@posuerbuster WHAT? How Can you possibly say that about any form of the Clash if Mick Jones and Topper aren't in it? You at least need Mick Jones on lead guitar to make it a good Clash line-up, that's the only reason the 1982-1983 wasn't terrible was because it was the original but with Pete Howard.
@thewhochilipepperU22 Mick and topper were good songwriters, but the Clash II were a lot tighter live band, and they could've made a decent record if their manager hadn't taken complete control of the band. Listen to any bootleg from the "Sandinista" tours and you will hear Topper's and Mick's drugged terrible playing. Clash II were good musicians, and I am sure that Mr. Howard was the most technically adept drummer the band had.
I have to agree with Clash78. The Clash are the best band ever, but this, although entertaining pales into comparison with the 'Mk1' vesrion, say on Mick's last gig. I do, however, think Pete Howard is a great drummer, no Topper, but he does the business. I see 'Mk2' as more as hijacked Strummer solo vehicle. They tried. They failed. But Strummer is always great.
It's funny that Strummer kicked Jones out of the band to get back to "stripped down punk rock" and then do the funk workout "The Magnificent 7" in their live set. Stupid.
Just because Joe wanted to revisit earlier punk styles dosen't mean he suddenly narrowed his tastes to a cliched punk taste, nor does it reflect on the quality and his oppinion of the songs he wrote beforehand, so why wouldn't he want to play them?
Totally agree with Joshdone, btw this is one of THE BEST version of this song. Slower than usual and what an AWESOME DRUM PLAY!!! and I'm a Topper fan...the work P.H does around 5:00 reminds me some of Trouble Funk tracks on theirs Live Album!!!Respect....
the clash II never made any proper videos but,i do remeber people with cameras at the shows i went to.video footage is out there its like looking for buried treasure.vince white just wrote a book about that time called "out of control the last days of the clash"cheers.m
finally something on vid from clash 2 i saw them 6 times in 1984 and oh yes it was something else"nobody did it better"not saying 1982 was not bad either what a band!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i had a great copy of this tape years ago (audio) kosmo came onstage and stopped the show because people were filming , could this be the culprit ? i loved watching this line up live , more please
@JagzKnahaR I've got the whole show on video, if i got more time i will put in on you tube, cheers

Don't get me wrong I adore the clash, especially the true line up. But no one can honestly say this isn't good. This version of MAG7 is kickass.
