So this piece was not a Liszt transcription of an original published Schumann piece? But a collaboration between those two, so this is the original piece? =)
@zetsuXitachi: Liszt was best known for making transcriptions of other composers original works. He made transcriptions of Lieder(songs), Operas, theatres, symphonies etc. He made more transcriptions than original works, but he allways made it to a new artform because he was a pure genie. This solo piano Version of Liebestraum 3, is acctually one of his own Lieder works. But Widmung was lieder by Schumann, but as allways, Liszt makes something totally new of it. No need to remove the tag ;)
@zetsuXitachi It´s originally a SONG (lieder) composed by Schumann. Liszt made a piano transcription of Schumann´s song. Not a collaboration even thought both were contemporaries.
Both Lang Lang and Yundi Li are fantastic pianists. But Lang Lang is better at the more flamboyant songs by Beethoven and the like, so he wouldn't be as good as Yundi Li in more delicate songs.
Simply playing the right notes means nothing. You need to have expression, tempo and everything. Judges do not only grade on the correct notation.
God I truly hate Lang Lang. Yundi's talent is being shadowed by idiocracy and a Liberace clown. Good thing true classical enthusiasts can see right through Lang Bang.
Great feeling in Li's interpretations. Thanks for the great upload :D
God I truly hate people who compare lang lang and yundi li just because they're both chinese.. i mean, what does lang lang even have to do with any of this?? jesus.. Good thing TRUE classical enthusiasts can truly see that music shouldn't be judged from the colour of the skin
Your comment is completely irrelevant in which they are both Chinese to begin with. If I was comparing Lang Lang's ethnicity to that of an ape, then we'll talk. Besides, watch Bang Bang play Hungarian Rhapsody no.6. You'll know what I'm talking about.
I'm getting sick and tired of people watching performances of Yundi Li and going "he's much better than lang lang.."etc. And why lang lang? (just because chinese?). why not any other pianist? Is it because you hear their chinese-ness as they press they keys? does it bother you how lang lang "chineserizes" chopin? and you much prefer how yundi li makes it sound chinese? Or maybe you just think that its only possible to like ONE chinese pianist.. which is completely ridiculous ..
you are an idiot. we dont compare yundi li and lang lang because they are chinese, we compare them because they are talented new performers with very different styles. When you say lang lang "chineserizes chopin" it just proves that you are a retard.
i was trying to make a point.. you obviously didnt get it lol... but look at the comments.. everyone is mentioning lang lang.. which is totally irrelevant
lang lang is very good but i can tell hes a realllll pro cuz he adds his own parts and makes his own tempo. poeople who r listening to lang langs verion to pla in a competiotion will get low marks because u will play it like lag lang. but both of judges r looking for accurate notes listen yundie makes it more accrate. if ur doing competion listen to yundie but for pleasure listen to lang lang. both artists r great pianoists
Actually.. Lang lang and yundi both seems to have their own personality in this piece.. they seem to give out different feelings.. soo.. no doubt both of them are great artists.
Without doubt the most beautiful version of this wonderful piece of music by Yundi Li. Played with lyrical beauty and passion that is unsurpassed by any other artist before or since.
the best version I have heard so far. Yundi Li is much much more talented than Lang Lang. Though I have yet to hear Kissin's Liebestraum when he was much younger or Richter's performance, this has got to be the best verision for me so far.
technically speaking, but now that I listned to his version of Lebenstraum I realized that it is rather sloppy.Lang Lang's performance of the same piece is much better even though I hate Lang Lang and his freakin grimaces
3 dislikes?! how?

It is so beautiful and touching, best interpretation!

Very well played. Understated which is better than overdone as with the latter
they piece becomes trite, hackneyed, supercilious. Perfect interpretation.

Best version of liebestraum no.3 for me. Better than Kissin, Lang Lang, Richter and others.

A beautiful rendition of Liebestraum No. 3, but I know of a better one. (I burnt it from a CD entitled 'Total Classics'.)
Sadly though, it is merely entitled 'Liebestraum No. 3 in A Flat' and has no information about the pianist!

Another great Liebestraum n.3 is the one played by Alicia de larrocha. I hardly recomend it!!!!
You can find it in You Tube: "Liebestraum (No. 3) - Alicia de Larrocha, Hispavox, Late 1950s / Early 1960s - Liszt"

@zetsuXitachi: I just did some research, and Widmung was Lieder, wich Liszt transcribed, as he did with most of his other works.
But for all I know, maybe they worked together on both the versions at the same time, so it was a collaboration after all :p

Yundi Li is an excellent pianist who's qualified with an international Chopin competition victory and some excellent performances.
Lang Lang is a popularist clown who's playing style and facial expressions are both exagerated to the point of vulgarity.
For Liebestraum 3, in my opinion Rubinstein's is the best here on youtube.
Yundi Li is excellent however.
