  • The microphone's definitely a MC-60 and the rig is a Kenwood 430s.

    Oddly, I have a used one and didn't realize that it was the same model until I watching an Alf episode on dvd.

    I have an Alf doll in good condition and have considered taking a pic of him in front of the mic for a QSL card ... yes, I'm a ham. :)

  • One of my favourite lines of his is the episode where the family go on holiday in a motorhome. After about 5 days rain Willy says "look we can either sit here and complain or we can do something about it" and ALF says "I'm gonna sit here and complain!!". I have it somewhere so I'l upload one day.

  • I heard that ALF was a ham on his home planet. Unfortunately, the United States does not have a reciprocal agreement with that planet, so ALF was operating illegally. He used the callsign AB5L extensively and operated mostly on 2 Meters, sometimes QSYing to11 Meters.

  • the word "alf" is german for alp like the mountains. the german town of "alf" had the signs outside of their city limits stolen in the late 80s when they found out why the actually laughed there were pictures of the mayor of "alf" in the stars and stripes

  • welll actually, "alf" is not the German word for alp. But you are right that there is a town called Alf in Germany, whose signs had been stolen in the 1980s.

    But: the name Alf was not chosen because of this town, the relation was discovered later. The name has to come from something else.

  • Recuerdo muy bien cuando pusieron la serie por primera vez, y me gustaba el amor a la radioafición que desprendía... por cierto, recuerdo que en algunos capítulos se veía un letrero con el indicativo. ¿Alguien sabe cuál es?
