  • How did you fill that jazz bass cut out in so well, if you didn't refinish the bass you would never have known it had that mod.

  • @djalsurdi67

cut a shape from a template on a router and glued it in :)

  • i prefer a Jazz bass but the P bass is an awesome bass

  • are you a fan of Tony Franklin, per chance?

your P-Bass with that scratched-away blue-black finish looks unexpectedly gorgeous!

  • @awfulguitarplucker

loved his work with Jimmy Page

  • when you started playing, my cheap jazz copy was crying

  • I have just set up my p bass straightened neck and internation, nice low action but i've noticed the Estring louder than the other strings. Should i raise the bridge saddle on the E string or lower the pickup on the Estring?

  • @Grun1410wald

    lower the pup :)

  • i assume your a bass player that plays guitars rather than the reverse.

  • I've been setting up my own basses for years, but really enjoyed watching this. Especially the history of your old friend. :)

  • @hzdonut75

    Hey thanks !!

    Cheers !!!

  • is this MIJ or MIA

  • @MRCOOL2345e

    It's 1978 USA made

  • @davey4557 thanks.

  • Every time you did an adjustment you stopped the video? Pretty Silly instructional Video without showing turning the actual screws??

  • My uncle has a 1975 Precision bass that's exactly like that one! haha. It's been re-finished and upgraded with a Seymour Duncan Bassline pickup. DAMN nice sounding bass.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=czKqXJ-5HJo there were few alternate bridges in 1980 when this was built

  • haha my bass is beginning to look somewhat like the way yours used to but I love it. It gives it that road worn vibe and a ton of character.

  • what kind of coin is that, im in scotland so i havent seen one like that...... sorry for the dumb arse question

  • @sgbigsby1989

i show a canadian and us 25 cent coin

.065 of an inch more ore less

  • rotosound swing bass are the best

  • @mkdFlaSh im more a roto flat wound fan

  • DAVE...SOMEONE ALREADY GOOCHED MY '51 REISSUE.....THE BLACK COVER HIDES IT.....MY QUESTION......LOOKS LIKE THEY GOOCHED THE PHILLIPS HEAD SCREW...CAN YOU REPLACE THE TRUSS ROD? SORRY IF IT'S A DUMB QUESTION......THANKS IN ADVANCE...GEOFF

  • How Many More Times! Good pick!

  • i dont even smoke weed anymore...but i totally wanna blaze with this guy.

  • what a poehaah about adjusting your trussrod, just give the fucking thing a wank with a screwdriver and just think logically about the direction to wank in... man, and you are not even a good bassplayer! hahahaaaaaah...

  • @schimmelpenninq PISS OFF, MATE

  • If I have the allen type screw...and with the acces on the body, do i have to take the neck off?

  • @archebeats

on newer fender I think they leave a space to get in with the wrench Don't they?

  • @davey4557 yesh they do...but I don{t I thougth still should give it a try.

  • @archebeats you will mark the guitar.

it may be possible, but I work on stuff that is not mine so I take off the neck.

I would recommend that instead of Gooching it.

  • @fendergeek1

    hmmm

    i'm not sure

  • nice t-shirt too

  • Thanks so much for the video. God bless YouTube! (I bought a 78 P from GC and am getting some help with the setup, but going forward, I'll tackle it myself. I have a crackly input jack also, so I'm turning to a Fender Master. The 78 I got had been modded with a humbucker, and a separate volume knob for that was installed, all very professionally done. I can mix the volumes, and the tone knob seems to affect the general character of whatever comes out from that volume balance. Ever see the that?)

  • @lmh1025

If my brain works I somehow remember seeing it all over the years

    good bad and ugly :)

  • beutiful bass !!!! ... i think it even looks beutiful prior to you refinishing it.... with the sweat marks :)

  • @mrbassman25

it rocked so many years and never let me down

I felt sorry for it and the abuse

    so I refinished

It will look nice foe when I'm buried with it

    LOL

    Cheers !!!!

  • HAHA I freaked out when he removed the neck, because all of my guitars are NECK-THROUGH....I guess that's one benefit of a bolt-on neck, but I like the structural integrity and added sustain from neck-through construction....

  • good ol U.S. quarter.

  • Great vid...I use a capo instead of rubber tubing...it's faster and holds the strings tight

  • damn i wish that was mine!!

  • @jdubbjazzbass

Out of all my bass guitars it's the one they can bury with me when I'm dead !!!

  • How do you set your pickup heights on a P-bass? THX

  • @pipesstratman

The magnets should be about 1/8 of an inch (.125 ) away from the strings when depressed.Use the 4 screws on the pickup to make it go up and down.

    Cheers !!!

  • Thanks Dave great video.

  • @Denvermorgan2000

    No Problem !!!

  • This is beyond cool! I saw you playing this in the Sin City Boys "Angel" video. A while back I requested a demo of this bass- with the setup and the history thrown in , you came through in spades. Thanks man!

  • @IamRetroman

    Cheers !!
