Having the best dress uniform has nothing to do with it, the Marine makes the uniform, the uniform doesn't make the Marine. Unlike the Army, even if you join the Marines for a P.O.G. M.O.S., you will be trained to fight, every Marine is a rifleman. When it comes down to it, Marines make better soldiers, plain and simple.

should 13 weeks training sound special? The standard swedish soldiers tranining is 13 weeks, and then no spciality is applied, so 13 weeks standard for what ever your going too be trained for next. after 13 weeks your training too become and enginer, sniper and so on BEGINS.

My Marine Corps has proven itself time and time again. All this talk of whos best, its just that. Its talk. @funkyfenman the 13 weeks is the basic, After the basic you go onto additional training that lasts every where from 3 more months to 6 months. The 13 weeks isnt easy but its not the only training. They just count the 13 because everyone has to do the initial 13 weeks. My first year was about 9 months of training before I even got to a unit.

@JullianChua The USMC are not really a special force... They are more like an indipendant Army with Air, Infantry and Armour. A force such as the British Marines would be classed as a special force. And another point, in the video they say that 14 weeks of intense training? If you ask me, 14 weeks is not enough. Basic British soldiers do 24 weeks, and that is just as hard, if not harder. The USMC are good, but not that good compared to british soldiers.

@black39gold There are roughly as many MARSOC and Recon Marines as there are Royal Marines. A couple thousand guys with only 32 weeks is not a special force. It took over 2 years of training for me to get where I am. Granted, your average Royal Marine commando is a better warrior than your average Marine (who is most likely in supply, or a desk job), but they lack the solid experience of your average rifleman. When I saw Royal Marines in Iraq, some cried in combat. Not impressive.
@SSgt24thMEU Sorry by 'special force' i meant to say specialist force - there role is more about hard hitting, fast, seabourne assaults against all the odds - eg. operation chariot and the falklands war. And crying in combat could happen to anyone at any point - you could be in countless contacts, do countless tours and still one day you could break down compleatly in a contact. So you can't really say its not impressive. And the SBS would whop recon's arse, just had to add that in :L

@black39gold first of all, you heard wrong, it's 13 weeks, Second, they have AT LEAST 8 more strenuous weeks of training after the Boot Camp. Third, Marines are always almost training. They don't just sit around all day, they trai all the time. Fourth, we're allies. Now I ain't saying we're better, but most people don't relize that Boot Camp ain't it. Also, we've got a thing called a MEU/SOC, which has 13 weeks Boot Camp, 8 weks of infantry, then a 26 week indocternation course.

I am no means an expert, but the British Royal marines were established in 1664, where as the USMC was established over a century later in 1775.
Also, 'beat the shit' is not a phrase i would use to describe the Americans 'defeat' of the British as the Americans had large amounts of help from the French seeking revenge for their defeat during the 7 years war. Britian was involved in various other conlicts across the world so decided to withdraw.

@2shy The Marines have the least amount of soldiers out of any branch yet they carry the greatest significance than any other Military branch in the U.S.. Having the best dress uniform has nothing to do with it, the Marine makes the uniform, the uniform doesn't make the Marine. Unlike the Army, even if you join the Marines for a P.O.G. M.O.S., you will be trained to fight, every Marine is a rifleman. When it comes down to it, Marines make better soldiers, plain and simple.

should 13 weeks training sound special? The standard swedish soldiers tranining is 13 weeks, and then no spciality is applied, so 13 weeks standard for what ever your going too be trained for next. after 13 weeks your training too become and enginer, sniper and so on BEGINS.

@funkyfenman the 13 weeks is the basic, After the basic you go onto additional training that lasts every where from 3 more months to 6 months. The 13 weeks isnt easy but its not the only training. They just count the 13 because everyone has to do the initial 13 weeks. My first year was about 9 months of training before I even got to a unit.

@funkyfenman Marines go through 3 separate training periods, Boot camp-13 weeks Marine Combat Training-4 weeks and then MOS school, depending on their job the length varies, but for infantry it lasts about 10 weeks overall they get a lot more training than just Boot camp

@JullianChua The USMC are not really a special force... They are more like an indipendant Army with Air, Infantry and Armour. A force such as the British Marines would be classed as a special force. And another point, in the video they say that 14 weeks of intense training? If you ask me, 14 weeks is not enough. Basic British soldiers do 24 weeks, and that is just as hard, if not harder. The USMC are good, but not that good compared to british soldiers.

@black39gold There are roughly as many MARSOC and Recon Marines as there are Royal Marines. A couple thousand guys with only 32 weeks is not a special force. It took over 2 years of training for me to get where I am. Granted, your average Royal Marine commando is a better warrior than your average Marine (who is most likely in supply, or a desk job), but they lack the solid experience of your average rifleman. When I saw Royal Marines in Iraq, some cried in combat. Not impressive.

And crying in combat could happen to anyone at any point - you could be in countless contacts, do countless tours and still one day you could break down compleatly in a contact. So you can't really say its not impressive. And the SBS would whop recon's arse, just had to add that in :L

@black39gold first of all, you heard wrong, it's 13 weeks, Second, they have AT LEAST 8 more strenuous weeks of training after the Boot Camp. Third, Marines are always almost training. They don't just sit around all day, they trai all the time. Fourth, we're allies. Now I ain't saying we're better, but most people don't relize that Boot Camp ain't it. Also, we've got a thing called a MEU/SOC, which has 13 weeks Boot Camp, 8 weks of infantry, then a 26 week indocternation course.

I am no means an expert, but the British Royal marines were established in 1664, where as the USMC was established over a century later in 1775.
Also, 'beat the shit' is not a phrase i would use to describe the Americans 'defeat' of the British as the Americans had large amounts of help from the French seeking revenge for their defeat during the 7 years war. Britian was involved in various other conlicts across the world so decided to withdraw.

I'm sure that your precious royal marines have a boot camp or basic training that is around the same length as ours. The "commando" training is secondary.
