Call me crazy but i think that when derek was in DT, the most awesome stuff of the band came out. Personally Falling into infinity is my favourite album!! That album shows more prog and even a little jazz than heavy, which i like most! Really call me crazy haha :D

It's funny, watching this and hearing Mike say that Metropolis Pt 2 would be released as a 20-minute EP. It's even funnier when he says that they got "carried away" with it, since it evolved into a 75-minute-long album.

Derek really doesn't really fit in with the band with that look. But eh. Like Portnoy said in his website, Derek is more of a rock star keyboard persona. However Portnoy was very discourage when this album was released. Thank god this band didn't fall that deep into obscurity

I have a vague memory of seeing this back in 1997, four years before I got into DT. Nice to see Micaela Metso with blonde hair! RYGUYROCKER: Kevin left in 1994. Jordan did one gig with DT that year. Derek was in the band between 1995-1998. In late 1998 Jordan became a full member of DT. Check Wikipedia and the official DT bio for more details. REDIFORKING: They (MP & JP) kicked Derek out because they liked Jordan's playing more than Derek's (based on the Liquid Tension Experiment albums).

Yeah, I also prefer Moore over Rudess, but I think it was a good decision to bring in Rudess. Still, between Rudess and Moore I prefer Moore. He gave better lyrics and ambience to the music, but most of the people prefer virtuosity over that... However, I think people should also consider virtosity more open minded and not only thinking in fast shredding.

All the DT Keys guys each had their own style and are awesome musicians/ songwriters. But Jordan Rudess to me is the last piece of the puzzle and a perfect fit just in terms of how he meshes with the other 4. Just a great marriage of keys and guitars and everything else. Scenes From a Memory was the beginning of that and what a great beginning it was! It's their 2112. From what I heard this next album could be DT's Moving Pictures in terms of it being their next "arrival" album.
