  • i love asmhan

  • On 14 July 1944, a car carrying Asmahan and a female friend of hers crashed into the River Nile after the driver lost control. Without a door on their side both ladies got stuck and drowned. Nevertheless, the driver managed to escape.

  • there's controversy about whether or not the driver really did lose control. Some people believe that it was actually her family who sent someone to kill her because of her scandalous actions. Also, there are some theories that Ulm Kulthum couldn't handle the competition so she sent someone to kill her. Just FYI if you didn't already know. :)

  • @Sw3raq1 the driver also was never found. thus hinting a possible assassination and the involvement of the driver. The most likely governments behind the assassinations are the british and israeli government. However, theories state that the British and Israelis planned the assassination. The assassination itself was carried by the corrupt Egyptian government at that time. Very sad to lose someone like this. Extremely hard, if not impossible for another phenomena like Asmahan to rise again! RIP

asmahan probably the greatest arabic singer (yes better than um kulthoom) fairuz is an angel that discended slowly from the sky...

  • usually Druze people have green eyes, how come ??? well it shows that the Middle East is not only islamic and arabic, but the region has a very ancient and diverse history so many cultures, nations, religions etc....like assyrians, jews, greeks, persians, foenicians romans crusaders etc etc

  • As if all Arabs automatically translate into Muslims.

  • not according my vision but according to the dominated Eurocentristic vision...

  • Ferid al atrash and Amal al atrahs's family from Ottoman - Lebonan area. Their father was a good officer of Ottoman Empire. both of them's songs beatiful, exactly voice and music. this Egyptian films showed cinemas in Turkiye in 1940s and 1950s. i know many songs in Turkish from Ferid al Atrash.selam and thanks for clips.

  • They were Syrians.

  • Asmahan, Fairuz and not to forget the Kawqab El-Sharq Oum Kalsoum - The 3 Great Divas of Arabic Music.

  • It doesn't matter where she was from u ignorant idiots, in the end we all speak the same language and we're all ARAB...if we can't listen to music peacefully, can we do anything else peacefully? No wonder our countries are in deep shit right now!!!!!

Anyways, this song is amazing, Asmahan is truly a legend!!!!!

  • I don't care where you're from Asmahan, I still love you! =)

    R.I.P

    xoxox

    <3

  • arabic is the most beautiful language..and she doesn' sing in kurdish

    so there she is arab

  • I agree with Yazza5355673

  • i agree with suryoyoyoyo

  • I don't agree with suryoyoyoyo

  • She is ASMAHAN, Amirah Amal Al Atrash, The Druze Princess. Born in Syria, spent a few years in Lebanon, and raised in Egypt. She did come from Syria, but calls Egypt her home. Does it really matter where she's from? She gave us all a gift for Gods sake!

I don't think we should be fighting, we should be enjoying the gift Asmahan has left for us, and that is her Golden voice.

    R.I.P Amirah Amal <3

  • I agree with u Yazza5355673,

Asmahan was truly a legend and her spirit will live on forever

  • actually she was born on a ship headed from Greece to Lebanon spent most of her time in Lebanon

  • xD

ur right about where she was born, my mistake...

But I'm pretty sure she spent her life and singing career in Egypt..

    xox

  • Her father was Syrian.

  • her mother is from lebanon !! and she spend her life with her mother !!! she use to speak in lebanese not in syrian !! she did not liked to live in syria with her nefew !! these things are a fact !!

  • I love this song, being a swahili speaker helps as we use a lot of arabic words. She belongs to the world.....stop arguing and listen ( as well as look ) instead.

  • asmahan is half lebanese half syrian and grew up in syria lebanon egypt , she had no contact with her father so she lived as a lebanese girl with her lebanese mother who taught her how to be trendy and modern just like all beautiful lebanese women and girls , and she spoke only lebanees with family , and egyptian with her friends in egypt !!! she is the ultimate DIVA !!

  • She was 100% Syrian, no fucking lebanese or egyptian.

  • Actually, her father was Syrian and her mother is Lebanese. Her mother is from the same village my grandmother is from and her father is related to Sultan Basha al Atrash.

  • what does it matter, Lebanon and Syria were once together and have the same heritage. People used to migrate back and forth between what is now Syria and Lebanon a long time ago. So you or your relatives might of come from Lebanon and my relatives might of come from Syria

  • A wonderful example of the golden age of arabic music. This composition is featured in Simon Shaheens "Aswat: the Golden Age of Arabic Music" currently touring in the United States. Dr Shaheen's concert is a wonderful tribute to the beauty and elegance of classical arabic music.

  • صوت لا يعلو عليه صوت اخر

  • I love that so many comments are posted in English by Saudi, Syrian, Lebanese, and Egyptian posters who all seem to hate each other and want Asmahan for their own. This is not about all posters obviously; I just find it funny that the English defined these countries after WWI, and now you're all using that language to curse each other.

  • اظن ما في داعي للعنصرية

  • Who cares about her nationality. The important thing is that she's a diva and for her this question is not what mattered. She was both Egyptian and Syrian and Lebanese even though everybody knows that she was a Druz princess. Stop asking such meaningless questions.

  • Absolutely agree with you. I don't know why people come her to rise such things.

  • She is Syrian, not Lebanese or Egyptian.

  • she was probably Lebanese since u Syrians claim everything Lebanese is yours

  • hahahah u tell them!!!! wtf we got the ebst singers in syria and leb ppl always claimin them!!

  • baby khirye kilee khara wa feki 3an airy

  • Stop being crazy. Syria and Lebanon and Jordan and Palestine (and then Israel) were all artificial creations of the French and British after World War I.

The region of all four (five?) countries is similar, while also having differences that one would expect to find in a center of world culture for the past 5000 years.

  • The only one that steal other people history here is you Lebanese, Asmahan is Syrian and you Lebanese are jealous and want to steal what belongs to Syria.

  • She died too young, a great loss. :(

  • Her voice is amazing.

  • ههههههههه انا مغربي و أعرف مند طفولتي أن فريد الأطرش درزي فمن أتيت بهذه المعلومة المقلوبة؟؟؟

  • hahahaha.. you know nothing sweety!! the Durzi are kurdish hahaha.. your are so such idiot!!

  • True, some of the Druze are from Kurdish origins , hence the names Aslan... Yazbak, in reference to Uzbekistan...etc, but some also are from Yemen... The Arab world is not so homogeneous as some nationalist would like to think. Before the Muslim "fateh", the whole region was filled with Syriacs, Aramaic, Armenians, Greeks, Byzantines, Copts, Berber, Jews and so forth....

  • I agree with you brother!!

  • Syrian druze are Arabs, she is Syrian Arab Druze, the druz in Palestine and lebanon are kurds, they a e not the same as the arab druze in syria.

  • My brother if you belong to a big family. it shoud be same people race.. and where is the diffrent.. we are all human being.. kurd or arab.. thanks för your comment anyway

  • no you lyed. Asmahan is a Syrian druze, Syrian druze are genetically Arabs and not the same people as the kurdish druze that live in lebanon and Palestine.

  • Lebanese Druze are not Kurds, they are genetically Arab you stupid idiot

  • only Syrian Druze are Arabs, them in Palestine and Lebanon are kurds.

  • I am a Lebanese Druze and I assure you that me and my relatives are Arabs and are not Kurdish. I don't know where you get your information from but it is false. There aren't even that many Kurds in Lebanon. Most Druze in Lebanon are descended from Arab tribes. Please stop trying to convince people that Lebanese and Palestinian Druze are Kurds because they're not. If you don't know what you're talking about don't say anything and you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

  • Jumblatt is kurd.

  • that's only one person

  • Just because some of Jumblatt's ancestors are Kurds that does not mean that the whole Lebanese Druze population is Kurdish.

  • Many Druze in Lebanon and Syria are related and like I said before many Druze from Syria have ancestors from Lebanon and many Druze in Lebanon have ancestors from Syria. If you know your history you'd know that Lebanon and Syria were once called Greater Syria and it was one region.

  • druze are arabs you idiot.

  • hahaha.. its clear who is idiot :)

  • How am I an idiot. You clearly don't know anything about Druze so don't pretend like you know. You know, I am starting to believe that most of the people in this world are stupid and ignorant because of people on Youtube. The people on this website are completely low and narrow-minded.

  • Where are you from Bragko?

  • Syria! and Iam not kurd..

  • Dude, I never said you were a Kurd. Calm down Bragko.

  • its calm brother!! but everybody think Iam kurd thats why. what about you? where are you from!!

  • I am from Lebanon.

  • In your own believe, may be singing is prohibited, which carries many wonder marks! Yet you are free even in believing that singing grows horns to the head! Bring a prove from Qura'an!!!!

  • Look at you meaasge box they is 3 proofs from the Quran and 3 proofs from the Hadith. Also a interviwe with a great Imam.

  • Don't listen to music then. :)

  • Don't play stupid over me. Okay? Russian Bitch!

  • Hahaha - what you gonna do ? :P

  • I'm druze and i think you're full of shit.

  • You're an idiot arabworldDRUZE, I knew of a Druze sheikh that used to listen to om khalthom before he went to sleep.

  • Don't call Arab Christians Kafir, how dare you? We don't choose our religion, I'm Lebanese and in my country we all live in peace, help each other. After all we all worship the same God. Take back your words you Ahbel

  • May Allah have mercy on your soul.

Libnan is peaceful, how do you know what's going on there? You, my fellow arab have no idea about the world. Get educated and come back to reality

  • Yes and don't try to re-interpret the words of God to fit your own twisted view of the world. God chose fit to manifest himself in many different ways to the world. We should be content with the religion of our birth. Read the Koran carefully, read all holy books carefully. Not enough people do these days.

Neither should we be disrespecting such fine music by arguing. Just listen, look and enjoy!

  • Asmahan's mother = Lebanese Druze

Asmahan's father = Arab Druze from Syria

  • druz are muslim and arabs.Just a different sect. Asmahan is lovley

  • She is Syrian, no God damn lebanese

  • so druze are not allowed to sing?

I didnt know that it probally explains why she is the ONLY female druze singer I have ever heard of.

  • You are talking non-sense. Qura'an didn't prohibit singing. Prohibiting art in general is the culture of the backwards. Anyway, you could always avoid watching (or hearing) songs, but never apply your own rules to others. Every body is free to believe in whatever he wants to believe in.

  • You are very wrong. I'm as a druze belive in one god and what god told the prohets to tell us. you can't belive in whatever you want. you cant say "I belive in to gods" and then walk around happy god will punish you for your sins. And I tell my brothers and sister these things so they know it's haram. then its they job to keep they IMAN srong so they don't faild to SATAN!

  • Still من شاء فليؤمن ومن شاء فليكفر. All what you have said is a matter of your own believe, but you have no right to judge others believe (Specially that even within Muslim community, some Muslims may look at your statement about singing as a corruption in your own believe!) God only who can determine who has the closest right faith, for whatsoever your job is just following what you believe in, and wait until the judgment day!

  • Druze are allowed to sing. Do not listen to that moron that goes by the name arabworldDRUZE.

  • gorgoues singer/woman with greenish eyes,syrian.

  • and lebanese :)

  • she is Syrian druze, her brother Farid Alathrach

  • Both her parents are druze but

She was Half Syrian and Half Lebanese.

    Her mother came from LEbanon.

  • صوتها روعه افضل من صوت ام كلثوم

  • ام كلثوم قطعته بعد كدة

    وخلته تبطل غناء خالص.........

  • Yes she is, Al-Atrash is a famous family. Her mother is a Lebanese druze and father Syrian druze..

  • she is druze

  • why turkish flag there?

  • Its not a Turkish flag (its green, but obviously you cant tell in this), notice the three stars. Its the old flag of the Kingdom of Egypt. 1922 - 1952

  • The flag at the back is the older Egyptian Flag, Green w a white creasent and 3 stars. After the Monarchy was abolished the flag changed to the current red, white n black stripes w golden eagle in the middle.

  • yeslamli hasot el 7elo! such a shame that she died so young coz she's much better than Oum Kelzoum...

  • the german intelligence of hitler killed her.. and it was well documented that the german Nazi intelligence had info that she supports english british and allies intelligence during world war 2

  • W all due respect she and Om Kalthom are both amazing and Om Kalthom was already successful so, y would she b happy. Its better we appreciate 2 great singers than diss one of them no? Also, its is well known that she had some relations w the Germans (probably to help her own ppl) so, its been rumored that it was the Brits who were behind her unfortunate fate.

  • What is the lady next to Asmahan distributing?

  • what is druze?

  • The Druze (Arabic: درزي, derzī or durzī, plural دروز, durūz) are a religious community found primarily in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine whose traditional religion is said to have begun as an offshoot of the Ismaili sect of Islam, but is unique in its incorporation of Gnostic, neo-Platonic and other philosophies

  • You can read more about them in wikipedia

  • elo3'neya deh gamda :)

  • Thanks Moonshine725. Do you know a song that's sung partly in Arabic and partly in French that starts out Ya Ya Ya Moustafa, ana behebek ya moustafa...? What is the name of that song? Shukrun

  • Excuse my ignorance, but who is Fareed Alatrash? Was he playing the oud in this video?

  • faried el atrash was her brother and hes a singer also id nt recall seeing anyone playing le 2od

  • fareed alatrash is amazing hes a legend genius and a very kind hearted man evryone knows that about him he has the best voice and compositions in the world to prove that he was the only person from the arab world that got the "khouloud" award from france he was also the only one called the king of the oud from not only arabs but from turkey

hes the best and will never be replaced no matter what because people as talented as him dont come and go I LOVE YOU 7ABIBI FAREED ALATRASH ALLAH YER7AMAK

  • I wonder how many other fantastic movies from the Middle East we are missing in the west and would like to see. Too bad there isn't more of an exchange of cultures. I've heard of Umm Kolthum but not Asmahan, she is fantastic also. Thanks Shukran

  • Howcome i cant find her song "ahwa" coffee!

Come on please someone post it its awesome song pleaaaaaaaaaaase :D

  • yes, I loooved coffee bcoz of that amazing voice :D

  • very nice voice

  • She is Syrian Arab Druze.

  • I have never heard of her before. I just read Dreams of Trespass and wanted to find out more about her. Not only was she beautiful but talented as well. Umm Kolthum is my favorite of the two, I love Ashmahan now also.

  • Amazing quality, this is from the fiftees, great song too!!!

  • the 40's not the 50's ...!

  • I do not mind be proud that she was Druz or whatsoever, but we limit her by saying that, cuz she was Arabic artist, and actually Egypt is the soil which she grow in, it is like you telling me it's only Druz she belong to us only, which I do not think that she herself would like that

  • Thank you Asmahan for this lovely song.

  • Asmahan (Arabic: أسمهان; birth name: Amal al-Atrash) (1918-1944) was a famous Egyptian - Syrian singer and actor who lived in Egypt and sang most of her songs in Egyptian Arabic. She was the sister of Farid al-Atrash, a famous singer in his own right, and a member of the famous Atrash family known for its role in the resistance against the French mandate in the 1920s.

  • one and only فريد الاطرش

  • i love all druze
