This was so good!! You can really cook. I made the mistake of not trimming the fat so for the viewers please listen to her and remove all fat. Also make sure you fry this on medium heat I forgot b/c she clearly says it in the video. I quickly corrected my mistake. Thank you! You rock!!!
I just made this tonight with your Sweet and sour sticky sauce. It came fantastic. My brother was upstairs visiting my mom and smelled it. He came downstairs and I offered him some and he practically ate all of it.. He was my guinea pig. I always need a family member to try something before I serve it to friends or other company.. lol.. but he just loved it.. Im having company tomorrow and Im making more!! Thank you so much...
@popcorn1441 I shoot this unscripted, so it's something I just have a bad habit of saying (along with "go ahead") - I am trying to stop saying both of these :)
what i did was after the chicken was ready.. i added some mix veggies to the skillet and added the sweat and sour sauce and some oil and fired it all up. ANd then added all the chcikend and some more sauce and then served with boiled rice..
Half and half is just a mix of half cream and half milk. If you use just the cream the batter will be a bit richer, but if you use the 2% milk it may not be as good b/c it will be athough it were watered down just a bit :)
Oh my goodness - I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel! you make so many good things that I've always wanted to know how to make!! Everything sounds so good I can't wait to start trying these out! :)
I found that with the batter it wasn't as runny as it needed to be so I added another 1/3 cup of creamer.
In other recipes instead of 1/3 cup creamer and 1/3 cup water they call for 1 cup of water so I just added another third of a liquid to balance it out and it worked.
That was pleasant to watch and the entire recipe seems easy to follow, although I haven't cooked it yet, I'm pretty confident after watching you explain it like that. I also wanted to ask is creamer the same as half and half?
hi, I made this and my batter cooked really fast and my chicken was stringy and not really done. I used canolia oil and heated it on high until hot then I turned it down to level 6. My stove controls are: lo-sim-2-3-4-medium-6-7-8-high. What would you reccomend I do. Great recipe by the way
Hi - since the batter cooked quicker than the chicken, I'm thinking that the temperature was probably too high. The best thing to do would be to get an oil thermometer and keep the temp at about 350F :)
Creamer is actually a mix of half cream and half milk. It's what is put into coffee to lighten it. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks for watching :)
Hi - creamer is a 1/2 milk and 1/2 cream combination that is used in coffee. It is also called 1/2 and 1/2 here in the US. Is there an equivalent to this in the UK? Let me know so I can tell others - thanks :)
Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons . com w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)
Wow awsome awsome. My only question is how to make it more crispy? also to my sweet and sour sauce I added pnapple, carrot, onion and bell peper. Thank u for the reality of cooking this at home!
The batter here produces an airy light coating. If you want the chicken crispy, you can simply just dip it in egg white and then in cornstarch; like if you were making fried chicken. Your additions to the sauce sound delicious :)
I tried it tonight for my wife and her parents with the Half and Half and I really did not see a difference in texture or taste or even while cooking it between the Half and Half and the powder creamer mixed with milk. However, I will say that it took a lot longer to mix the powder creamer and it kept lumping but I got 99% out of it though but it did take a while. Good recipe regardless, they were impressed. Plus powder creamer has a much longer shelf life opened or unopened.
I wouldn't use this batter with chicken wings b/c it is more of a soft airy coating. I would just do a little egg white and either flour or cornstarch for the wings :)
hi! I just wanna ask what's the best alternative for half and half creamer just in case I won't find this in the grocery store...Please reply I want to make this tomorrow...thanks :)
Would powder creamer work? The only Half and Half I saw in the coffe section was these small single containers like you would find in the diner and then just regular powder creamers, but nothing with the "Half and Half" name... I am assuming I bought the wrong stuff.
Actually I mixed the powdered creamer with milk and a little extra milk instead of so much water and the batter looked like yours with color and from what I could tell consistency. I cooked the chicken, obviously burning some even though all was in the pan (One chicken breast worth just for me.) at the same time give or take a few seconds... on an electric stove. Regardless, although not quite like the buffet it was close enough and tender... I hope I cooked the chicken long enough.
Also I had a lot of the batter mix left over since I was really only trying it out since I did not have the actual "Half and Half". Can that batter be wraped with platic wrap and stuck in the refridgerator even after raw chicken was has already touched it? For how long do you think it can last? Or does raw chicken immediately start the process for spoiling?
No I wouldn't use the powdered creamer. If you can't find half and half, you can make your own by simply mixing a half portion of regular creamer to a half portion of whole milk. If you can't find regular creamer, then I would just use the whole milk over the powdered stuff :)
I figure you're talking about the deep fried battered shrimp with the sweet sauce and walnuts? I've made this a few times, but don't have a recipe written down. I'll write it up and post it sometime after the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you for the comment:)
First, I apologize Lila, I spelled your name wrong. Yes, that is the dish! I can't wait for it, thank you. Btw, I tried this tonight and it was a hit! NO LEFT OVERS! Advanced Happy Thanksgiving! =)

The baking powder adds to the texture it gives it just a slight soft bread like feel :)
