  • They can take their CGI and shove it up their ass. This was, is, and always will be the best werewolf transformation scene.

To have seen this for the first time, as a kid, was beyond priceless, and far beyond terrifying.

  • There's something about tangible effects that CGI just can't do...........I appreciate CGI BUT it is some damned cold and perfect. Life isn't like that.

It sucks when "they" can make anything that can be conceived show up on the screen.....but the stories are nowhere as good as these classics......ditto "The Thing" remake and "Werewolf In London".......all good movies that held off showing things until the story had grabbed you.

    Steve

  • Its Rick Baker doing the makeup. The guy is a last in and amazing art. This movie scared the ___ __ _ _____ _ _ _____ out of me as a little kid. It was actualy this scene . Everything else was ok. But the changing just did it for me. I probly seen this the first time in i would say 83. I was about 6 then.. Awsome film.

  • I swear...this still scares the shit outta me...I saw this back when I was a little girl and had nightmares for years after...lol

  • This transformation is alot more realistic than today's computer generated stuff IMO

  • 3:25 So she decids to throw orange juice at the mofo -___-

  • 2:20 RAGE FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i haven't seen this movie in years...i didn't realize that this werewolf was Robert Picardo from Stargate: Atlantis and The Doctor in Star Trek Voyager...and many other things he's done.

this is a movie you don't look at when you're 8 yrs old. i miss the 80's

  • @rbmt3rd2007 Right. Many 80's horror flics were pretty scary. Society wasnt as desensitized as it is now. Now you need pseudo snuff films like Hostel and Saw to get people to even flinch. The Vampire and Werewolf films today are abysmal.

  • thanks some of those movies are so dark its hard to see them

  • Ok now there's a 7 foot tall hairy werewolf, with razor sharp teeth and 3 inch claws standing in front of me, that just took 15 minutes to transform. I think i should run....NOW. Nah maybe i'll just throw some acid on his face and then slowly WALK away.

  • BITCH MOVE THE FUCK AWAY.

  • Comment removed

  • No.... to me they should have left all the bubbling skin bullshit out of that... made it look very cheesy to me.... Just watched GRIMM tonight, now that's a fast and good change ... :-)

  • @RAMWolff1350 You are comparing todays computer generated effects with the special effects of years ago. This transformation scene was done without the benefit of computer animation. In order to fully appreciate this scene you have to appreciate the work and technology of the day. This took a lot more to film than just sitting at a computer keyboard. It's an amazing piece of film making.

  • @brewron Trust me, I'm well aware of that ... I'm going to be 51 in January so I've been around for allot of the modern era of special effects... I just thought the bubbling effects were a bit cheesy is all... I know all the goes into all this.. I'm a "second disk" fan, meaning I buy DVD's and blu-rays that have all the extras included so I watch interviews and the making of and I DO appreciate what all goes into it! :-)

  • @brewron I agree, this and the Thing are highlights of the era.

  • if you pause it at 1:56 thats enough to freak you out let alone the full transformation.

  • what she should of done while transforming threw the acid and then ran like hell

  • The best werewolf transformation scene OF ALL TIME!!!

  • @chrisfl1001 yeap I agree

  • This scene scared the living hell out of me as a kid

  • such a long transformation just so when he's done we dont even get to see him attack her NONSENSE!! but good movie

  • NONSENSE!!

  • while he was busy transforming in the earlier part she shld jus take someting HEAVY AND smashed his FREAKING face early on !!! mayb she was too scared shit to move ....

  • If I was her I would of been running as fast as I could as far away as I could. He'd probably eventually kill her but I would not be standing there watching him turn into my reaper.

  • Who knew that the hologram doctor was actually a werewolf.

  • these werewolfs are great and scary...the ones now are fucking retared they look like teddybears...

..and come on! if i was that girl i would run so fast that the only thing that wolf would be eating is my dust...

  • I remember seen this when I was only like 5 yrs old. It fuckin scared the shit outta me. They don't make horror movies like this anymore. I think C.G. effects kinda ruined horror movies.

  • @sictripp66 I agree...the dim light and the grainy picture and the special effects make up back then made them seem more real...now everything is so polished it makes it less life-like I guess...

  • Dee Wallace was so fucking hot!

  • Gosh, I remember puberty being that rough.

  • @jmstampe and slow....

  • Can you state the nature of the lupine emergency?

  • she had enough time to go to a silversmith, place her order, have lunch and be back in time to shoot him with a silver bullet!

  • 1:57

  • 1:49. scary shit

  • thats what happens to me when I'm on the toilet after eating taco bell

  • I remember watching this as a kid.. being scared outta my pants.. this movie is a classic.. thanx for uploading this part.. favorite werewolf transformation, ever!!

  • I love how Dee stands there..."I would have ran out the F*#!*!* door!!"

  • @JM13121 Most critics call Jamie Lee Curtis the queen of horror but I believe Dee Wallace Stone is The real Queen!

  • @danny79124 Yep! I agree with you on that. This part use to scare my ass when I was younger. Now, I appreciate how it was artistically done.

  • @JM13121 It's called genuine, paralyzing horror mixed with wondrous awe at something as unbelievable as a man turning into a FUCKING werewolf!!!

  • its to light, it had better effect and was scarier when it was darker

  • shit by the time he was done turning she could have taken a nap an had dinner and still had time to run away

  • As soon as he pulled the bullet out of his head, I would have been in the next county. I sure as hell would not have stood there and watched him transform into a werewolf.

  • This stuff is interesting to watch- but the stop motion photograhy of the early Classic werewolf films was much more effective and scarier mainly because they were so fast- there was no time to get away- Dee Wallace could have had a smoke and a cup of coffee and still have time to run away from this werewolf. Still a great film though- When it comes to Werewolves- its' all good.

  • Transformation scenes are always cheesy. Much better effect can be gottem from keeping the wolf and the human separate.

In any case with a three minute transformation the woman has time to call the police, the national guard, Dr Van Helsing, Bruce Willis and have time for a cosy cup of coffee while waiting for them to arrive.

  • 80's horror movies are the best. whether its werewolves like this one, or even stuff like the DEADLY SPAWN, which is a science-fiction horror movie, the 80's definetaly destroy modern horror.

  • Fun fact about the dueling werewolf transformations, Rick Baker was actually hired by Dante first. Then, biggest douche in the universe John Landis used The Howling’s production to fast-track American Werewolf and steal Baker away, leaving Dante with his young protege Bottin as a consolation prize.

  • The best werewolf transformation scene ever, in my opinion. Thanks for posting!

  • This has to be one of the best Werewolf transformation scenes in movie history!!

  • the howling 2 is better

  • @UserUK201

Wrong! Howling 1 is better. Howling 2 SUCKED ASS!!!

  • Well, the reason she stood watching as long as she did was 1) paralysis from terror and disbelief, and 2) he was barring her way by placing a strecher between them barring her from the exit.

  • Holy God, what a woman is waiting to run off, to see the whole transformation? I threw acid on him in early and disappear far away as fast as he could.

  • Does the transformation turn her on and make her wet or something? Listen to her gasp!

And,secondly, why does she stand there the WHOLE time, stupid cunt?

  • @blunklaura We would have missed the transformation lol

  • @ski4257 Yes,it is pretty cool to watch... :-)

  • I was waiting for her to look down at her watch

  • Best werewolf movie and transformation

  • I love how at 1:37 Dee Wallace looks like she's kinda sighing outta boredom. I love this movie but this part seems pointless. After all that, and she gets away in like a second.

  • @horrorjunkie92 LOL! ur right like: c'mon dude transform faster, i got groceries to buy.

Also more than afraid she looked and gasped as if she is getting horny or something, still the transformation is more real than let's say......Twilight?

Oh, please don't forget the awesome popcorn sound during the transformation (sarcasm included).

    Peace.

  • @forramelagalleta Lol agreed. I've never watched the Twilight movies, but I've seen a clip of the werewolf transformation in the second one. Looks more like a Nintendog than a werewolf.

  • i think at about 0:24 i would proper shit myself....

  • 1:56 I CAN FAP TO THIS

  • @sexhaie

    SICK!

  • @ooOmegaSupremeoo to answer your question: the same idiot who takes things too literal lol

  • I love the way his snout shoots out of his face like a locomotive at 3:00--funny, elegant effect.

  • @MStrat1106 True that, remember this is a old movie, but still those efects were much better than the fairy powder sprinkled bullshit of today.

Having said that, i still put "An american werewolf in London" as number 1 , as far as Fully lighted transformation effects, scariness, and action.

  • he just keeps getting uglier and uglier and uglier until a 3:21 he just looks like my dog when its woke up........ then she throws acid in his face and he gets even uglier :O

  • yeah.

  • boohaahahahahhaaaa sooo funnyyyyy............

  • bitch kick his nuts when hes turning LOL

  • Man, that's gotta hurt.

  • Ahh the roles Robert Picardo had to take before Star Trek Voyager came along...

  • how do i get this very piece of music?

  • lol look at that huge smile @ 1:56

    >:) im happy to be a werewolf

  • yeah i wonder if he s gonna mangle you after he's finished changin?

  • die wartet still bis er voll transformiert is und schreit dann erst und schüttet säure ? so ein quatsch und werwolf sie ja albern aus ! bad moon oder werewolf the series is much better

  • WTF is up with his forehead?

  • why didn't she run when tried to pick out his own brain

  • @reggie771 it is a bullet he is removing on that bit :)

  • Before he removed that bullet from his head or If I saw bumps forming, the acid would have already been thrown to his face.

    awesome transformation though :D

  • @LadyNinjaKagero Maybe she thought he was going to turn into a butterfly. :D

  • Love American Werewolf in London, but this is the ultimate Werewolf transformation scene. Hats off to Joe Dante and God Bless Lon Chaney Jr. !!!

  • I can't for the life of me figure out which werewolf transformation scene was the scariest to watch: An American Werewolf in London or The Howling. Either way they both scared the hell out of me, I can't even watch both movies in the dark.

  • my favorite horror movie of all time next to "the thing" cuz they show the graphics and the physical change it looks more real..nowadays everything is compuerized =-(

  • Why stand there and watch when you could be running or throw that damn acid?

  • a rather stange smile at 1:55 :-)

  • See my hand...it grows nails...your standing there...you might as well watch...strobbing, all body....

  • holy shit ! at 2:04 i would of been outta there and away from that thing. christ.

  • @cujo9 I would have been out of there whenever he started growling in the first 1:00. lol

  • I always thought the transformation was painful -

it had to be. The book is different from the movie

    in some ways, obviously.

  • this was my shit in the day

  • i think that the transformation took 3 mins because this movie was shot in 81 and there are some good Efects i mean the transformation.Well thats my Opinion.I like this movie

  • THE HOWLING es de las mejores peliculas de hombres lobo que he visto.Vivan los 80 s.

  • He really gave her a piece of his mind!

  • even the director said when they originally screened the film for test audiences, kids asked, why doesn't she run away since he is taking so long changing into a wolf? that's sure enought what I would have done.

  • 80's horror effects - all we have are the memories :'(

  • 1:42 - 1:49 WAT DA FUCK? lol... wow

  • by the time this werewolf finished his transformation, i would finish all my chores and dinner

btw why must she throw the acid after 3 minutes of waiting?? why not throw it from the start?

  • if werewolves takes this long to transform, ppl might have enough time to reload their guns with silver bullets and shoot them

  • My God, Dee Wallace was gorgeous!

  • as crappy as this movie is and how long the transformation actually takes, rob bottin is THE KING of fx makeup! eat that CGI!!

  • ....why would anyone WILLINGLY stand there, watch dude pull a plug of meat out his head and turn into a werewolf is beyond me.

  • @markVIIchick maybe she has a werewolf fetish XD

  • @markVIIchick Why she doesn't immediately skedaddle ... Quist (that's his name) has her cornered and trapped, and I get the impression that the "gifted" use their transformations to transfix their victims, anyway.

  • Bet he's fun at parties

  • I wonder at times if he is enjoying his transformation, beacuse his smilling at some parts.

  • at the begging he looks more like he is mutating in the toxic avenger, awesome scene anyway, but i still prefer "an american werewolf in london" transformation

  • cool

  • Watched this movie just the other day for the first time. Boring as fuck! This sequence is the only remarkable scene.

  • the lady should have killed him BEFORE

his transformation was complete but she

was to chicken to do it

  • fusso isso eh muito sinistro

  • I had an idea once what this movie would be like in the Doctor Who Universe this transformation seen would a great cliffhanger this would really be behind the sofa stuff

  • creepy and eerie.

  • wtf? this was hilarios, what a sick scene and what a freak!! awesome effects but i think werewolf in london got better transformation scene but howling got better werewolf fully transformaited

  • Frankenstein and The Incredible Hulk

  • Comment removed

  • And why does she stand there to watch the WHOLE transformation as if to be sure he's not freakish enough???? Wow...

  • damn, beat me to the punch lol

it's like, "see how he' slowly turning? now would be a perfect time to get some good distance right?"

  • @carla2shines I'd chalk it up to paralyzing fear

  • @carla2shines Maybe she thought he was going to turn into a butterfly. :D

  • @carla2shines She's doing research on canines for her role in Cujo.

  • Awwww, he just wanted to pee on your leg to mark his territory.

  • It looked better when I watched the film cause it was darker in the flick. What you don't see alwaus look scarier

  • wonderful

  • thats a great TF

  • thats because this is real,

  • thats called movie magic its not real lol

  • I think he meant real as in Non-CGI. This was all done on-screen.

  • holy shit!,...I would fuckin poop myself if i saw that shit in real life!

  • Aaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!

  • lolz with a wolf as scary and hideous as that, there would be very little you could do, ha ha

  • it would be so cool, if someone uploaded this movie here...

  • yeah the howling transformation is much better than american werewolf in london, because first the guy doesnt to undress his clothes 2nd it doesnt take that much time, 3 the effect and the sounds fit together. so yeah this one is way better

  • Yeah, this transformation is more like a superpower. That's what makes it cool... he's doing it on purpose.

An American Werewolf in London was clearly a very painful curse. Not cool...

  • why do people think this transformation is better then then tranformation in american werewolf in london, i think this is good but i prefer american werewolf in london

and plus that woman deserves to die she had a good 3 mins to run away but no, like all horror films the victims hav 1 brain cell lol

  • This one's better because the final transformation is the definitive werewolf design. This is how they are supposed to look.

  • its close to midnigh and something deep inside you starts to crawl-- thriller!

  • y the fuk did`nt the lady do something?!

  • she did! she shit her pants!

  • oh ok

  • Surely in the time it took for him to transform, she could have got the hell out of there, rather than stand there gawping. It's kinda like on "The Omen" when the priest gets impaled on the falling spire, he just stands there screaming for like 10 seconds before it hits him, why not just step out of the way :D

Still, it's a pretty good transformation scene!

  • LOL yes this I will agree with. I'm sure the length of time was too 'show off' by the fx team and the director of what they could do. These are 'hero scenes' Unrealistic in some sense for the soon to be eaten/killed but fun for the audience, macabre as this sounds! Btw The Omen were very good films (1+2)

  • half way through the transformation - i could see my mother in law - i thought fuck when did she take up acting

  • do not understand or comprehend what goes into making films of this nature. Before the advent of cgi and it's endless possibilities, time and cost savings, flexibilty etc These oldschool techniques were the works of masters of thier craft. Before u throw stones try doing something better, without the aid of today's talent and awesome computing power.

  • It must be said that as a whole (all elements combined) that this sequence was and possibly still is the best werewolf transform to date (besides A.W.I.London) Rob Bottin and his crew, the music and editing crew, sound fx,and finally the actor himself did a spectactular job. Before CGI's flexible and much cheaper development pipleines these scenes could become very expensive(esp retakes due to technical problems)I would gamble most of you people criticizing or laughing(although I respect ur opin's)

  • LOL! HAHAHA! THis was sooo funny! XD

  • why dis dumb bitch wait 3 minuts wen da wolf fagot is transform and den she threw da acid at it? my country we no wait dis 3 minuts we kick da shit out of wolf fagot and den shit on his head and anus. praise praise

  • Omg I think I've just cracked 4 ribs from laughing!!! His forehead made me laugh too much! And those eyes.. LOL

  • I have always been fascinated by Werewolf stories , since I saw an apparition of something that looked a lot like the creatures in this film, when I was 4 years old.

  • why the heck would anyone wait for the transformation though, during it id either run or try to kill the damn thing

  • like i said this is just what i heard, this is not me making this claim

  • by far the most influencial werewolf movie ever the werewolf from the howling is by far the most copied, when was the last time anybody saw a werewolf copied from american werewolf in london in any movie that came out after it?

  • 10+ :D :D I nearly laughed my butt off! :D

  • If werewolves were real, I'd hope they took over 3 minutes to transform. That'd give me plenty of time to escape.

  • @kkpp232323 LMAOOOOOO! Too Funny!!!

  • @kkpp232323 I've always thought a satire of that would be funny. Cut from the werewolf to the victim smoking a cigarette, reading a magazine, taking a nap, etc.

  • @kkpp232323 Exactly. I remember when I first saw

this, and thought, "I would've been out of that office

before he cut the first fang.

  • @kkpp232323 I would just wait until it completely transformed, and then throw hydrochloric acid, that is conveniently sitting on my desk, into its face.

  • Lets be honest he looks better as the wolf, not to be insulting but that guy has flat tire face it looks like somebody done popped him! 0:20 ugly man 3:21 not a bad lookin fella im sure he does pretty good with the ladies

  • That took entirely too long. lol

  • ummm what he pulling out of his head

  • amazing movie. it was shot in Mendocino, CA and L.A.

Best horror werewolf movie with "american werewolf inLondon" released the same year 1981

  • the transformation is too swoll.I think that dog soldiers is a better film.

  • genialna scenka ..piekne

  • when was this made and how many movies are there in the series? im a big fan of supernatural movies. what is the plot lines?

  • this is like the innovator of transformations isn't it? the howling was the best werewolf movie when i was growing up...didn't have all the cgi's back then man...fucking bummed out early 80's lol

  • seriously, why the hell is he smiling?? (1:56)

  • evil guy, this one

    but it's creepy:S

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ is he done yet? and why the hell is that bitch still doing there run away bitch stupid movies the chick always stays to watch ,haha then she throws him piss hahah piss in a bottle

  • I know right? If I was her I would have totally bolted by then. By the time he finished transforming I would have been 5 blocks away. At least. Dumbass woman.

  • lmao no shit man as soon as i seen those chewbacca hairs...forget i'm done i'm fucking ben johnson on roids lmao.
