Interestingly, when the new government came to power in 1912, there was a provisional clause guaranteed the safety of the abdicated Qing clan, not massacred like Tsar Nicholas 6 years later. They were even allowed to keep much of the forbidden city, just that the political upheavls in the 1920s finally drawn them out of the palace.
