Call me crazy but i think that when derek was in DT, the most awesome stuff of the band came out. Personally Falling into infinity is my favourite album!! That album shows more prog and even a little jazz than heavy, which i like most! Really call me crazy haha :D
Thats it!!! I finally heard it from the horses mouth!!! Neil mother fucking Peart said " If anyone could replace him it would be PORTNOY. Wow, thats news to me. I know, where have I been? So what. That is incredible. I always said RUSH spawned DREAM THEATER. Fucken Aye!!!...
It's funny, watching this and hearing Mike say that Metropolis Pt 2 would be released as a 20-minute EP. It's even funnier when he says that they got "carried away" with it, since it evolved into a 75-minute-long album.
Derek really doesn't really fit in with the band with that look. But eh. Like Portnoy said in his website, Derek is more of a rock star keyboard persona. However Portnoy was very discourage when this album was released. Thank god this band didn't fall that deep into obscurity
I think he didn't. Kind of unfair, really. The two other dudes asked really stupid questions and the first one looks like he doesn't even care what Portnoy says.
By the way I remember seeing this on TV but that time I probably had no idea how great band I was watching..
derek is so gay on this one o.o and it's acutally funny to hear derek talk about metropolis pt. 2, when he wasn't on it. didn't know it was meant to be an ep though.
fuck i always get confused between charls and derek, charls sung when day and dream unite the left and in 1992 they did images and words with james labrie so then after that kevin moore left then derek came for keyboards for a bit and then around 200 i think derek left and jordan rudess came right?
I have a vague memory of seeing this back in 1997, four years before I got into DT. Nice to see Micaela Metso with blonde hair! RYGUYROCKER: Kevin left in 1994. Jordan did one gig with DT that year. Derek was in the band between 1995-1998. In late 1998 Jordan became a full member of DT. Check Wikipedia and the official DT bio for more details. REDIFORKING: They (MP & JP) kicked Derek out because they liked Jordan's playing more than Derek's (based on the Liquid Tension Experiment albums).
also they felt that Derek's personality clashed with thier own... (they were all married and focusing on family... while derek was single and living the "rock star life".... )
kinda ironic... Mike was into coke near the end of that tour (touring into infinity)
Yeah, I also prefer Moore over Rudess, but I think it was a good decision to bring in Rudess. Still, between Rudess and Moore I prefer Moore. He gave better lyrics and ambience to the music, but most of the people prefer virtuosity over that... However, I think people should also consider virtosity more open minded and not only thinking in fast shredding.
Yeah, if you got my last comment, my bad, didn't realise what time period this was. acos was called metropolis II in its early days, its areally sweet version of acos, ill help u find it if u cant
A lot like...some combination of TDOE, Overture 1928 and the original Metropolis pt. 1. Somebody posted it in youtube, the instrumental demo of course.
``we got carried away and now it´s a 25 minute song´´ then they got even more carried away and made it a complete album, then they said ``why stop here?´´ and made it one of dt best albums ever.
@147pablox But always says"Mike Portnoy", I've never seen "Michael Portnoy- born in 1967". I have saw "Mike Portnoy- Drums" But I don't know what are you talking about, dude.
I would put derek in third place... His solos looked always like a guitar with a wah... Dont get me wrong i think he's a great player, though rudess brought new "flavour" to the band.
All the DT Keys guys each had their own style and are awesome musicians/ songwriters. But Jordan Rudess to me is the last piece of the puzzle and a perfect fit just in terms of how he meshes with the other 4. Just a great marriage of keys and guitars and everything else. Scenes From a Memory was the beginning of that and what a great beginning it was! It's their 2112. From what I heard this next album could be DT's Moving Pictures in terms of it being their next "arrival" album.
@charlesandhisworld I'm actually glad he's not in DT anymore, Jordan is the most talented keyboard player/Pianist I've ever seen. The difference is clearly noticeable in their albums. I still respect Derek, his albums of Planet-X are awesome.
Yeah, I know the song exists. I've heard it. It's just weird for them to not know how good Scenes from a Memory was going to be, or that it was even going to be an album at all.
Lol I thought that the three guys in front of Mike and Derek were kids from Hanson

Derek takes it in the arse like rob halford! His greatest keyboard influence is Elton John which explains why Anna Lee is so faggish.

Derek didn't meet what DT was looking for in a keyboard player. I personally think Derek was good, but it is clear that Rudess is far better.
Hayacafrita 2 years ago
I don't like Rudess as a musician.
I know that he's a really cool and funny guy and also a freakin' amazing keyboard player, but he only contributed shit to Dream Theaters music.
Long live Kevin Moore: the best prog keyborder of all time!
