I am blessed to still have my father who served in the Pacific during WWII he and an Officer friend are left from all of his friends, my father will be 92 in Feb his friend is 90, I thought we lost him back in Sept, but he made it and when I had him home with me he said "It's time to tell you son my story of my time so long ago in world war two". I wonder how many are still left that can tell us what they went through. What an awesome group of men that fought and died for us. Love You Dad.

When I hear this song, all I can think of is the honors I've been able to have. I've shaken hands with both Medal of Honor recipients and Tuskegee Airmen. Heroes. All, the most modest souls I've ever met. I put on a uniform like they did, but I will never be able to fill their boots.

@TheScottywotty my grandfather too served as a pilot. nothing made him sadder than knowing he bombed so many innocent people in the line of his duty piloting bombers over Berlin.He rarely spoke of what he was asked to do, and always hated what he did and saw. The only pride he took was in protecting his fellow soldiers, and bringing them home again.Feel for all soldiers, as war will corrupt the best of souls in some way, or entirely, simply because of war's horrific nature! If you ever watch the movie THE LONGEST DAY..they show the British raid taking the Pegasus bridge...The actor RICHARD TODD played the commander of the raid in the movie ..he was actually an officer on the raid in real life..so your grand dad probably knew him..they have a museum and a replica of one of the gliders at the site now..you should visit it..and you can read detailed accounts on the raid on a lot of sites online

The VA hospitals in the U.S. that housed thee guys were as forgotten as the men they housed. These guys that landed at Anzio and Iwo deserved better. It must never happen again.

being Grandson to a WWII Veteran, i must say i feel somewhat sorry to all who lived through that era. My Grandfather, was a Canadian man who enlisted Xmas Eve, 1939. rough, eh? and also, his Granfather was GERMAN, so i hope the rest of you can imagine what he and I feel. Imagine that, possible killing your own country men, only whom your're related 2 generations before. He was promoted to Sgt at the war's end, and turned down the offer to be an officer. R I P to all WWII vets, of any country.

Also the US/British/Canadian role was to deny the Soviets the rest of Western Europe. A Soviet controlled Europe might had been even worse than a Nazi controlled Europe.

All they have to do is act/sing at the most and get their pictures taken. I lost my Grandfather in 2007, he was a WW2 combat veteran, honorably discharged at the rank of M/Sergeant in 1946. Met a girl he had a thing with while his division was occupying Japan. He was the most mild mannered marine you could of ever met. Not a day goes by that I do not think of him. Thank you to all Vets, present and past.

@berserker276 The British and Canadians do not get the recognition they deserve, especially for WW2. The Brits landed company A on Omaha beach, on schedule even with the awful weather. In the end working together was what won the war and I hope both countries stay all our allies for a long time, may god rest the souls of those who were lost.

@berserker276 No! My Grandfather knew the man who was dating my Grandmother at the time.I forget his name, but he was doing a combat mission off siapan when he took a hit and went down. I would not exist if he had not died that day. My grandfather Master Sergeant Jack Linnehan survived the war and he brought home an Arisaka type 99. He also unfortunately witnessed the so called black shadowns during the occupation. Something that haunted him all his life, I miss him so much.

Thank you for posting this. Thank you to my Dad and uncles that served in World War II on the beaches of Normandy and in the Pacific. They bore the horrors of war for freedom. I also salute their wives who watched them walk into harms way and knew they may not return. Thank you to one of the greatest generations to walk the earth. Seems like it's our turn to rise up and be as great or greater in the face of terrorists and terrorism.
Today ten years ago I was four, I still remember that day, i still cry and remember about the many deaths when I watch/listen to this video. I knew no that died that day but it I feel the pain.

If Japan didn't attacked America ( but they had to do so because the oil route was taken by the Americans) and if Hitler first cleaned the Western Front ( France, Great- Britain) then they should have won the war global. (Full launch on the Russians would be a total disaster. But ofc the Russians were a strong army and so they won the war.

I know a number of British people and they are all quite friendly. And Canada and the UK did so much to help the war, they didn't carry it on their backs, but they helped a lot to be sure. Canada actually did a very good job fighting and supplying the war effort, same with the UK. I think all the Allied (and Axis) countries fought brilliantly!

When I hear this song, all I can think of is the honors I've been able to have. I've shaken hands with both Medal of Honor recipients and Tuskegee Airmen. Heroes. All, the most modest souls I've ever met. I put on a uniform like they did, but I will never be able to fill their boots.

@TheScottywotty my grandfather too served as a pilot. nothing made him sadder than knowing he bombed so many innocent people in the line of his duty piloting bombers over Berlin.He rarely spoke of what he was asked to do, and always hated what he did and saw. The only pride he took was in protecting his fellow soldiers, and bringing them home again.Feel for all soldiers, as war will corrupt the best of souls in some way, or entirely, simply because of war's horrific nature! If you ever watch the movie THE LONGEST DAY..they show the British raid taking the Pegasus bridge...The actor RICHARD TODD played the commander of the raid in the movie ..he was actually an officer on the raid in real life..so your grand dad probably knew him..they have a museum and a replica of one of the gliders at the site now..you should visit it..and you can read detailed accounts on the raid on a lot of sites online

Few today know that those who could not recover from their wounds received very substandard care in the decades after the war. The VA hospitals in the U.S. that housed thee guys were as forgotten as the men they housed. These guys that landed at Anzio and Iwo deserved better. It must never happen again.

being Grandson to a WWII Veteran, i must say i feel somewhat sorry to all who lived through that era. My Grandfather, was a Canadian man who enlisted Xmas Eve, 1939. rough, eh? and also, his Granfather was GERMAN, so i hope the rest of you can imagine what he and I feel. Imagine that, possible killing your own country men, only whom your're related 2 generations before. He was promoted to Sgt at the war's end, and turned down the offer to be an officer. R I P to all WWII vets, of any country.

All they have to do is act/sing at the most and get their pictures taken. I lost my Grandfather in 2007, he was a WW2 combat veteran, honorably discharged at the rank of M/Sergeant in 1946. Met a girl he had a thing with while his division was occupying Japan. He was the most mild mannered marine you could of ever met. Not a day goes by that I do not think of him. Thank you to all Vets, present and past.

@berserker276 The British and Canadians do not get the recognition they deserve, especially for WW2. The Brits landed company A on Omaha beach, on schedule even with the awful weather. In the end working together was what won the war and I hope both countries stay all our allies for a long time, may god rest the souls of those who were lost.

Odd thing though, my Grandmother was dating an Army pilot who was serving in the pacific and knew my Grandfather. He was shot down over Saipan and they put his head on a pike and then she met my grandpa. I almost might of not existed! rest easy to all who were lost, you deserve it boys.

@berserker276 No! My Grandfather knew the man who was dating my Grandmother at the time.I forget his name, but he was doing a combat mission off siapan when he took a hit and went down. I would not exist if he had not died that day. My grandfather Master Sergeant Jack Linnehan survived the war and he brought home an Arisaka type 99. He also unfortunately witnessed the so called black shadowns during the occupation. Something that haunted him all his life, I miss him so much.

I know a number of British people and they are all quite friendly. And Canada and the UK did so much to help the war, they didn't carry it on their backs, but they helped a lot to be sure. Canada actually did a very good job fighting and supplying the war effort, same with the UK. I think all the Allied (and Axis) countries fought brilliantly!

@cpj93070 Well we invented, and by this I mean by ourselves with no outside influence at all; Badminton, Bobsleigh, Bowls, Boxing Cricket, Croquet, Curling, Darts, Fives, and my personal favorite, GOLF! That is quite an impressive number, but as much as I would like to say we invented a lot more, Ancient Greece and China invented most modern sports or had a very similar version long before us. Like football. And Japan somehow got a bigger empire, but it was mostly water so you may not count it!

@cpj93070 Land wise? YES I DO! It was a hell of a thing to maintain all of that territory for so many years. But what was going on within it was another matter. It didn't help to have all that land in the long run, obviously, since we aren't running the show anymore. But yes. What I am getting at here is the US is a good place full of good people, often not exemplified by some dolt Americans commenting on videos.
