As far as I'm concerned if America even trouches NGE live action movie it will be ruined just like they ruin every TV series they steal from other World wide broad cast companys.

I would almost prefer to see Eva as a series of 3DCG movies like the Final Fantasy movie.
Since it's been almost a decade since that came out, by now, we could do the same level of realism for much cheaper, or a higher level for the same price.
What's up with changing the place to New York City and the names of the characters? Ray? Kate Rose? Seriously? The only cool thing is the design of the EVAs. They look much better than the ones from the new Rebuild movies.
WETA won't mess up, because they're doing the VISUALS. But it will be produced by a major US studio like WB, Paramount or (god forbid) FOX. Throw in some shitty director like Bay and actors who are much older than the anime chars and the fuck up is done.

Maybe the first 2 movies can be PG-13, and the third one can be hard R, because the younger audience who saw the first 2 would be old enough by the time the 3rd one came out. You wouldn't watch the 3rd without seeing the first 2, so....yeah.
The finale MUST be epic and psychological, without censorship, so it can stay true to Hideaki Anno's vision.
Love it, the music is perfect, melancholic, with that exotic feel... Oh yes, #shivers#, like it very much indeed.
My greatest concern, in case they make a live action movie, is whether they will make it look good or not. The story... Well, they can't fuck it up more than the EoE, so long as they manage to keep some story rather than pure Angsting/Giant Mecha Fighting for three hours.
Some spine for Shinji wouldn't be to much to ask for, would it?
the EVAs look ok in these concept arts. as for the "live" character concepts, they need more work.
Rei's hip look big in her costume design(maybe because of it's white and black pattern), and her hair doesn't reflect her personality(it makes her look cocky). Asuka's hair shouldn't be too long it makes her look older plus her face looks too mature, her costume looked good though.
They should also change the base, tone down on its "futuristic-ness" plus add the hazard stripes in the anime.
I searched the song "Making Of Cyborg" for the Ghost in Shell Soundtrack (the song that is in this video), but its not as long or as good as this one playing. What version of Making Of Cyborg is this song?
There's like at least 3 different versions of that song. In the GITS movie theres the one at the beginning and another version halfway thru. If you havent seen that movie yet i strongly suggest you do so asap. I also have one of the versions in my favorites.
Once they got to the plugsuits it looked like shit. Rei and Asuka look friggin ugly. Plus, the settings for it look way too futuristic. Its only 2015.
Agreed, part of what made eva neat was you could relate to it, ie it was not set in a far off futuristic sci-fi story, it was in the future, but a future that could be right across the street.

So, yeah, Evangelion must take place in the near future in order to be exciting, because it talks very specifically about us and our contemporary culture.
One problem, they aren't American, they're from New Zealand, and they made the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, so you'd be killing one of the few groups of people whom do right by films these days.

If it's themes are so universal that they do not rely on the medium it is shown on, then yes.
The goal of any artist should be to find their audience, not the other way around, and it's unrealistic to think otherwise.
And it's not jsut a matter of "being lazy" but also of means, a film produced by WETA will be able to travel far more than Evangelion as an anime ever will.
Only for those which have a message meant to out reach to people.
Evangelion isn't just a work of art, it's an attempt to in part a life lesson to those whom are like Shinji, and it is not reliant on its medium in that respect, it should be allowed and encouraged to branch out, so that more can find and appreciate it, and consider what it has to say, and hopefully fine some measure of truth that Hideaki Anno hopes all his viewers will aspire to.
there is more than one work of art out there with a life lesson, worth of being well known. but it doesn't mean that's necessary to make a millionaire superproduction in english language with a-list actors to show it to the people of the world.

I ahve no idea where you got "sandra" from, but Kate Rose was settled five years ago, and I mean, THEY'RE NOT USING IT, RIchard Taylor, a co-founder of WETA stated this, they plan on using the original names.
The Eva concepts are badass, but as others have said, I hope they can find a cast that actually resembles the animated characters as opposed to these INO char concepts. Daniel Radcliffe might play Shinji which seems like a decent fit to me. He looks like him.
He's too old, ADV stated that 3 years ago. WETA also said that they are keeping the the original names, for the main characters at least, so it be a little odd if a British kid played a person with a Japanese name.

i think the only reason they made 14 year olds the pilots of Eva was becasue they weren't on the earth during the 2nd impact. that's just a theory though, seems like it fits in i guess.
I see anno fully intends to use adults/older teens as the pilots which makes sense since most young actors can't act (and the role of shinji is going to be REALLY important)...don't like the renaming of asuka's middle and last name...i mean they were so cool. and for the wapanese fanbois out there. out of the various japanese and american productions i've seen. the american show a far more vivid and dynamic style of acting than the japs (too wooden)

my point is..it would be easier to make an authentic look..if the fights were done at night....i wasn't saying the angels only attacked at night (it was only the first angel that did that)
I still don't get why a night fight would be more "authentic", it's not like the angels were nocternal by nature, nor any other creature of their size. Even Godzilla or king kong weren't shy of the day light.
in CG to create that authentic metal look, the shades of colour generally used are darker tones. look at kingdom hearts, crisis core and etc and their CG sequences (unless the light is striking the blades or metals directly, silver blades are a dark tone of grey)...and by doing it at night, the contrast on light and dark becomes so much more dramatic..making fights super epic. plus with darkness theres an added horror aspect of it..making the angels that much more scary and evil.
But doing so will create a boat load of fridge logic, there is nothing about daylight that keeps the angels from attacking, furthermore, daytime didn't matter for most of the attacks, the water battle, the magma battle, the angel that fell from orbit, the angel killed via computer, Kawrou, Arial, Leliel, etc.
dude..theres gonna be loads of things that aren't gong to the same as the original...thats the thing about adaptions..you have to get with reality and compromises from time to time...it sucks but some things have to be done
Yes, but your idea likley isn't one of them, there isn't any true logic to it, and as I said, for most of these battles, day light wasn't a factor anyway, a sea battle certiantly looks better in the daytime, and overall, makes more sense, there's no reason for Shinji and the gang to go visit the convoy at night.
believe me theres been alot of changes that makes no logical sense in contrast to the original. DB: evolution...being an example. i'm just saying it would be cheaper and visually better to have most fights at night...the more budget one saves, the more it can be spent on other areas....you know?
It wouldn't save any money, that's not how CGI works, it cost MORE money and time the more you affect the generic lighting the modeling itself with come with, which would be far closer to day light appearence than night.
DB: Evolution is not a valid example, it was made half-assed, and for the sole purpose for Fox to keep the rights, Evangelion is being made by a multi-oscar winning affects company who made the Lord the of the Rings trilogy.
And no, that would NOT be cheaper, I don't where you got that idea, but affecting the generic lighting the models come with would cost MORE money and time.

the EVAs look ok in these concept arts. as for the "live" character concepts, they need more work.
Rei's hip look big in her costume design(maybe because of it's white and black pattern), and her hair doesn't reflect her personality(it makes her look cocky). Asuka's hair shouldn't be too long it makes her look older plus her face looks too mature, her costume looked good though.
They should also change the base, tone down on its "futuristic-ness" plus add the hazard stripes in the anime.

There's like at least 3 different versions of that song. In the GITS movie theres the one at the beginning and another version halfway thru. If you havent seen that movie yet i strongly suggest you do so asap. I also have one of the versions in my favorites.

Once they got to the plugsuits it looked like shit. Rei and Asuka look friggin ugly. Plus, the settings for it look way too futuristic. Its only 2015.

Agreed, part of what made eva neat was you could relate to it, ie it was not set in a far off futuristic sci-fi story, it was in the future, but a future that could be right across the street.

So, yeah, Evangelion must take place in the near future in order to be exciting, because it talks very specifically about us and our contemporary culture.

One problem, they aren't American, they're from New Zealand, and they made the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, so you'd be killing one of the few groups of people whom do right by films these days.

If it's themes are so universal that they do not rely on the medium it is shown on, then yes.
The goal of any artist should be to find their audience, not the other way around, and it's unrealistic to think otherwise.
And it's not jsut a matter of "being lazy" but also of means, a film produced by WETA will be able to travel far more than Evangelion as an anime ever will.

Only for those which have a message meant to out reach to people.
Evangelion isn't just a work of art, it's an attempt to in part a life lesson to those whom are like Shinji, and it is not reliant on its medium in that respect, it should be allowed and encouraged to branch out, so that more can find and appreciate it, and consider what it has to say, and hopefully fine some measure of truth that Hideaki Anno hopes all his viewers will aspire to.

For Evangelion, that is exactly the case, anime does not travel as well as Live action, nor can it be as easily understood.
English is a matter of recourse, more udnerstand english than any other language, again, allowing it to travel farther.
"a-list actors" depends, the pilots themselves would likely be unknowns, but I can see someone whose well known play the supporting cast.

No, ADV is WORKING with WETA Workshop, hell they BROKERED the contract between WETA and GAINAX who owns the rights, being the creators and all.
So even IF an American company is trying to get on it, ADV is NOT the problem.

The Eva concepts are badass, but as others have said, I hope they can find a cast that actually resembles the animated characters as opposed to these INO char concepts. Daniel Radcliffe might play Shinji which seems like a decent fit to me. He looks like him.

He's too old, ADV stated that 3 years ago. WETA also said that they are keeping the the original names, for the main characters at least, so it be a little odd if a British kid played a person with a Japanese name.

The Evas are looking pretty nice (although all 3 of them yelling wuh?) but I hope they sex down the plugsuits a bit-they were already sexualized enough. Also hoping the kids will actually be 14 (those look at least 16) and they don't change any names as had been reported. Also, I want a pony and a toy rocket.

I see anno fully intends to use adults/older teens as the pilots which makes sense since most young actors can't act (and the role of shinji is going to be REALLY important)...don't like the renaming of asuka's middle and last name...i mean they were so cool. and for the wapanese fanbois out there. out of the various japanese and american productions i've seen. the american show a far more vivid and dynamic style of acting than the japs (too wooden)

I think for better authenticity of the eva;s appearance. they should mostly be deployed at night or in twilight (coz the angels supposedly attack at that time), so the CGI animatoers will get an easier time making a crisp looking eva

I still don't get why a night fight would be more "authentic", it's not like the angels were nocternal by nature, nor any other creature of their size. Even Godzilla or king kong weren't shy of the day light.

in CG to create that authentic metal look, the shades of colour generally used are darker tones. look at kingdom hearts, crisis core and etc and their CG sequences (unless the light is striking the blades or metals directly, silver blades are a dark tone of grey)...and by doing it at night, the contrast on light and dark becomes so much more dramatic..making fights super epic. plus with darkness theres an added horror aspect of it..making the angels that much more scary and evil.

But doing so will create a boat load of fridge logic, there is nothing about daylight that keeps the angels from attacking, furthermore, daytime didn't matter for most of the attacks, the water battle, the magma battle, the angel that fell from orbit, the angel killed via computer, Kawrou, Arial, Leliel, etc.

Yes, but your idea likley isn't one of them, there isn't any true logic to it, and as I said, for most of these battles, day light wasn't a factor anyway, a sea battle certiantly looks better in the daytime, and overall, makes more sense, there's no reason for Shinji and the gang to go visit the convoy at night.

It wouldn't save any money, that's not how CGI works, it cost MORE money and time the more you affect the generic lighting the modeling itself with come with, which would be far closer to day light appearence than night.

DB: Evolution is not a valid example, it was made half-assed, and for the sole purpose for Fox to keep the rights, Evangelion is being made by a multi-oscar winning affects company who made the Lord the of the Rings trilogy.
And no, that would NOT be cheaper, I don't where you got that idea, but affecting the generic lighting the models come with would cost MORE money and time.

i heard that mike greenfield, the director of the dub of evangelion, wants is involved with the movie. he has also said that he doesn't want to make the movie for profit and wants it "done right" he also said it will probably be a trilogy so nothing important gets cut out.
