  • god i love watching videos with the youtube subtitles :D

    1:44

"well how to navigate said other functions and programs in this bus stop in Baghdad"

    rofl

  • i am actually using splashtop on my lenovo tablet/netboot. i timed it from pushing the on buttom to being able to use splashtop. 12 seconds. freakin love this thing

  • @longlive289s typed that wrong......more around the 3-5 second time. the first times using it i had it set to load up all my music (3-4gb)

  • This guy sounds a bit like George Takei...

  • Splashtop is not the only Instant On OS there are also others that are developed by Dell and Phoenix and others like Instant Vision

  • Loads faster then the PS3!

  • What confuses me about this video is that a) I don't wait three minutes for my iMac to start, I wait about twenty seconds, and b) Why does the demonstrator sound so odd? Kind of camp, but not full-blown bar-gay. He puts emphasis on really strange syllables. PLease don't mistake this for heckling - its genuine confusion at why they used THIS guy to advertise a potentially exciting technology.

  • now i know why they f*up dsdt tables and acpi specs so 'suspend to ram' never really worked neither fow wins or linux... still... let's see as much free software around as possible ;)

  • 3 minutes to start up that new Asus pc? Good promotion!

  • LOL!

No one is gonna buy something that needs 3 min to load out of the box!

I know after a while the boot time gets worse, but 3 min out of the box?

  • "Out of the box" you will be waiting longer then 3 mins because these ASUS products dont come with powersupplys, RAM, or processors.

Dell, HP, and apple all sell products that take 3 mins to load "out of the box".

  • i have an asus u-81, 320 gig hard drive with 4 gigs of ram and it is a dual boot vista and splashtop, i love my asus

  • So I could still search the net for help while I'm reinstalling the main OS or trying to fix a crash of the main OS. Cool!

  • If this supported DirectX 10, why would you even want a "main" OS?

    Death to main operating systems!

Harddrives should be for storing porn, not 10 gigs of Vista. Thats 10 gigs of anal rape that you can never get back! Think of what all those woman went through for you, bill gates didnt take a fat, angry, long one for you, so why give him 10 gigs?

  • @ilikehwy40

    brilliant :D

  • This is a brilliant idea, I really look forward to seeing this on motherboards as standard. And to the next time I need a new motherboard ^^

  • Asus needs to hire better voice actors.

  • Only needs GAIM, and its perfect!

  • The newer version has GAIM and GAIM's called Pidgin IM now.

  • what's the background music?

  • awesome!

    How much?

  • free!

  • It comes pre-installed on selected motherboards.

  • being a tech head, I wouldnt want that on all my PCs, however this is GREAT for like young kids (i have a 4 year old that can surf the net already) and pre-teens. Maybe even non-computer savy adults.

  • amazing... o fim do sistema operacional

  • I love this idea.

Think about this situation: Your Windows system (if you still use it ;-)) was infected by a virus. Your antivirus software doesn't work anymore. Then you can still google for advice because you don't need to start up the infected system.

  • Pay 3000$ for a computer you could buy for 2000$!

You got absolutely no useless garbage, like physical access to your hardware or right mouse button.

And splashtop is probably way faster than mac. It's too light to be slow.

If you want real speed, Linux and BSD are only acceptable choices. Only stripped down, mostly useless, tiny systems can be faster.

  • What do you think splashtop is? It is Linux.

  • because it is linux!!!

  • Since when can a Mac boot without a DISK like this Splashtop does?

  • This should be on the ASUS EEE.

  • I don't understand people who say an instant on device isn't useful. Don't you ever need just one thing from a laptop that's under your arm and "off" ? Who the hell wants to wait 1.5 to 3 minutes (depending on the application that needs to open as well) for an address, or text file snippet, or a google map ? Think about it. Laptops should be more versatile than work and setting up camp at a Starbucks.

  • How to setup your Internet connection?

It's ok to assume some default settings, but still there must be a way to configure.

  • This is Sol and I work at DeviceVM which makes Splashtop. There is a configuration menu in our system that allows you to do things like configure internet settings, screen resolution, etc. Thanks for your interest in Splashtop!

  • To be honest the voice over really annoys me. Nothing against the guy personally but he just does not have a "selling" voice.

The idea also seems mostly useless...

  • This is EXACTLY what most current computer users need...no complexity, just a pure, appliance like experience.

  • OlafMarzocchi,

that`s just to beautify the demo. Probably that motherboard is a Desktop one, since it`s a new product and Ibooks are "old" PowerPC ones (you won`t find new products on them).

  • This is nothing more than a embedded Linux. My Palm does that.

The problem with this is the limited functions the system will have, because every system needs to start library`s and other stuff, which can take from 20 to 1 min normally, depending on yhe computer and the OS.

What should really be done is to have big flash memories that could save all RAM data in order to have an almost instant wake (the pc would be asleep, but would need no batteries to be kept that way).

  • And even librarIES (without the stray apostrophe), Libra.

  • thanks for the correction

  • You're welcome. :)

  • That's an iBook. Can you install that software on an iBook???

  • HOME RUN!

  • Love the idea! Im sure it will be very appealing to the female buyers in particular, but I would like a few more splash programs to really make it pop. OpenOffice like others have said, a program that uses the MSN protocol (gaim for an instance), a media program like a well skinned version og VLC and a dedicated program for photo wieving photos combined with basic editing features.

Anyway it's a great start for the, in my opinion, best mainboard manufactorer out there - ASUS.

    Norway

  • I agree. If this instead of a very limited system was Ubuntu or something alike I would have bought this motherboard this second.

  • Love the idea! Im sure it will be very, very appealing to the female buyers in particular, but I would like a few more instant programs to really make it interesting. • like.. sure... whats the point to make a os that is in the moderboard. im sure it will be linux annyway. and when Flash memory get faster. thenit will be bether to boot linux from you flash.

  • i leave my computer on 24/7...

  • bingo!

  • I love the idea!

Btw, the narrator sounds kinda like comic book guy in the simpsons ^^

  • get your ears cleaned. he sounds nothing like him

  • that may be true, but he like totally has the gayest voice ever.

  • This is a great idea!

I hate waiting 3 minutes for Windows to start when I simply want to check out a website for example.

I agree OpenOffice should be added as well.

  • that was the gayest voice Ive ever heard

  • Awsome, this function will be a part of my next motherboard, well done Asus!

  • Awsome and agreed. Openoffice should be intergrated as well. If so, it would be perfect, suits my need like a hand in a glove! ;)

    Greetings,

    Per from Norway!

  • Awsome :) Microsoft must be shaking in their pants :P But what about Openoffice? It should be integrated in the splashtop as well...

    norway

  • Open office is to bloated. Abiword would be a better solution.
