I first heard this off the CD years ago and have been looking for it ever since. Mr. Holland's arrangement is upbeat without being "bright," and Mr. Cale's interpretation is exactly what how I would expect to hear the song sung from a broken hearted lover tasting revenge from a distance. Thanks so much for making this performance available to us!

I've always liked Cale's voice, but realize that it can be an acquired taste, like Richard Thompson's or Marianne Faithfull's. Great to hear how well it fits in this context. He may be dark, but he does have a sense of humor. Further evidence that Jools' is the coolest TV show ever!

I love this! How did this performance come about? Was this a theme for the show? Did John Cale do any other songs?

I just found some information about this show: recorded in december 2001, it was part of Jools Holland's New Year "Later". John Cale did just this one song. It is available on Holland's album "Small World Big Band".

Thanks for the info! I just bought the song on iTunes. It's not quite as good as this version though. This one is edgier!
