Play that funky music white boy !!!!!!!

  • Now there' a change, a white band with a mostly black audience.

  • Excuse me as I listen to this more than once.

  • I was 10 when this was on the radio...and I love it now more than EVER! Was fun learning that it was written in minutes after some black guys asked if they 'played any funky music'....perfect!

  • brill track to play

  • <3

  • i always thought it was a black man who sung this song

  • @08greeks me too. i thought it was a black man who sung this song!,, wow without seeing the video, you would have fooled me,.,

  • @alishadtaylor He does say "Play that funky music white boy..." ya know? Kinda gives the game away right there. *Wink*!

  • Yes and I was a teenager in 1976 and I remember this being on the radio and my mom being upset because she thought this was a black singer. Trying to convince her the band was white but with no computers, etc. to just look this up to show her - you had to get a magazine with their pictures or wait for them to possibly come on a tv show. haha

  • IM MAD NOW MY Genration didnt get to live in the 70's ony in like (for me 1998 to well now. 2012) so we missed the greatest music ever and alot more simperler (ithink thts how u spell idk.) time. my generation missed full house threes company um the nanny queen ( even though we do the stomp stomp clap from we will rock you at assembles) we also missed going to 6th grade in elementary school the country and well not just country all types of better music. :D

  • @superawsomechick1997 You definitely missed out on the greatest era of music. Great T.V. shows and the best movies. Sadly those of us living thru it at the time didn't realize what we had. We thought rock and roll would always be there and always be as great. But then the 80's came and destroyed it. RIP 70's, you are missed.

  • In 1976, in Rolling Stone magazine, these guys denied they were saying "white boy" but rather "Dwight boy" who was a member of the band.

  • IF YOU NOTICE THIS and actually CHECK IT OUT then THANK YOU.

My best friend, who died, use to say, ”Mark, even if I don’t feel good, God is good”. He told me that even though he was dying, he was never happier in his life--always praising God, always talking about God with me. Only God can do that. His name was Ron Williams. I wrote a song about this entitled--GOD IS GOOD EVEN IF; Just type: GOD IS GOOD EVEN IF (for the search)--God bless.

    Please LIKE this ◕‿◕

  • i thought the singer is black :O

  • Love this. Always loved the song but never saw it live. Thanks!

  • Used to love this song until I saw the video of Wild Cherry performing it. The indelible image of white guys with afro-perms diminishes the song.

  • Hey white boy. I will never forget dancing with my boss in Denver to this song. It will resonate in my soul forever. YEAH! Get into it! Play that funky music...dancing and singing. It hit me...play that funky music! Until you die....

  • LOVE IT~BLAST FROM THE PAST OMG!

  • @2:20 is that George Harrison with an afro?!

  • КЛАСС!!!!!!! KLASS!!!!!!!!!!

  • I teach English in Mexico and recently the question was asked, "What does funky mean?" This will be the answer for the next class--along with the lyric sheet. Sounds as good today as when I first heard it in '76. Get on the Groove Line!

  • Music for girls and black boys. Thank God for punk rock.

  • I use to think it was a black dude who sang it cause I heard it with out knowing the name

  • -. QUE BUENA .-

  • 1:37, hey, the bass player always gets down !

  • is that disco music or not?

i own a golden car , and i call it the DISCO CAR ^^

I want disco music in my car :D

  • I heard this in the supermarket this morning while I was doing my grocery shopping, and I just could not STAND still. There I was boogying in the aisle and swinging my way to the cashier. Another of the few customers there at that hour noticed me and started to giggle. I winked at her and boogied my way to the cashier anyway.

  • @jillssr thats how we all should roll ;)

  • @jillssr u know realy u felt like a cunt

  • @jillssr Oh hell yes. If this song doesn't make you move something is wrong. And I couldn't be happier to know this happens to people all these years later =)

  • @jillssr If true you are my hero.

  • im yellow and i love this song

  • @friggingbomb88 Go yellow!

  • After all these years, still loving it. g

  • Damn I forgot what the hell I was gonna say. Anyway your video is tight! :-) Diggin it a lot......

  • How cruel,,,,They made him play until he was dead. Any thing for the show I suppose.lol

  • 100% of the music you hear to day comes from classical.

  • yeeeeee ha. i even remember buying this from my tatty local record shop ALL THOSE YEARS AGO and STILL LURVE IT!

  • I want this video on my Asha 201 unit.

  • Love the song but the singer probably had a hernia after singing this song.

  • @Gcai1000 - So did they.

  • I'm learning the bass part to this song. It kicks ass. Gotta play it in a school talent show.

  • @mrdeersniper Good luck.....

  • I thought they were black LOL!!

  • @Gcai1000 Listen, music has no colour, just funk, rythmn, and feelings from the heart.....

  • Black radio stations say this the only white done song thats black.

  • This is more than just Funk, this is superbad, hip and happenin' and tight funk my man!

  • superbad ^_^

  • I dedicate this song to Rick Smith from Texas who has since passed away. "Rock on Rick." Lots of Love.....xoxoxoxoxo

  • I was just watching a video of a recent concert. Foghat At Jannus Live. Found out that the second guitarist in Wild Cherry, Bryan Bassett, has been with Foghat for over a decade. The guy is an awesome guitarist. The band cooks.

  • I am 65 years old and I love from operas to any kind of music

  • If people think this song it racist, they are wrong. Mentioning the color of someone's skin isn't racist.

  • Awesome. Reminds me of some Big Vessel stuff

  • YES We can!

  • NEEDS MOAR COWBELL!!!

  • Almost sounds like "Play that f*cking music" at the end

  • Great song to rock too and dance hard to.

  • i love thissssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • MAY THE FUNK GO ON!

  • oh fuck yeah

  • I heard this song a thousand times in a hundred different clubs in those years!!

  • i love this song!!!!!

  • I didn't say nothin about the music, I was talking about your ignorance. And by the way, in the 70's it was Bubblegum music, disco was early 80's, maybe 1979. As I said, Cocaine was a rich person drug. Dr's, Lawyers, Police Chief's, Hollywood. Wild Cherry may have been a Disco group but this one song was played as rock. Whatever you know about the Party Sceen of the 70's you have learned from the Bieber crowd. Stick with your Meth, Crack or Exstacy and your opinion, I'll stick to mine.

  • @icubracin12 FYI Disco was not an 80's thing. Disco was happening back in 76 to about the 1980.

  • Brilliant!

  • hmmm Vanilla Ice copy this song????

  • Lol..this isn't disco, its funk, and just so you know, 99% of the music you hear has come in one way or another from funk, the electro keyboard sounds you hear in a lot of modern music, bernie worrel, parliament/funkadelic, hendrix, tower of power, JAMES BROWN, talk about disco all you want but this blueesy funk is as the name says FUNK not disco, and the afro just tops it off ;)

  • @xBonafideRarity yeah i had a family member who is a wild cherry fan point that exact point out about the difference between funk and disco well i will admit when im wrong and i am wrong about calling this song disco it is most definatley funk, and isnt to bad but my statement about disco sucking i stand by FUNK ON PPL :)

  • @xBonafideRarity i wouldn't accredit 99% of anything to anything... ever.

  • @xBonafideRarity Exactly. Cool Funk in a disco era.

  • thumbs up if your listening in 250 B.C.

    IDIOTS!!!

  • @98RSabrina WTF does that mean?

  • @streetcornerjames wtf-what the fck..whats going on with this girl?

  • @streetcornerjames Its Means That Its Fuckin Annoyinq when People Always Say Thumbs Up If Yhur Listeninq To This In 2012

  • @98RSabrina WTF

  • @avutokojegovori Well Its Fuckin Annoyinq When Ppl Say Thumbs Up If Yhur Listeninq Too This In 2012 !

  • @98RSabrina Thumbs up if you misspell "you're" and call people "idiots."

  • @snoobeagle We all mispell sometimes, but we don't all call other people idots. One is an error - the other... not so much.

  • @SuperRomanticheart Yeah, well if you'll take a gander at the thread, you'll see the original poster calling a select group of people "idiots." This opens the door to counter-criticism in my book.

  • @snoobeagle I don't disagree.

  • @snoobeagle Additional note---this was in response to a user calling other users "idiots" in the course of a comment. We at Snoo industries do not frown upon typos and mistakes per se.

  • @snoobeagle Wasn't referring to u as an idiot, i never judge someone i don't know personally, and its not my job to stand judgement over anyone. We all carry our own faults some just conceal them better than others.

  • @snoobeagle Btw Bitch i dont need too be corrected by a lame ass like you okay :) dont hate

  • @98RSabrina too? Who would you like to be corrected by?

  • @snoobeagle, Only a fool would call someone a idiot, for at least trying.

  • @harleymoran the initial poster called us all idiots but misspelled in the process. Only on Jon Stewart's show can you really make do without getting the FULL story. The ENTIRE THREAD... is your friend. Get to know him.

  • Hey "Metalmonster56", you must be about Bieber age.. Cocaine was rare, Pot was the in thing you Punk and I remember every minute of the 70's. Cocaine didn't really show up till the 80's, dumb butt. Also I heard this song at the FIRST release, yeah child, I'm old..

  • @icubracin12 lol no i was part of the burn disco burn disco sucks rebellion of the 80s i did my fare share of burning disco vinyl and pyromania never sounded so good, and since you brought justin boogers name up thats strange that YOU bring him up what are you an in the closet fan? and before you flame old troll everyone has the right to thier own opinion and disco did ,has and always will suck and oh yeah have a nice day :)

  • A friend who thought they were black XD

  • PLay that funky music white boy

  • lol lol i thought this was a black group ha ha

@metalmonster - speak for yourself - disco music does not suck

  • Ah the 70s the decade that was paid for and sponsored by Cocaine. A decade that seen the emergence of disco but everyone was to strung out to relise disco did suck, and white boys getting ultra perms so they to could have that afro of thier dreams.

Ah the 70s we hardly knew you and those who lived in it cant remember you or those lost 10 years of their lives spent in a cocaine coma, but along came the 80s and the party was over the 80s generation made you relise YES disco did and does suck

  • boxing day 2011 im playing this song in my bedroom, mam calls my mobile, thats my favourite song she says, louder it now plays !!

  • WOW I AM SURPRISED TO SEE SO MANY RECENT COMMENTS. I played the video because my daughter said, that was a racial slur when we heard the song in a restaurant. I laughed and told her the band singing the song was white. I have it on a cd called The 40 Funkiest Songs Ever and play it everyday when I drive her to school. LOL
