  • haha perfect, besides carradine don't appear a chinesse man

  • minuet 1:16 is JACKIE CHAN....

  • Bruce lee's kung fu = the most meanful martial arts

  • The kick at 0:41....not bad! :)

  • Even Bruce stated that he understood the hesitance in giving him the lead in a series, not only because he was Chinese with a high voice and noticeable accent, but because he was relatively unknown to the public. Watching him as Kato and in Longstreet, you can see that he was still learning his acting and martial arts on screen crafts. He wasn't very charismatic as Kato. Later, he was a charasmatic phenom. Maybe the move to HK pushed him to push himself. All things happen for a reason.

  • Bruce was simply in talks with Warners and Paramount about possible series pilot ideas. One idea was The Warrior about a martial artist in the Old West. The other was a modern setting. Neither of these was the Kung Fu that came to be. Bruce was later considered for Kung Fu, but Carradine was always the first choice for that particular series as they wanted a passive, serene character. Bruce was only known as Kato then and Kato was no later Bruce Lee phenom. Superstardom came to both as is.

  • was that jackie chan getting fucked by bruce?

  • Hollywood should be ashamed of themselves. They had the person who was born for that role and they didn't use him. It's sickening. I wish Bruce Lee didn't die so young. What a waste of talent. More importantly, he seemed like a very honorable and giving person who was not appreciated during his lifetime.

  • That roundhouse kick god damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • @ 1:18 that was Jackie Chan lol...

  • nice videos if he was actually was in Kung Fu...

  • This is how it should have been. If Bruce Lee had been given the role of Kwai Chang Cain, he might still be alive today.

    Damn.

  • it would be awesome i would bye every season if he was in it

  • The series was meant for him, but since then, the prejudices known in the film industry was in Hollwood, we surrendered the role of the deceased David Caredine. Too bad, actually was the idea of Bruce Lee!

  • Little guys are always beating up big guys.

  • uuuaaaaayaaaaaaaa fart

  • Chuck Norris has nothing to do with Bruce Lee not getting the credit he deserved until after his death... It was good 'ol american racism and prejudice... You can thank that for not being able to have box-sets of TV re-runs of Bruce Lee in Kung Fu... And to Chuck's credit, he did win several tournaments, wich is more than I can say for Bruce. But as an actor and philosopher, Bruce Lee certainly was better than Chuck.

  • en realidad kung fu, fue una historia creada por bruce lee, luego no se porque razon se lo dieron a david carradine...

  • I hate Bruce Lee. He should've lived forever! shit.

  • this is stupid!

  • This is NOT Kung fu !!

    THis is WING TSUN.

  • @cCcBoZKuRt31 wing chun is a form of kung fu

  • bruce lee can very good fighting.

    why is he dead??!!!

I know why he is dead but i want that he is still alive!!

  • Ah yes... yet another reason why I hate crackas.

  • Good old Racist America that stopped him from playing the part! I hope America has come forward since those days! At least they have a Mixed Race President now!

  • Yes grasshopper, but what side of color did they vote for? The white side or the black side. Snatch the racism out my hand and it will be time for you to go!!!!!

  • Neither, I am from the UK & don't vote in Americana Elections. And even if I did I would vote for both the black & the White side as I am Mixed Race also! It makes no differece to the Zebra so why should it make a difference to me or anybody else for that matter? Mixed Race is the Future. I am Heterozygous & proud of it.

  • ;-)

  • Yes, but rather then run with hate think. Back then David played a half chinese person. Today Obama is doing the same. Success will come. I'm just responding to your America the racist comment. I have still a lot of faith that we have moved ahead and will continue. It would appear you might not be as lucky. To quick to lash out.

  • seraeph: Agreed. David Carradine was a wonderful actor (and was great as Kwai Chang Cain), but it WAS Bruce Lee's concept, and wouldn't it have been great to see him in the part. As for the martial arts facet of the show- With all due respect to Mr Carradine, he would have lasted about five seconds with The Master...

  • Tainoarawak, even Chuck Norris admits himself is no match for Bruce Lee. Are you qualified to say flaming words that are all opposite? You said Bruce mLee couldn't fight, I think you know nothing about him. I wonder if you know that how many kinds of martial art he had learnt. I won't ask you for further knowledge as I know you don't know anything. Keep your own thinking, bastard.

  • unfortunatly a lot of tainoarawaks comments later cant be read, but if you scroll back a little,i think the point he was making is that lee should have starred in kung fu not carradine, maybe you shoud read fernadesfrans comment on carradine making a better shaolin monk than lee, that seems pretty silly to me.

  • Just let tainoarawak keeps barking, then he will finally discover that no one is responding him. His words can't convinvce anyone and he is just saying trash and twaddle. No one is agreeing with him, but he still enjoys it, that's fine for this kind of loser.

  • The world was robbed of the true Kung-Fu Master, Bruce Lee. Fuck that white-bald pervert-David Carradine faggot. Bruce was robbed bc he was Chinese. carradine is a fruad, plain and simple. Bruce was a a better actor and martial artist in his little finger than david was in his whole life any day. TRUTH HURTS LOW-LIFE ANIMALS! FUCK YOU!

  • finally

  • Kids would disagree, but it is impossible to decipher what the show would be if Bruce Lee starred as Caine.

Personally, I feel despite his eastern looks, Bruce Lee would not have fit in as a Shaolin monk. There is just so much antagonism in his looks. On the other hand David C, with his western looks, brings more realism to this role. There is this peacefulness about him which exactly stands for the philosophy portrayed there in. This show is more about Buddhist philosophy than Kung Fu skills.

  • You're a fucking ignorant, biased idiot.

  • tainoarawak, does it make sense to leave abusive comments? :-))

  • When people deserve it for being ignorant, biased, stupid fucking sheep, YES. Carradine was a SHIT actor, a SHIT (fake, non-existent) martial artist, & shitty person in real life. 'Nuff said! If the truth is abuse, it is only because it is deserved. The fault is in the recipient of the truth, not the giver---A dumbass, called a dumbass, and an asshole called an asshole is not abuse. Fuck your PC BULLSHIT! We need ppl who can still tell it like it is! If you ain't got the nuts GTF out of the way.

  • Let me answer your constructive comment objectively.

1 Carradine's acting skills are a subjective matter. If you read my comment, you'll see that this is just my opinion and why. You may not agree, but that is just your opinion and I fully respect it.

2 Other half of the comment reflects that something is bothering you. Maybe if you realize that showering abuses on someone you don't know doesn't benefit you in any way, it would help you zero in on what's bothering you at this moment.

    Peace. :-)

  • Let me answer your constructive comment objectively. 1-NO. There is a craft to acting and some objective way of measuring it, at least to some reasonable extent. There IS such a thing as bad acting, and Carradine personified it. He unfairly beat out Bruce Lee for the role who was by far the better actor, and a real life martial artist, just bc he was white, and TV wasn't "ready for a Chinese lead." Carradine knew this was racially based, and still took the role, acting as if he had earned it...

  • He couldn't act, or fight--clumsy, awkward bastard that he was & he was a fucking incestuous perverted drug user w no class, & no style, who co-opted other ppls cultures & used Eastern philosophy which he knew shit-all about to sell tapes for money...

  • He was SHIT all around, and that's a fact. Thus, your opinion SUCKS, period.

    2. Spare me your penny-Freud analysis, punk. All my comment reflects, is that I'm not a puss like you--I tell it like it is, no apologies. Now gently pull out your tampon and at least try to take it like a man. Butt-hurt bitch.

  • I'm sorry that my comment was totally wrong! Since you are a multiple Oscar winning superstar who displays world-renowned judgment on critiquing acting capabilities, and unusual guts to post honest comments on YouTube, you surely are authorized by all mankind to preach your personal opinion as the gospel truth.

Now, please excuse me Your Highness while I step aside and have a hearty laugh at your expense...LOL. You need help dude. As if screaming abuses on the internet will help you...LOL

  • Dude, isn't it obvious enough who among us both is more hurt?!!...mwhahahaha :-P enjoy...

  • Imagine tainoarawak being the script-writer for Kung Fu....

    LOL!!! copy-pasting every insult he's read on a message board....enough said.... :-))

  • im really glad that this comment is just a "personal" view and not a generalised one,may i point out that "kung fu" was bruce lees concept that was "stolen" from him,it seems you forget this fact.and to say lee wouldnt fit in as a shaolin monk had me laughing my ass off, thanks for that.though i will not knock david carradine(r.i.p)a fine actor, will be missed.

  • The whole appeal of this series (and perhaps the main idea ) was that it was about a Western guy that was trained in Eastern martial arts and philosophy! Had Bruce Lee been the main character then the appeal would not have been there! It would be like having Al Pachino playing the part of an alter boy or something!

  • Sometimes I point my finger up my butt then I sniff it

  • I dont buy the premise that Bruce Lee was "too Asian" for the Kung Fu TV show.........didnt Capt. Kirk kiss a black woman on "Star Trek" just a few yrs. before Kung Fu debuted?

I think Carradine got the role mainly because Bruce had a foreign accent.......

  • Bruce was tooo philospohical he would have taken the whole show over and everybody would have been outshined due to Bruce'e philosophical beliefs and styles

  • The worse part is that America wanted a chinese show but he was just too chinese (born in America) amazing how fickle Americans are...they want everything bastardized. Just think of all the things they have altered...like tacos....this is an american thing....definately not mexican!

  • Methinks belizeangial1970 is talking out of his/her own ass, as Bruce Lee WAS full blooded Chinese (NOT born in America). And as for tacos, what the hell? How are tacos NOT originally a Mexican dish? Stop smoking crack.

  • Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco!

  • Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco, California USA in 1940. His family moved back to Hong Kong a short time later. He was actually of three citizenships as Hong Kong was under British rules- so that makes him American by birth, British and Chinese. His mother was half Chinese and half German, making Bruce a quarter German. He retained his American citizenship and even graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle.

  • Damn how do you know all that?! Sweet.

  • Bruce Lee is NOT full Blooded Chinese, his mom was half Chinese & German, pops was full Chinese.Watch his Documentary & he was born in San Fransico, but raised in China.

  • SO??

    And your point is???

Who care what he is. He was good at what he did.

  • Point is DUMB ASS don't speak on SHIT YOU DON'T KNOW, FUCKIN' MORON!!

  • Thank you! I actually did not know all that about him. Raised in China may have made me believe he was born there, I didn't watch/read anything on him for many years since I first researched him.

  • Hollywood broke Bruce down when they stole this idea from him, His whole mindset was destroyed, thank god he went back to Hong Kong. But they still havent given Bruce the credit he deserves its always chuck Norris this Chuck Norris that, come on now Bruce has and ways will have more respect than him

  • Yea but its just plain fun to use Chuck Norris in jokes. A true American icon. Whether he is taken seriously or not.

But yes Bruce Lee deserves for more recognition than my generation is giving him.

  • @HaiTienGameofDeath73 i know thats right

  • @HaiTienGameofDeath73 you are another Idiot! many in Hollywood were mad too.

& Bruces Fans & Friends have always Talked GOOD about him! especially chuck!

many from Holly wood Loved Bruce. i Hear Bruce lee alot, chuck Norisses name i dont hear much.

he did do several things in the 80's But people like you Always compare them! shut the fuck up!

  • @MetalHeart8787 i dont think that @HaiTienGameofDeath73 was comparing them I think he was saying there is no comparison BRUCE LEE WILL ALWAYS BE CROWNED THE UNDISPUTED KING OF KUNG FU

  • At the time Kung-Fu was made, the FCC had a rule that they could only have 2 min. of fighting each episode. The Network demanded that Cain have two fights per episode. This information comes from David Carradine on the season two box set. Do you think Bruce Lee would have been happy with that little fighting? I Don't. Bruce wanted to be a big star, and such a T.V. show would not have done that for him. I love Kung-Fu just the way it was made.

  • Special guest star...

    JACKIE CHAN!!!

  • yeah as bruce lees victim of strikes ^^

  • riiiiight with a guy who isnt Chinese fromChina that barely knew any MA

  • Watcht e episode of Longstreet and get back to me on that one

  • You've got some damn good come backs! I agree with you totally. Bruce could have given them anything they wanted. Hell, he appeared in Chinese opera's since he was a kid, so dramatic or romantic roles would be a snap for him. He was also a champion dancer, so graceful and elegant fighting scenes would be easy for him AND he was/is one of the very best martial artists ever filmed. How could Kung Fu have lost?

  • Since you obviously know nothing about Bruce Lee and his philosophy, I'll spare you the details. In short, Bruce Lee would have made this one of the best Martial Arts shows made.

  • It WAS one of the best MA shows, it just would have been different (and I think even better) if Bruce hadn't been screwed out of it.

    Thats just my opinion.

  • They stole thd kung fu idea of Bruce

  • Bruce Lee used to be a pretty boy, until he got serious with martial art then he didn't want that pretty boy image anymore.

  • Just becuase we see bruce lee in all these intense and fighting roles only doens't mean he can't act. He's played many roles in his earlier days and those roles aren't about martial art or intense fighting. So I think he would have done an even better job the "Kung Fu" series.

  • the irony, of course, is that the show Kung Fu was not about Kung Fu. i love Bruce Lee, but he was not a good choice for the contemplative nature of the show, its focus on the Tao.

  • I thought so too, until I saw his performance on a tv series called Longstreet where he played a more less violent Caine like character and played it well, Bruce started acting since he was a kid.

  • This makes perfect sense! Bruce was 1st a dancer/actor and perhaps best as a martial artist! Your so right, Longstreet showcased Bruce on several levels. Action, drama, light comedy, philosophy, etc. Let's tell the truth! Taoism and philosophy aside, we ALL couldn't wait until Kwai Chang Caine opened up that can of Foot-Whooping on the overly deserving. It was the action, that gave the Tao a stage to play on. Yin and Yang, baby!

  • If Bruce Lee did kung fu(which was his idea)it would have been more dynamic and fast paced! But the producers of that day was not looking for that. They where doing a tv series not a movie which is were Bruce Lee was second to none. Just like the Hulk tv show...it was not action packed but focus on the nature of man, and day to day life.

  • Agreed...the show would of sucked with bruce lee as the lead role. He does deserve credit for the idea however.

  • I couldn't disagree more! Bruce had been in 20+ films by age 18 & he played various TV roles by 1971! I've seen him in old interviews, speaking on philosophy & firmly believe that he could have been brilliant in Kung Fu! Hollywood was just afraid of bankrolling an Asian face. They simply couldn't see past Bruce being Asian.

Imagine the horror - an Asian actor, (w/acting & martial arts ability) playing a 1/2 Asian charactor on a show called Kung Fu, pitched to producers by said Asian actor?

  • have you ever watched the kung fu series with david carradine? its astonishing in how good it was. So much so that I can hardly imagine the show in any other light. See past the racism man. you cant right a past wrong.

  • Have I ever watched Kung Fu...you're not serious! Most people get locked into "the way things are", so much until they (as you put it) "can hardly imagine the show(or anything else) in any other light." It's called Myopia -in the 3rd sense! I don't know your race and don't need to, but I'll wager good U.S. currency that you're "not of color" shall we say? You see, in my experience it's usually those who DO NOT experience racism, that have such a need to pursuade those who do, to "see past it!"

  • r.i.p. David Carradine you will always be remembered.

  • I'm sorry. David Carradine was born to this role, he's perfect. Kwang Chain Kaine was a Shaolin monk. Above all, he was a peacemaker (of course he could lick you as well). Bruce Lee was born to action, but not to be a Shaolin monk. Period.

  • Imp is right. The great Bruce Lee would have been made to fight every scene;this is not what made the show great;it was the writing, the philosophy, the first rate acting and the wait for the kickass.

  • Bruce Lee could play a peaceful character, I thought he couldn't until I've seen appear on a TV show called Longstreet. Lee has been acting since childhood.

  • That was very cool! The real kung fu.

  • very nice editing

how can you say Carradine was a better actor in such a definite way? you have more range and work from Carradine to look at nd not enough of Bruce's work because of his early death, so to compare the two would be unfair, they both are and were good at what they did/do

  • That is true, it is just my opinion that Carradine was a better actor at the time, but there was a lot of examples of Bruces acting in The Green Hornet in order to make a comparison and form an opinion. As kids we laughed whenever anyone called Carradine China man but we never doubted that a half Chinese half American could be played by an American. In retrospect I think we were right.

  • Times change. The ones we watched the TV Program Kung Fu will never forget David Carradine's work, because we enjoyed it then. Bruce Lee was different, he is a leyend. Perhaps if the TV series would have been produced these days, the situation could have been completely upside down, and Bruce Lee would be the main character.

  • Bruce Lee's very martial arts greatness would always overwhelm the story;how many bad Kung Fu movies are there? The answer is 99% of them.Carradine actually sucked at martial arts, but that actually was better for the show.

  • Those who don't know, simply watch the Enter the dragon DVD the extra's clearly state that Euro's were not ready to have an Asian as a staring roll in America. So its fact.

  • To me, this simply doesn't compute. Your creation is pure fantasy. As someone with deep experience of Lees and Carradines work all I will say is that you cannot turn water in to fire, and vice versa....

  • Carradine is a great actor...and Bruce Lee the obvious master.

This same thing happened to Cheech and Chong, Chico and the Man, and to Richard Pryor, Blazing Saddles. And probably many others. The 70's were a radical time and great people brought a message many weren't ready for. ...loved them all.

  • we will never forget the one who entroduced kung fu to america along with mixed martial arts.

  • Every time this subject turns up i hear cries of 'racism'. The producers are said to be racist for not casting Bruce, the entire western world are said to be racist for not being ready to accept a chanaman in a leading role.

The truth is i have never met a fellow white westerner who dislikes the Chinese, the only real racism i have heard about the Chinese has come from the Japenese. And everyone loves Bruce Lee so exackly how do these anti Carradine racist accusers define racism?

  • David Carradine is a much better actor and also as any good actor he did what was asked of him. Bruce Lee was an expert in Chinese philosophy including the Taoism. There is no way that Bruce Lee would agree to preach a phoney philosophy written by American writers. Unfortuntly the little Taoism that i have read would never work with a western audience, it is far too deep, but the excellent writers made up philosophy worked really well anmd was proberly the reason behind the series success.

  • the philosophy is definitely not made up. its pulled from taoist and buddhist teachings.

  • Carradine is a better actor.

  • The director was already promoise Lee that he will be the one who played the role, but then Lee was Chinese, so they chaneged their mind and Lee knew that the racist was too strong that he had to go back to hong kong, also u can see the strong sense of racist in his movies.

  • It would have been cool, we would have more to remember from his career.

  • Damn good editing.

  • It was said that producers deemed Lee too controversial a star in the wake of the Vietnam War, so American David Carradine was chosen instead.

I've oft wondered this myself, very nicely edited

  • good editing
