@000YellowFang000 You'll seldom experience regret for anything that you've done. It is what you haven't done that will torment you. Not buying a No. 5 for $170 will torment you forever ;-)
@000YellowFang000 Back in 74 a coworker bought a house and found a rifle in his attic and asked if I wanted it for 10 bucks. He didn't even know what it was. I figured " 10 bucks , What the hey? ok. Next day he brought it over and in grease paper, was a No. 5 Mk1. Gave him the 10'er, cleaned it up, bought a clip (10 round) at the local surpluse for 15 bucks . Only thing is; the No 5 has a No.4 bolt. Shoots good groups. That was a deal of a lifetime. Thanks again Dan B. (The Coworker)
Just bought one of these off a guy online about...10 minutes ago. All original, all matching, Malaysia marked... apparently saw combat. Some fool ground down the Bayonet lug on it though!!?? who would do such a thing, I don't know. But for $250 I couldn't resist. They are going for $400 plus taxes where I'm from so... I'm a happy camper :) also have a Savage No4 being sent out to me today:) and bought a SMLE last week !! aaahhhhhhhhh stop me!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ChromeArty If someone removed the bayonet lug, the rifle has probably been in Germany at one time. They had some strange law there that if a civilian wanted a military weapon he had to remove the boyonet lug, fix the sights at 300 meters and the magazine could only hold one bullet. You will probably find German proofing, import or export markings on the barrel or receiver.
Nobody has to stop you, just keep collecting and preserve history! And please post some videos?
@UNPROFOR1994 That is very interesting info! thank you. I will certainly post a vid of the rifle when she shows up. The guy said that it has an SMLE mag with a little bump ground off so that the No 5 receiver will accept the mag. That seems to point towards your idea as well...Fuck! I really hope the sights aren't fixed to 300 meters! that would really suck. :(
I'm curious as to why there are no No.2 or No3 Lee Enfields could you point me in the right direction to learn about this?
@UNPROFOR1994 Your gonna love this, talked to the guy I'm buying the No 5 from and he assures me that Bubba did it, and that it was not in Germany.
Why the F*CK would someone do that!? what benefit could grinding off your Bayo lug have!? more streamline? what an idiot! only 250 000 made and this guy is taking his grinder to it ? what a nut case.
@ChromeArty Now I am almost 100% sure the rifle has been in Germany. Using a grinder they removed the Bayonet lug. Using spot welding they fixed the sights at 300 meters, fixed the magazine follower and fixed the magazine to the rifle. That way they changed the No 5 in to a single shot rifle for civilian use. You can replace the flash hider, sights and magazine. Numerich's sells a replacement flash hider assembly for the No 5, but you may have to take it to a machine or gunshop to install it.
@UNPROFOR1994 No mate, she has never been in Germany. Some fool thought it would be a good idea to grind the lug off for cool factor or something. The sights are fine. He probably never had a mag for it and just made one from a Smelly Mag.
It seems like a Kraut job, but the sights are good so ....? I have no idea.
I almost don't want it know though :( 250 is not a bad price..but I think I'll just start collecting JC's :) so I will get a non-fucked with one soonish
@ChromeArty The No 5 you are buying has probably been imported by an american soldier who served in Germany. Even with these "German" changes they made it is still a great rifle.
Just be sure that it is a No 5 and not a converted No 4! There is a good comparison video on You Tube, look for the video with this title: Lee Enfield 1945 No5 MkI Rifle. It is made by user Jollygreenslugg.
@ChromeArty It can have the name of the German dealer, one of them is HEGE. If your No 5 has been in Germany and has been converted to a civilian rifle it will have post war proofmarks or "Beschusszeichen". I think there are 6 "Beschussämter" in Germany. Beschussamt Kiel, Köln, MellrichStadt, München, Suhl and Ulm, they each have their own proofing markings. Just google one of these 3 words: Beschussamt, Beschussämter or Beschusszeichen. You will find what you need to identify them.
Thanks for your comment Unprofor1994, I've been on You Tube for quite a while, didn't realize one could reply to another this way. I own a jungle carbine and have always loved it, loved your presentation, thanks again. Great rifle !
@jeffshootsstuff Thanks Jeff, it looks like it has seen a lot of action, the stock has a lot of nicks, the bluing is almost gone, but it is an original. To me it still looks great!
Good video . Love my No.5Mk1. Origional except has a No.4 Bolt . (solid ball)

@UNPROFOR1994 Seen it :) It is a No 5 for sure. Thank you though. The tell tale gap under the ladder sight is clearly visible.
You said there may be German markings ? if it was in Germany
