  • Wow that was good. The Rascals are new to me, and it is interesting to see someone different. The songs were really cool and vibrant. I like the variety of musical inturments. The Drummer, Dino Dinelli, really caught my eye. I am just saying. IMHO he looks a lot like Paul McCartney.

  • Them was the good old days LOL

  • Bang the hell out of those drums Dino!

  • Dino Danelli driving the beat on drums, and Felix on the Hammond B-3 organ driving it deeper. Man, it doesn't get any better than this!

  • Hard to not like the drummer.

  • the boys are getting down, excellent!!!!

  • My favorite drummer of all time, Dino Danelli.

  • They should have put Eddie Brigati to bassguitar lessons.

  • I Like It.

  • Dino is the DEAN of drummers!

  • Eddie Brigati has a little James Brown in him there. This a really neat video capturing the energy of the Rascals ... back in the day.

  • Every kid who wants to play drums should watch Dino here. This is a clinic.

  • oh un Paul McCartney rockerón XD en la batería XDD jaja... XD aunque estoy harta de escuchar que Paul murió y lo reemplazaron por Dino Danelli XDDD una cosa más! me encanta esta música

    Music Lives On!

  • Liberty DeVitto commented that DD would try to literally knock Felix off the stage. The guy is a monster.

  • They were cookin'!

  • Paul McCartney on drums!

  • Generally great, but WTF with Eddie ? He's on a different agenda or something.

  • Any chance you can upload Baby Let's Wait

  • Man Dino had so much going on,.I loved it then when I was commin up and love to see it now. ....A big reason I wanted to play drums ..

    .Thanks Dino Thanks a million!!

  • Dino,I always thought he was and still underrated as a drummer. When I first heard the Rascals back in the mid-late 80's right when I was getting into the drums....I heard this Dino and thought he was amazing, and still to this day I bring him up to younger drummers I meet telling them this guy is a awesome unknown drummer.

  • I love this song! My Mom was named Mickey & she was one cool cat!

  • AMAZING, AND!! NO BASS PLAYER.

  • I say Hell yeah! Man, I never reralized That Dino Danelli was such a Rockin drummer! Thanks for the clip.

  • THERE DRUMMER REMINDS ME OF KIETH MOON

  • A SUPER group. Dino and Gene went on to Fotomaker with Wally Bryson, guitarist from The Raspberries. Name of the game was one of their Ballsy tunes.

  • The most soulful white group of all time !! / they OPENLY loved soul music / and we loved their music / they took soul music to white audiences / PEACE & LOVE !!

  • Very good !

  • @tbstef Absolutely! He is so fantastic! :D

  • New Yorkers rule. Anyone with a problem with that, I'll re-arrange your face.

  • I,m so happy that this is back on the tube , I just love the Young Rascals.

  • One of the greatest soul bands ever

  • Dino is so amazing, he is so gorgeous to look at and talented. I think he might just be my favorite drummer ever. He is so good, makes the drums come alive.

  • Wow I am a life long Rascals fan & that video just blue me away. They were the best, thanks

  • Edward Franklin Joseph Brigati, Jr.! DIG IT!

  • Unbelievably great performance-those guys were smokin' & Eddie was surely channeling James B...

  • Why did Felix begin singing on the 4th. Measure rather than the 5th. Measure? Kinda broke up the rhythm and confused Gene, Dino and Eddie in the first 11 seconds but they went with it and all's well that ends well...Still the finest live performance of all time....

  • UH YEAh!

  • The drummer sorta reminds me of an Italian Paul McCartney with the mannerisms of Keith Moon or something.

  • Dino Danelli was HAPPENIN'..!

  • @geoffreydlang You got that right!

  • @OGPuffDaddy

You know, after watching this again, I find it strange that DD didn't - or couldn't - make more of a statement in the mid / late 60's drumming community.

Ringo, Ginger Baker and Carmine Appice are on the short list of names that always seem to surface..but somehow Dino's is usually an afterthought.

I'd love to see more footage of him with The Rascals - this guy was SERIOUS!

  • The drummer is just awesome ! Just like Keith Moon or Mitch Mitchell

  • Not only are these dudes fantastic musicians with spirit, but they were incredibly handsome and photogenic. Excellent for show and rock business.

  • Jlbaker2000 noted Dino studied under l

Louie Belson who by the way is still playing with Doc Severinson to this day. They are getting up there in age and Doc's a little goofy now.

Note in this video that there seems to be some confusion about the vocals and backups during Mickeys Monkey but is still the best live tv performance of energy rock to this day. Absolutely my favorite !!!!

  • @1636100 Louis Bellson died over two years ago from Parkinson's.

  • Eddie added a lot excitement, but only three guys are making an awful lot of music. I love Dino kicking the shit out of those drums. Gene is playing lead and rhythm. A terrific band!!

  • This band rocked so much with stuff like this and "Good Lovin'", that it's almost too bad that they got into that almost-ballad phase, e.g. "Groovin", and that MOR stuff like "People Got To Be Free". I understand those songs were commercially successful, huge hits really, but these guys were at their best with this dymanic, hard-rocking stuff.

  • For anyone who was wondering, Dino Danelli studied the drums under Louie Bellson, whose real Italian name is extremely long, with middle names and all.

  • @jlbaker2000 Real name Luigi Paulino Alfredo Francesco Antonio Balassoni.

  • @jlbaker2000

Yes. And the famous Gene Krupa, who was considered one of the best drummers in this country was reported to have been "blown away", after having seen Dino do a drum solo.

    True story.

  • What a great band they were! Thanks for sharing this video!

  • This band had so much energy. Just look at them! Especially the drummer! (Whose names escapes me)

  • The Rascals were a superb live band.

  • When bands used to be awesome!

  • That's what I'm talking about!

  • How friggin great is this???!!! What a band!

  • This entire band had enough talent and energy to light up a metropolis, but Felix's naturally black-sounding vocals and Dino's drumming are mesmerizing. Try to take your eyes off Dino's power-punching and pin-point precise drumming. Just can't do it. No wonder he was a favorite of drumming god Buddy Rich.

  • @leahpd19 Dino's one of the most unappreciated rock drummers ever. He actually trained as a jazz drummer and, believe it or not, was the drummer for Lionel Hampton before the Rascals were formed. Pretty cool, huh?

  • Who knew Ian Kinsler played the tambourine.

  • Felix and Dino........unbelievable

  • "The little guy" you refer to (Eddie Brigatii) was VERY integral to the Rascals' success and appealing "blue-eyed" soulful style. And as far as being hot? I learned that when he sang his penned tune, "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore," he put women in a trance. You might want to watch/listen to him on here..

  • @pumpkincat50 Actually, Eddie didn't write that song. It was written by Pam Sawyer and Laurie Burton. Eddie was great with ballads, but Felix had that amazing soulful voice. It's always nice to meet another Rascals fan.

  • I had no idea back in the 60s that the Rascals' drummer was the best ever! Wow! How embarrassing their first outfits, though. Ick. And the little guy with the tamborine who liked to kick a lot - not so hot. Drummer - WOW!!!!

  • @goldenoldie60 I agree; Dino was the best drummer

  • I'm amazed at how much energy these guys had, and how powerful the music was, coming out of just three pieces. Tight as a mouse's ear! Impressive.

  • Several years ago some rock critic said hearing the Young Rascals play live was the high point of the 1960s for him. Seeing this video gives me an idea of what he meant.

  • DINO!!!! He was great man, its kinda fucked up how drummers like Phil Rudd make it so big. Now most people are like who the fucks Dino Danelli?

  • @Thamacx No drummer better than Dino,he is the man.ROCK ON GUYS

  • @Thamacx Unfortunately, what you say is true. Dino is amazing.

  • Super doooooooper shitzmitt. Proud to be an American!

  • The Rascals were the Kings of Rock 'n' Soul. What energy.

  • This is one of those put the foot on the accelerator and don't take it off until they say "Good night!" performances.

  • fail - to not hire a bassist once they hit it big was inexcusable.

  • @pvtpstr Chuck Rainey and Ron Carter were the bassist for the band in the studio. Live, Felix played the base pedals on the Hammond. One of the best live sounding bands of 60's, even without a bass player.

  • @karmices

    just like the doors.

    denzmore was a genius.

  • @karmices

    i meant manzarek

  • @pvtpstr With Felix they were just great no need for a base player.ROCK ON RASCALS THE GREATEST EVER

  • bloody hell!

this is so tight! (even for today's standards)

I play drums in a few bands, and I was watching this in tension!

Feels like they had more energy than usual and were having problems to keep it under control, simply amazing!!!

  • This is unbelieveable, the energy.Dino must be one of the greatest drummers of all time.

  • is anybody watchin eddies feet and thinkin James Brown?

  • My wish is to get a big, big hug from all four of these guys , that would fill my dreams to the most happiest moment of my life . Im so happy to be a part of that generation and this generation with these guys and these guys have always turned on my love light, and it's still lit.

  • On of the true greats of Rock and Roll!!!

  • test

  • They don't make 'em like this anymore - I love Eddie's dancing, wow!

  • This is one of the most energized, exuberant performances I've seen!

When I see this I'm reminded of a friend who saw an Atlantic records tribute show c. 1990. Zeppelin and scads of other greats were there--friend says: "The Rascals stole the show--they were the best band there."

  • I have same guitar barney kessel vintage guitar rascals the great

  • Don't miss any bass player, would just be in the way.

  • The Young Rascals

Tearing up the place up! DYNOMITE!

Because they appear on THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW

    Mickey's Monkey by Smokey Robinson!

  • Lord have mercy, I'd love to get on stage with Dino Danelli!

  • So great an no bass. I saw them in Worcester and in Lowell.

  • DINO !!!!!

  • a true classic.... good live version...

  • preaching to the choir!

  • Man this is like being at the church. Can i get a witness.

  • He twitched like a chicken and threw his left stick around like he was going to lose it...What a drummer Dino is. Best in rock. He had the best back beats. This band was just down right good!

  • eddie great on turn on love lights,Dino body movements were so precise and timed beautifully with the music never seen anyone else like him, super fast

  • they need a bass player

  • @jewfish424 - Felix Cavaliere (organ/vocals) used the foot pedals on his Hammond B-3 for the bass parts. The Ed Sullivan Show always ran heavy on the treble. To hear the bass pedals come through clear as a bell check out the live clip of "People Gotta Be Free".
