  • Anyone know the tuning for this?

  • @StoryNClark yes the tuning is D N T E V N T R Y I T

  • @JazJustice But my guitar only has six strings. ...Ohhhh, I see what you did there. Actually, you're probably right, despite my sarcasm. This may be one of those things best to listen to and appreciate, rather than duplicate.

  • Dave Stewart does look like Johnny Depp in this clip.

  • Nothing gets between Johnny Depp and his Levis.

  • geez whos that cheesy poser white guy?

  • @2catahoula The cheesy poser white guy is Dave Stewart (Eurythmics)

  • @Breatherable i know just kidding

  • @Breatherable @2catahoula what's amazing is the only way we could get this film distributed (which I solely funded and produced) was by having me in it (which was against my wishes) you see no-one in TV or any record company distribution etc. was interested in the documentary about these amazing blues players so I went ahead and paid for it myself , so that's me the cheesy poser white guy trying to bring this stuff to you !

  • @DaveStewartOfficial Is there more footage? I've really only seen Tav Falco's Honky Tonk.

  • R.L. IS THE SHIT JACK,,,,,A REAL SHAKE'EM ON DOWN SHIT KICKER!

  • this is an awsome tune and video, thanks for uploading it!! the kids need to see there music roots in raw form like this pure, quality!!

  • That's the way a guitar have to sound !!! Hillbilly country blues is so powerful, so authentic !

  • check out blind willie mckenzie

  • this is the shit ! but that one cat looks outta place i guess he was just walking by and decided to hang out cant say i blame him!

  • poor man's johnny depp is diggin on RL-- go ahead man, feels good. gets us all. even Micki Free gettin down 1:35

  • The people in the background are paid extra's. It's sad because so many would love to be there. Love them delta blues!

  • @SECtennesseeSEC Those people in the background are The Burnsides, R.L. Burnside's Family

  • @SECtennesseeSEC I was wondering if you were the casting director on this video shoot and that was how you knew they were paid extras? Fantastic! :) Who knew?

  • @hubcapslash Oh WOW, look another smartass on youtube who would have guessed it.

  • Deep Blues: A Musical Pilgrimage to the Crossroads

    See it folks!!!

  • The light skinned gentleman is Dave Stewart

  • johhny depp? naw, looks more like dave navarro

  • Woah, johhny depp man slow down.... lift that heel any higher and you might cause a quake.

  • look to the right and listen to him on accustic doing this,, yes its even better,,, strange as that may sound to ya....

  • He had a good guitar--Telecasters are real nice instruments---and they work fine for theblues---at least they do when I play them--ha! This fella has seen plenty and done lived some tough stuff---so he can sing the blues with authenticity!

  • 0:32 look, it's Johnny Depp!!

  • And me.. I just figure it out!! It's soo simple!!! Looks so complex

  • If someone can figure this riff,.. Thats Chuck Norris

  • The movie this is from, "Deep Blues" is a great blues movie. Would have been even better with more Burnsides.

If you like this clip you should see the whole movie.

  • all - i consider myself a good guitar player but can i hell get this sound!! help!! someone must know how to do it!!

    dammit this sound is priceless!

  • u mean that dark sound that almost sounds like a bass?

  • yep, thats the one!

  • also, that ' twick' sound that seems to come rom the high e damn its doin my headin RL is a god

  • @kleingrid he holding hes thumb on the string but not so hard =)

  • try using a bass! i use a yamaha B100-II and 12" cabinet for a warm & rich sound. works wonders with electric and [semi]acoustic guitars!

Roland Bass cube30 is a fine piece too!

  • it's comes from deep in his guts.

  • it's easy.

you have to be a black sharecropper born into poverty and experience a lifetime of hardships and loss, then kill a guy by shooting him in the head, serving 6 months for it, then become an iconic blues musician.

or at least that's how RL did it.

  • @RadiatorBoy he said shot the guy in the back .... like you've never shot anybody

  • good lord this song is fire!!!!!! sidenote: some serious gerry curls going on in the background

  • still missing RL.

  • Holy moley moley. What an awesome man.

  • Its not holey moley. its HOLLY SPRINGS BABY!

  • top boss track...

stop ur bikkerin gerls get with the beat

  • If you don't think this is some bad ass guitar, then your opinion is worthless anyway. this is pure down home northern mississippi blues. every modern guitar player should take notes and pay respect. I've been playing for 25yrs, seen it all, done most of it. I had to learn this the minute i first heard it. it is the essence of what a guitar player should be.

  • this my friend is real blues guitar playing!!!!!!!

  • @ominousav : you're totally right!!!!

  • @ominousav love your comment on you tube . so right , this is bad ass guitar . wish there was more guys like rl burnside.

  • @ominousav oh how right you are bro!!

  • That's rhythm. One can not program this in a ticky tacky box. Music with a heart ... beat.

  • Since the OP must not be around to accept my video response I'll explain. As others have said the "fruitcake", "cheesy", "poser" in the video was Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics. I uploaded a video (the only one I have in my profile) of RL Burnside singing "Big Boss Man" with Dave Stewart playing lead guitar at Junior Kimbrough's Juke Joint. Dave Stewart is hardly a fruitcake, cheesy, poser...but it's amazing how some people will jump to conclusions when they don't have the facts.

  • Well said!

And thanks for the upload from Junior Kimbrough's Juke Point.

  • You mean this "cheesy" poser?

    (see my video response)

He plays a pretty mean guitar for a poser.

    ; - )

  • RL, RL, wish he would have lived a little longer.

  • Is the white guy Burnside's friend Kenny Brown? He just can't keep still! And who can blame him? ? ?

  • Well, I don't know who it is, but it's definitely not Kenny Brown.

  • definitely not Kenny. . . Kenny's not a poser

  • hes a guy from england who helped do a documentary on mississippi blues, called deep blues

  • He's David Stewart. Used to be half of the Eurythmics.

  • He's David Stewart. Used to be half of the Eurythmics

  • we will all beliving in wood shacks like these when world meltdown starts...but least we will always have the blues to see us through..

  • @pmay222 cant wait, then this fat ass nation will know what it means to live again....

  • This is one of the very best videos on "You Tube". The playing is quite sparse and wonderful, Burnside's warm expressive voice with those beautiful modulations, people unable to keep still as he sings, and the images which just capture the atmosphere oh so beautifully. Thank you thank you thank you!

  • Holy Soul-Glow-Fro on Dwayne!! Classic Bro - and layin'em down! Cheers

  • what a soul this guy has...

damn makes me wanna drink whisky / play guitar dusk to dawn.

  • This film, Deep Blues, will be screened at the Deep Blues Music and Film festival July 18-20, 2008 in Minneapolis/St Paul, MN.

  • I'd love to learn that song. Any idea what tuning he's using?

  • Just regular EADGBE I think

  • This one's just standard tuning,,,, It's all pretty much an Em chord.... the biggest thing is the rhythm ... from the soul to the right hand !!

  • It's definitely in E, though he's tuned a little sharp...

  • all i know is that that fruit is watching burnside play at his farmhouse, and i'm not.

  • If I had a rock, id bust his head....

  • whats with the white fruitcake in the clip? it ruins the whole thing?

  • well if it wasn't for him we might not have had this clip. He helped make the trip and filming of burnside possible. who cares what folks look like!

  • he was digging the music, what more do you want?

  • It's just not right having the fruity white guy in the clip.

  • Dave Stewart did some excellent fieldwork and made a great documentary. Nice to see him happy about recording RL Burnside [ea] and the joy it'll bring us!!

  • sure seem to know your "fruits" get a grip.

  • i miss this guy, and junior's juke joint. man, they don't do like this anymore.

did anyone go to the picnic this year??

  • RL is one of the all time greats. Up there with the best. It's a shame that recognition came so late in his life but, at least it came.

As for the 'white guys'. If it weren't for them we still wouldn't know about RL and his amazing talent.

  • This kicks butt except for camera shots of the queer white guy with gay boots dancing to it.

  • R.L. rules!!! Love the documentary as well.

  • One of the many reasons as to why the White Stripes suck balls.

  • Right on, at least I'm not alone in thinking that White Stripes suck.

  • they should give dave stewart a beat down

  • Real blues from the soul gotta love it,,,,,check out seasick steve too

  • amazing musician?

  • "The white dude" is not the Fat Possum guy ! He's Dave Stewart (ex-Eurythmics) who produced this great movie "Deep Blues" in 1990.

  • this guy is great....

  • Mistitled. Great.

  • I actually got shivers watching this and that doesn't happen so often...

  • Why are those people looking so bored? R.L. kicks ass and takes names later.

  • is this late 1980s? is the white dude the fat possum guy or is it the film maker's boyfriend or something? really super fantastic stuff.

  • "The white dude" is not the Fat Possum guy ! He's Dave Stewart (ex-Eurythmics) who produced this great movie "Deep Blues" in 1990.

  • Friggin Brilliant earthy reeeeeal! :)

  • oxiI?

    brisa

  • Rural L. Burnside - I get all teary eyed when I think about how he is no longer with us. His life... well, well, well! But then when you listen you know and realize that he'll be with us forever!
