Wow that was good. The Rascals are new to me, and it is interesting to see someone different. The songs were really cool and vibrant. I like the variety of musical inturments. The Drummer, Dino Dinelli, really caught my eye. I am just saying. IMHO he looks a lot like Paul McCartney.
oh un Paul McCartney rockerón XD en la batería XDD jaja... XD aunque estoy harta de escuchar que Paul murió y lo reemplazaron por Dino Danelli XDDD una cosa más! me encanta esta música
Dino,I always thought he was and still underrated as a drummer. When I first heard the Rascals back in the mid-late 80's right when I was getting into the drums....I heard this Dino and thought he was amazing, and still to this day I bring him up to younger drummers I meet telling them this guy is a awesome unknown drummer.
The most soulful white group of all time !! / they OPENLY loved soul music / and we loved their music / they took soul music to white audiences / PEACE & LOVE !!
Dino is so amazing, he is so gorgeous to look at and talented. I think he might just be my favorite drummer ever. He is so good, makes the drums come alive.
Why did Felix begin singing on the 4th. Measure rather than the 5th. Measure? Kinda broke up the rhythm and confused Gene, Dino and Eddie in the first 11 seconds but they went with it and all's well that ends well...Still the finest live performance of all time....
You know, after watching this again, I find it strange that DD didn't - or couldn't - make more of a statement in the mid / late 60's drumming community.
Ringo, Ginger Baker and Carmine Appice are on the short list of names that always seem to surface..but somehow Dino's is usually an afterthought.
I'd love to see more footage of him with The Rascals - this guy was SERIOUS!
Louie Belson who by the way is still playing with Doc Severinson to this day. They are getting up there in age and Doc's a little goofy now.
Note in this video that there seems to be some confusion about the vocals and backups during Mickeys Monkey but is still the best live tv performance of energy rock to this day. Absolutely my favorite !!!!
Eddie added a lot excitement, but only three guys are making an awful lot of music. I love Dino kicking the shit out of those drums. Gene is playing lead and rhythm. A terrific band!!
This band rocked so much with stuff like this and "Good Lovin'", that it's almost too bad that they got into that almost-ballad phase, e.g. "Groovin", and that MOR stuff like "People Got To Be Free". I understand those songs were commercially successful, huge hits really, but these guys were at their best with this dymanic, hard-rocking stuff.
For anyone who was wondering, Dino Danelli studied the drums under Louie Bellson, whose real Italian name is extremely long, with middle names and all.
Yes. And the famous Gene Krupa, who was considered one of the best drummers in this country was reported to have been "blown away", after having seen Dino do a drum solo.
This entire band had enough talent and energy to light up a metropolis, but Felix's naturally black-sounding vocals and Dino's drumming are mesmerizing. Try to take your eyes off Dino's power-punching and pin-point precise drumming. Just can't do it. No wonder he was a favorite of drumming god Buddy Rich.
@leahpd19 Dino's one of the most unappreciated rock drummers ever. He actually trained as a jazz drummer and, believe it or not, was the drummer for Lionel Hampton before the Rascals were formed. Pretty cool, huh?
TOMROM7: TY for bringing that fact to my attention. (that two female composers the song.) I hate to get my facts wrong. I jumped in when I felt I had to defend my Eddie - LOL when someone claimed that the little guy kicking his legs a lot was NOT hot. Also - Eddie's voice, of course different than Felix', was sexy and soulful.
BTW: TO ALL OF THOSE WHO THINK DINO IS HOT, HOT, HOT, IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD, I AGREE! IN FACT, HE LOOKS LIKE HE COULD COMBUST AT ANY MINUTE!
"The little guy" you refer to (Eddie Brigatii) was VERY integral to the Rascals' success and appealing "blue-eyed" soulful style. And as far as being hot? I learned that when he sang his penned tune, "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore," he put women in a trance. You might want to watch/listen to him on here..
@pumpkincat50 Actually, Eddie didn't write that song. It was written by Pam Sawyer and Laurie Burton. Eddie was great with ballads, but Felix had that amazing soulful voice. It's always nice to meet another Rascals fan.
I had no idea back in the 60s that the Rascals' drummer was the best ever! Wow! How embarrassing their first outfits, though. Ick. And the little guy with the tamborine who liked to kick a lot - not so hot. Drummer - WOW!!!!

Several years ago some rock critic said hearing the Young Rascals play live was the high point of the 1960s for him. Seeing this video gives me an idea of what he meant.
@pvtpstr Chuck Rainey and Ron Carter were the bassist for the band in the studio. Live, Felix played the base pedals on the Hammond. One of the best live sounding bands of 60's, even without a bass player.
My wish is to get a big, big hug from all four of these guys , that would fill my dreams to the most happiest moment of my life . Im so happy to be a part of that generation and this generation with these guys and these guys have always turned on my love light, and it's still lit.
This is one of the most energized, exuberant performances I've seen!
When I see this I'm reminded of a friend who saw an Atlantic records tribute show c. 1990. Zeppelin and scads of other greats were there--friend says: "The Rascals stole the show--they were the best band there."
He twitched like a chicken and threw his left stick around like he was going to lose it...What a drummer Dino is. Best in rock. He had the best back beats. This band was just down right good!
eddie great on turn on love lights,Dino body movements were so precise and timed beautifully with the music never seen anyone else like him, super fast
@jewfish424 - Felix Cavaliere (organ/vocals) used the foot pedals on his Hammond B-3 for the bass parts. The Ed Sullivan Show always ran heavy on the treble. To hear the bass pedals come through clear as a bell check out the live clip of "People Gotta Be Free".
