why the piccolo, flute, oboe at the end (Più mosso) play *2 triplets* instead of sestina? the main tempo remains 3/4...not 2/4 !?! very odd... thanks . best,
The conductor must have been told to hurry up or something like finish this concert because he took that way too fast. I've never heard it played that fast, but it still was amazing.
@SPRoubi2020 This is the way Rossini meant it to be played. Check out the exact same tempo that Gustavo Dudamel conducts La Orquesta Juvenil de Venezuela with. Brilliant playing and correct. tempo. Rossini was a Swiss Italian with emphasis on the Italian.
"As we walked along the flatblock marina, I was calm on the outside but thinking all the time. So now it was to be Georgie the General, saying what we should do, and what not to do, and Dim as his mindless, grinning bulldog. But, suddenly, I viddied that thinking was for the gloopy ones, and that the oomny ones used like inspiration and what Bog sends. For now it was lovely music that came to my aid. There was a window open, with a stereo on, and I viddied right at once what to do."
Abbado has something here, something quite great in fact. I am not sure exactly what 'it' is, of course all the elements are together (good acoustics, Abbado seems in a good mood, instruments, orchestra, players, tempo). I may just have to say this is on par with Toscanini, maybe even better. 5 stars for Maestro Abbado here.
i love rossini i love abbado i love this overture but all that sounds a little strange in a neujahr konzert. in Wien. the radetzky March at the Pesaro Festival, it would be strange too, no ?
che meraviglia!!!! penso ai concerti di capodanno trasmessi in televisione, a quelli visti col mio adorato papà che non se ne perdeva uno ..... ti voglio tanto bene pa'!!

Rossini is always such fun, especially in this overture!
Years ago, a movie theater wanted to show off its new stereo system and they chose this piece to do it. Good choice, I'd say!
Mr. Abbado sure looks like he enjoyed himself!
