itv today is a catastropic, disgraceful dismantling of the special regional identities and makes for bland and sad viewing, which I don't view anymore!
I don't live in the Yorkshire region, but just out of interest, at which point did they use the ident with the purple spinning Chevron's rather than the hearts, or did they use them both at the same time?
They both got used for a time, in a fantastic bit of messy branding. The Yorkshire set was introduced in use full time before they knew the generic ITV set were coming, hence why such a huge number were produced. Once the ITV hearts came along, the purple Yorkshire ones continued to be shown before regional programming only (up until 2002).
Well, least Yorkshire acknowledged their past announcing team with a rather touching announcement... although, as you stated it sounded like it went out pretty late - Bob Preedy mentions that the London team would take over later "this morning". So, I suppose not as many people would've seen it anyway.
20 past midnight if I recall correctly, as it was at the end of the YTV live shift. Annoyingly so as it was scheduled for 12.15, and they were running late, or I'd have had a recording of the almost identical Tyne Tees announcement he played out (my timer recording cut out too early :P)
@MrChrisking1974 Hear hear! I've heard some ITV1 continuity - too much of the 'alright, mate'-style voiceovers, none of the professionism of before. STV across Scotland is largely with the same, with the exception I feel of long servicing Maggie Lavender.
All the stations beginning with T went on 31st Dec 1992- Thames, TV-AM, TVS and TSW, even Oracle went that day too. That was really the beginning of the end. I think YTV studios are alot nicer than that place where Granada are anyway, big old building! Goodbye to Border TV too. ITV might as well just broadcast to all the "regions" from one building......oh they already are!
And they wonder why itv audience share is collapsing. No diversity of programming and ideas, all the modern itv shows have the same feel to them, ie crap.
ITV, are a disgrace!!why have rubbish channels like itv 2, 3,&4. and get rid of itv yorkshire.....it makes me want to stop watching ITV for ever....Leeds studio's were the first purpose built colour studio's in Europe...they should be allowed to continue and grow, not be closed down and forgotten about.....The Leeds studio's should stay in full production, they used to be the main producers of quality television....london, and manchester are obviously jelous of Leeds out put,..RIP YTV
Will not happen sadly, sandyx74. Out of the 600 job cuts announced recently, 150 are at the former YTV studios in Leeds! Far fewer ITV progs will be made in Leeds/Yorkshire.
Even Countdown will be moving across the Pennines to manchester!
This should never have happened as i think that is one of the reasons why itv could go bust in the near future. HAND BACK THE REGIONAL LICENCES AND BRING BACK REGIONAL ITV!!!!!
What a sad way to go. Since 1968, classic voices have been heard from Leeds, only to be centralised, just like that. Remember when some regions actually had "personalities" who presented programmes. When you look at the USA where local newscasters are celebrities in their own right - with talent intros, you wonder what has happened to British LOCAL broadcasting.
It's a shame ITV has lost its regional identities. It's all about money - just about everything in this bloody country has been sacrificed for the sake of making money, and we are all much the poorer for it.
28/10/02 was the day when every English station owned by Granada&Carlton came from London. Even before then, it had been rationalised down further; Meridian produced continuity for HTV West and Anglia as well as themselves, whilst Yorkshire Television also provided continuity for Tyne Tees, Border and Granada
Only Carlton, LWT, Westcountry and Central had their own continuity until the last day

ITV today makes me puke!

I miss the days just when it was like 'Now on YTV its Calendar' before being replaced with 'And now for the news where you are'
Just a little thing like that is evident of the dull, comodotised, corporate ran society we live in today...

@KRPTV It was around 2003 when Yorkshire had those purple spinning chevrons.

Curious, did Granada do anything similiar to this? Or were they and Carlton just plain not bothered?

Ah, yes - the YTV/Tyne Tees sharing scheme. I take it the announcement would've been the same, bar the station name and the year.

@10pinbowling The purpose for ITV1 to have all those channels is so that people don't get bored for having to watch only 5 channels on their TV.
What's the point of having only 5 channels when u could get a lot more nowadays?
I think ITV1 have done a good job creating these channels that u've mentioned 10pinbowling.
U're just jealous that Granada have moved their continuity to London from 28th October 2002 and I didn't even know about it.

Thank you for posting it. I thought we still did our own continuity announcements. Apparantly not?

YTV hasn't had exclusive continuity since 1992!

HTV Wales since lost its own to London aswell
