Gabriel ordered the exterminatus because chaos gradually took his homeworld cyrene, and the imperium law states any chaos trait must be exterminated although he ordered Cyrene destroyed Gabriel never wished it, im not sure which inquisitor it was that over saw the extermination of his homeworld but for some reason i believe it was Stele however its been awhile since i read the DOW omnibus however i might be getting my wires crossed with stele from the Blood Angels Omnibus

@LaurAgony Orks are a fungoid race. Where ever they go, they literally drop thousands of spores, like we shed skin, each one of these spores has the potential to find a crevice, a hole in the ground and gestate until they eventual grow into an Ork. Once a planet has suffered a WAAAAAGH! it never ever truly recovers. Orks will still be there thousands upon thousands of years later, cropping up in small feral bands in the dense Jungles or mountains. The Orks in this, are Freebooterz. Pirates.

@sparky668 So they are an exterior force, not the original invading Ork warband. Ork Freebooterz are drawn by the potential to plunder, steal Imperial ships and weapons and like all good Ork's worth their salt they will turn up for a good ruck while the rest of the system fights.

@sparky668 Well said! Many people don't appreciate how many different types of Orks there are and seeing Freebooterz is new to them. I'm pretty "old-school" so do appreciate them - I'm a Zoats, "Space Dwarves" and "Space Elves" man - don't play anymore but have always loved the literature, art, minis and recently, video games (but then Tau, Necrons etc. are quite alien to me). 40K has changed and refined quite alot over the years - good to see some classic material being re-introduced!

@andy7666 Well, the Necrons are pivotal to the main history of the imperium, so you'd better read up on that. I recommend the Horus Heresy series of books. And as many codex as you can, of course!

Yeah Chaos Rising may not have been as good as the original DoW2 but it by far wasn't garbage. And the pirate hat? Orks have always been comical no matter how deadly they are, and they are supposed to be a band of PIRATES in Retrebution so how about you actually get a clue of what is going on before you talk.

The pirate hat looks kind of stupid. I wish they put Tau in. I'm a Daemon hunters fan and I enjoyed all the Grey Knight books, but putting Daemon hunters in DOWII seems kind of pointless because the blood ravens in the game already carry much of the weaponry the Daemon hunters wield, say for a few details.
