It's called ska-core, it's not real ska in the sense of Dandy Livingston or Toots Hibbert. But the BossToneS are great anyway, seen em' live three times.
Remember hearing the Bosstones for the first time Jan 1994 when my mate lent me Devil's Night Out, More Noise And Other Disturbances and the Don't Know How To Party albums. Talented band. More Noise...is a great album and this was one of the heavier tracks on there. Also check out the song Dr D on that album which also kicks ass!
I liked awfully quiet, the slapshot cover, and dr d..and there were others, but my cd's are quite far away now..I still feel fortunate enough to have in all honesty have grown up with them..
KitchKatch: Your right, this particular song isnt ska. But you have to realize that the Bosstones dont claim to be nothing but ska, thats why their genre is Ska/hardcore. So dont post gay comments when you dont know the bands intentions.
@SCHMeNGeNiTe13 Destroy them? I didn't know one group was trying to take the other out. LOL. I've seen the bosstones more times than the Toasters, and I love Bosstones shows, but The Toasters are amazing, just like Laurel Aitken put on an amazing show.
Oh yeah Bigcat6mm, guns totaly rule. In fact, they rule so much that they take people lives, isn't that just the coolest thing!? It could just be me, but i don't think the Bosstones are PROMOTING gun violence, eh?
I think his point was that guns arent the problem, its the morons who have them (you know, the old "guns dont kill people..." sayings) but yeah actually Im with you on this one.
The Bosstones introduced SKA to the masses. It is amazing that the core group have stayed together for this long. Guns And The Young brings back so many awesome memories...I heard it and never looked back. Plaid & Proud!
As for the "sabbatical" I think it's a little cavalier to cross your fingers for a return. After hearing "Jacknife to a Swan" you come away with a sense that after two decades of undeniable asskicking that the time has come to hang it up
Actually they didn't. I love the Bosstones but there were many bands before that were mainstream ska. Madness, the Specials, Oingo Boingo, Desmond Dekker... They introduced ska to the masses when they did, but they certainly weren't the first.
I have every Oingo Boingo album and I'm not sure I remember a single ska track on any of them. They were new wave pop. Experimental, alternative...but not ska.
tabs anybody???

They were a lot of the things you say. But they were also considered ska.
Have you heard the track Only Makes Me Laugh? Or No One Lives Forever? Go back and listen to them and you will see just how much ska is in Boingo.
