I have realized that people who have much curve in their thumb can pick more easy by the wrist movement.my thumb is straight and i'm close to James Hetfield and jeff waters type of picking from elbow.
I just started circular picking and I find it to make me play very slowly. I do some pretty fast shredding with my entire wrist and arm but now that I'm trying circular picking, I feel like i'm at a disadvantage because when using the wrist, you can move it back and forth faster than just your 2 fingers because of the force the wrist gives. Do I need to strengthen my fingers or will I HAVE to use my wrist to play fast with this technique?
@Xemptuous If you can already play fast with your wrist I'd just stick with that. It's not wrong to play with your wrist, I know a lot of guys that do that. I just happen to like using the circular picking technique and actually do incorporate my wrist as well
Great video, you did a great job explaining this technique. Could you tell me where or how you discovered this technique? Could you also tell me who those two players are in japan that use this technique that are blazing fast?
@blessed7fold Search "Mikio Fujioka Trick Box Young Guitar solo lesson" on YouTube and skip to about 6 minutes in to see what he does. Tried posting the link but Youtube wont let me.
@Warevv0lf No, they don't push against each other other than enough to hold the pick. It's more of an equally applied pressure to the pick that keeps it in place and the motion is more of a synced movement of the thumb and index in a circular motion.

@MourningSons economy picking means to start each string with a downstroke when moving down and an upstroke when moving up

For the circular picking does your thumb push down on the index finger to make both fingers move up and down?
