Imagining and mentally exploring alternative courses of action doesn't prove free will. It's possible that it's predetermined that I will mentally explore the "alternatives" of having pancakes, cereal, or an omelette for breakfast this morning and then, having done as I could not have failed to do in imagining those things, proceed to do as I also could not have failed to do and have a bagel.
Increasing the complexity of a system does not necessarily create a system who's results cannot be predicted. I would argue that as the reactions between our component pieces (atoms + molecules) can be predicted, and it is these reactions that produce what we perceive as thought, that therefore our thoughts follow predictable paths.
