You could get Halotron 1. With supplies of Halon drying up in the future its the only ecenomical way to go with hand portables were you cant use co2. Recycled Halon 1211 is okay in the US but no new Halon can be made.
I wish I bought a few of those 100 lb. wheeled Halons a while back, I'd make a great wad of cash in 20 years!
I dont know why they dont use the amerex fast flows on the 3d fires? They'r kickass with that high flow rate.
People usually think that because of the huge clouds, of dry chemical extinguisher class BC, it could easily kill fire. But we see that require persistence and very dense clouds for considerable time, to kill fire like that. Halon extinguisher can kill fire much easier.
Ya, if you have 3d fire hazards you should really get the "fast flow" extinguishers put out by amerex and I think ansul has something like that now too. That size running fuel fire with even a 13 fast flow PK would be nothing.
I have never got to use a handheld Halon on a 3d fire before. When I tried a Halotron 5 pounder on a few gallons of jet A it seemed pretty ineffective. The damn EPA should not be able to regulate extinguishing agents, they just dont get it.
I dont know if its better in how fast it extinguishes the fire. I only got to use a handheld Halon twice.
Halon is clean. Halotron 1 is less effective then Halon from what I have heard and based on what I got to try. My test was not scientific so I would take my results with a grain of salt.
Almost all of my expeience with Halon is with wheeled units. Even then we have never really used them on anything other then propane props just for the hell of it before they ahd to be recharged.
Generally lower UL rating. For a 22# unit you might get a 2-A rating. Remeber there is no such thing as a "cure all" type extinguisher. Consider what you need it to do.
What's the extinguisher on the ground?

But halon is a CFC, and so is not good to the ozone layer. It's forbiden in several countries.

Is halon better than drychem if you don't care about the mess? What's wrong with halotron 1, I heard it was just as good but pricey!
