Physical Therapists must now have a PhD. I also don't know any RPT that makes 100K a year unless they have there own practice. Even at that, many private practice RPT's are having a difficult time making ends meet. In fact, I've read where more and more PT's feel they may be forced to close their practice with the new Medicare and HMO cuts coming up Oct. 2011.
@MrNikooruchan PTA's need 2 years of education, a semester of that, typically your last semester is mostly working, anywhere from 300-450 hours, great experience, and you usually get hired right away with all the experience. Also you can be licensed and that helps with pay. 25-35 an hour is the usuall starting salary and thats with an AS degree. With 3-5 years exp you can expect 40-50 an hour, pay is amazing.
@occuther she's definitely giving higher range salaries..not all starting PTAs and PT's will make those salary ranges.
though i am going to school with someone who works as a PTA while he's in school getting his doctorates in PT, and they pay him between $20-$40 an hour doing PTA work, depending on the day.
@PotentialWhale that does not make any sense...how can you pay someone between 20 and 40 dollars? that range is A HUGE hourly variation and i dont see how thats possible...
@occuther $20/hr on a normal day, $30/hr on weekends or overtime, $40/hr during holiday times (as in not just the holiday but the whole week it is in).
though to be fair, this is in the northeast and typically PTAs get paid more here.
This is way off. wth? talking from PT to PTA back to PT and then ended with occupational therapy? Occupational therapy is a whole entire different field/degree.
Depending on where you live, you will get paid differently. For example if you are a PTA working in one state, you could get paid just as much as a PT working in a different state. It all depends on where you are (location and what type of setting) hospitals and outpaitent pay less, while homehealth and nursing home pay more.
well wat she meant was over all of being in school. bachelor which takes 4-5 yrs then master or doctorate 3 yrs. am getting my kinesiology degree then get my doctorate in pt.
Horrible video, this lady has as much knowledge on Physical Therapy as I have on alien space ships.... first there are 2 roads, Physical Therapist Assistants which is a 2.5 year program plus pre-recs and/or the Doctorate of Physical Therapy which is an undergrad degree (BS or BA of 4 years) then PT school which is another 3 years. Salaries vary from state/city/county/location. You want to know about PT, talk to a therapist, that is the most accurate information you can get!
@Bwe97 Well you have to get your masters degree before you can even start the PT program. So if you add it all up, then yes it could take up to 8 years.
Really now your a DPT and you make 45k a year, well sucks for you cause me as an assistant rake in more than that! You must work in a 3rd world country to make that amount of cash hahahaha....
yep that's correct thank you for giving us information that we already knew!!! People say that money isn't everything that's true in certain ways, but without money you can't buy a car, bike, food, etc If we didn't need money then the economy wouldn't be in the shape it's in, the sooner you get over the fact that money isn't everything the faster we as a country can make a difference!
