yep i agree w/these two! u need to get him listening to u be4 he gets to excited bout running hard(i kno he wasnt going hard) but trust me soon a horse figures out they can run home thats all they will do so ur barrels will start getting wider and wider!
I'm not really argueing you on any one point. I just find it's easier in the long run to pull a horse in, than to push them out. This way when chadwick starts laying over in his turns, he won't be dead set on staying close, and it will give me more control to position him exactly where I want him to successfuly turn the barrel. Not saying he won't start diving anyway, but I'm just not going to encourage it by keeping him tight every single time I work barrels.
It doesn't have to make sense to you. This is slow work, it's working to develope his balance going around a turn at the lope. It doesn't matter if that turn is a little wide, it's still teaching him to set himself up rather than me muscling him around to the point where he has to break in order to follow me. Once his handling at a wide turn improves, I will gradually make the space smaller. Better to start him wide and bring him in, than to have to push him off because he's diving into a barrel
Wow this. Year was my first in rodeo and I did the same

Wow! You should get matching reins! That would be so cool.

Nice run, the only thing is don't run him home, that is the very last part of training. get him to run inbetween barrels first :)

i like the way you train. ur horse is really nice looking (i love palominos =]) and he seems to be moving along nicely :]

thanks. =D

You could also train your horse to turn wide and then when you want to go tighter later it will be harder to train. That's my belief.

*shrug* six one way, half dozen the other.

when u are slow working ur supposed to turn wide because when u fast work u will go tighter, same with pole bending. or at least thats how i do it.

ok, just seemed kinda like a debate. My bad, then. :)
