The "1516" date is the reinheitsgebot (purity law) that, although not obligatory still very popular, set the standard for beer production in Germany for centuries. The first Reinheitsgebot was declared almost on the doorstep of the Weihenstephan brewery. The brewery itself has been in operation since 1040. So not far from a thousand years old.

I really like their hefe beers. I think these are the best hefe beer followed closely by the likes of Erdinger and Paulaner.

just picked up more of the kristall weissbier and along with it a 6 pack of the weihenstephaner hefe weissbier.

greg you gotta get some, i enjoy it more than the kristall weissbier.

yeast on the bottom gives it the banana taste i have fallen in love with, this will always be in my refrigerator from this day on.

this beer is what hoegaarden wishes it was. Cant stand that stagnant pond smelling stuff. Erdinger is still the best though. Nice vids btw

just cracked open a bottle of schneider weiss hefe-weizen.

kristall weissbier has a more banana taste more carbonation with no yeast on the bottom.

the schneider has yeast, but it does not make it tastier than the kristall weissbier

the kristall weissbier is an A+.

when i saw this at my local, it was rated A and i have to agree.

i will always keep this stocked in my refrigerator and seeing they been around over 4 hundred years i know thier not going anywhere soon.

next to it was schneider weisse hefe-weizen and its also rated A.....will try it today and let you know how i like it.....you give the best reviews on you tube greg.

I'm sipping one of these right now and this is one of the best beer experiences I've had in awhile. What really blows me away about this beer is that it truly offers the best of both worlds. That is, while this beer is RELATIVELY crisp and easy-drinking, it still has PLENTY of great flavor that I've come to expect from German wheat beers. You hit the nail on the head in that the hints of banana are immediately evident. I would HIGHLY recommend this great beer.

They're meanwhile hard to find too! We just like the Hefe Weizens more..
