Well Shiv is now a legend in his own right. Completly unorthodox but he has the heart of a lion/tiger!. In any game if you have the heart and desire you will have won 50% of the battle. Chanderpaul is an inspiration. I remember watching him as a young kid when WI toured India in 94/95 and thought how puny and dimunitive he looked for a pro cricketer...and he has lasted 13 years since that and still going strong with great averages in both tests and ODI!! great batsman..
chanderpaul cant play pace at all. If any of you got an idea about cricket, nudging and poking is not considered playing fast bowling. When you talk about sachin, lara, viv , ponting etc now you talking bout batsmen that could play pace bowling.
Ummmmmmmmm Shiv plays plenty of drives, and it's almost always to the pacers. He plays the pull shot about as well as anyone, and that's against the pacers as well. The man just scored 118 runs against Australia, you think those runs were scored from nudges?
When England couldn't dismiss him last summer, who was he scoring his runs against?
most of tendulka runs are scored against the weaker teams. out of his thirty something hundreds only about 4 or 5 are scored against the stronger teams. lara had some trouble to play pace. chanders plays pace better than both of the other batsmen because he is a natural timer of the ball. which makes him better.
9 of tendulkar's centuries were scored against australia alone, not to mention his centuries against pakistan and south africa and england.
and you're fighting a losing battle. there is no way that any cricket expert would say that chanderpaul was a better player than Brian Lara AND Sachin Tendulkar.
Yes Lara and tendulka is great but why do people take away the credit from shivnarine chanderpaul. He was in the shadow of lara and has been one of the most consistent batsmen there is right now. As far as i know tendulka never had to live in anyone's shadow and he always had batsmen around to support him. chanders most of the time has to do it by himself.

Man listen, chanderpaul is an ordinary batsman with an ordinary record. Thats it. He is not a viv or a lara or a sobers. He is in the second league and thats about as far as he will get.
Cricinfo had a good piece a few weeks ago on Chanderpaul's career. He may not hit the highest scores in any form of the game, but he's a consistent, reliable, dependable batsman.
I can assure you, Shiv aint no ordinary batsman. He isn't a Lara (who is anyway?), he is Chanderpaul, a guy who cherishes his wicket as good as the best in the world. Check his stats for 2007 and you'll understand this guy's skill.
Just cuz a batsman gets hit in his head doesn't mean he can't play pace. On a tricky pitch like this with uneven bounce, and a 90mph ball from the fastest bowler in the world (yep, the FASTEST) even the best batsmen will get hit. At least he didn't get out, and he still made his century

i dont think anybody can take away any credit from chanderpaul at all.this is the only man batting 4 west indies and its so it bin 4 years even wen Lara was there cause Brian dont score hundreds everytime and i think shiv was more consistant than Brian 2. Shiv by himself is lyk a whole team.if windies used 2 jus let shiv bat by himself we myt win more series..lol..not taking away from the other windies players but Shiv is the man they got 2 build around otherwise we SALT

You're right. We also need Bravo back cuz he's our best fielder, a good bowler, and a much better/smarter batsman than guys like Devon Smith. We also need Ramdin to bat with some sense and consistency (his hundred was good but I'm still not convinced he's up to par). Oh and Chanderpaul needs a huge paycheck after every game.

Well Shiv is now a legend in his own right. Completly unorthodox but he has the heart of a lion/tiger!. In any game if you have the heart and desire you will have won 50% of the battle. Shivvy you were not out in both innings of the 2nd test, I am sure the Aussies are sick of you!!!!Mind you the player of the second test was Russel Tippen who messed up the match with making 3wrong decisions in 4 balls.That is just NOT up to test standards.good to see Lee get a bit of his own medicine!

Chanderpaul is an inspiration. I remember watching him as a young kid when WI toured India in 94/95 and thought how puny and dimunitive he looked for a pro cricketer...and he has lasted 13 years since that and still going strong with great averages in both tests and ODI!! great batsman..

chanderpaul cant play pace at all. If any of you got an idea about cricket, nudging and poking is not considered playing fast bowling. When you talk about sachin, lara, viv , ponting etc now you talking bout batsmen that could play pace bowling.

chanderpaul is a nudger against fast bowlers. its very rare that you can get a drive out of him when against the pacers.

Ummmmmmmmm Shiv plays plenty of drives, and it's almost always to the pacers. He plays the pull shot about as well as anyone, and that's against the pacers as well. The man just scored 118 runs against Australia, you think those runs were scored from nudges?
When England couldn't dismiss him last summer, who was he scoring his runs against?

no no, don't get me wrong. shiv is an amazing player. however, he's no tendulkar or lara or ponting when it comes to playing pacers.
he can score, but he lacks that genius and aggression that is needed against the pacers.

most of tendulka runs are scored against the weaker teams. out of his thirty something hundreds only about 4 or 5 are scored against the stronger teams. lara had some trouble to play pace. chanders plays pace better than both of the other batsmen because he is a natural timer of the ball. which makes him better.

9 of tendulkar's centuries were scored against australia alone, not to mention his centuries against pakistan and south africa and england.
and you're fighting a losing battle. there is no way that any cricket expert would say that chanderpaul was a better player than Brian Lara AND Sachin Tendulkar.

Yes Lara and tendulka is great but why do people take away the credit from shivnarine chanderpaul. He was in the shadow of lara and has been one of the most consistent batsmen there is right now. As far as i know tendulka never had to live in anyone's shadow and he always had batsmen around to support him. chanders most of the time has to do it by himself.

tendulka is great. but i put chanders in his class even though most people wouldnt say so. This is my opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs, for a batsman to stand up and fiht in almost evry innings by himself.

yes, there is no doubt that chanderpaul is great. he is one of those players like dravid that if they get in, you just can't get them out.
and i completely agree with you in that he is not given enough credit. he is SO MUCH BETTER than that gayle, who isn't even that consistent. but, yes, that is cricket sadly.

He has to be great. chanders has 3 hundreds against aust. and two of them he was injured. wheater it is a losing battle or what. Just because of his technique that works for him he don't get recognition and he always on the losing side. So ah guess he cant be great because of that. But he is the Caribbean hero and them waste of time like gayle and them are treated like royalties. But hey ah guess that cricket.

that was sickening.. chanders is an awsome batsmen.. course he can play pace.. now that laras gone, hes the batsmen opposition teams fear the most..and such a genuinly nice guy too..im a sri lankan but i fully enjoyed how he hit a 6 and a 4 off the last two balls to clinch that odi.. i hope he scores more runs in the second innings and wins the windies the game.

if he can't play pace bowling alvin34865, then he's done superhumanly well to withstand at least a decade of test cricket and cricket at domestic level, playing against the likes of his former teammates walsh and ambrose.

Cricinfo had a good piece a few weeks ago on Chanderpaul's career. He may not hit the highest scores in any form of the game, but he's a consistent, reliable, dependable batsman.

I can assure you, Shiv aint no ordinary batsman. He isn't a Lara (who is anyway?), he is Chanderpaul, a guy who cherishes his wicket as good as the best in the world. Check his stats for 2007 and you'll understand this guy's skill.

Just cuz a batsman gets hit in his head doesn't mean he can't play pace. On a tricky pitch like this with uneven bounce, and a 90mph ball from the fastest bowler in the world (yep, the FASTEST) even the best batsmen will get hit. At least he didn't get out, and he still made his century
