  • Dude ur videos help me out big time, thanks! \m/

  • great song of pantera, and great tutorial.

    i have a question

    what`s the name book?????

  • u suck at teaching

  • Nice job on the playing part. But is you say "ok" one more time I'm going to throw up!! Ok ok ok ok ok ok

  • *great

  • \m/

    Gret lessons

  • Would be better if you had a dry sound when you gave a tuning to match to.

    But, pretty good lesson.

  • That's the shit

  • m8 i cant get the tuning

all of the strings have to be 450?

  • @metaltas Yeah. Tune your guitar to C# and set the tuner to 450.

  • well i thank you for the upload bro but i have seen dime play on the second position and then switch to the first position to play the first part of the song

  • GreaT job man some of us appreciate you spending your time to show others how to play songs thanks again job well done

  • dam.. I want that book

  • Comment removed

  • tune with yer ears not machines. cmon

  • on 5th string"2p 0" are you picking the string with 2 freted and pulling off "0" ...I'm doing it that way and sounds wierd...seems to sound better if I dont pluck the 5string and just use fret hand and pull of with left/fret hand "2p0"...is the non picking way right?

  • what guitar do you have?

  • @Theultimatetoonboy Just listen to the sound in the video and tune it to his....

  • I LOVE THE THE SOUND YOU HAVE

    GETCHA PULL!!

  • Hey I've been playing guitar a while now, bout three years, all I really know are my scales, I don't understand when I look at how your saying to tune it like I understand, that "a step down" is like "drop D" tuning... but when ur talking 1... 2 and a 1/2 you lose me, not cause ur not teaching good ive learned quite a bit from your videos, but could you maybe explain to me on here, or make a video about what exactly those step downs are, I know nothing about musical theory :/ anyway thanks.

  • @f8lshadow maybe i can explain a little. In music theory there are sharps and there are flats and naturals.Sharps look like this: # flats look like this: b there's no natural symbol on a keyboard :/. These symbols help us to identify pitches. Now music is based on the first 7 letters of the alphabet ABCDEFG. Steps are the chromatic tones in between those notes. for example

Standard guitar tuning is EADGBE: all these notes are natural 1/2 a step own from that is EbAbDbGbBbEb

    1 step down is DGCFAD

  • @f8lshadow Tune yur guitar on C# + 1/4 up.

  • @diegodevilman thanks to both of you Ive been getting into theory.... i dont rly like it. lol but ya thanks guys

  • (8)5150 views!!!

  • thanx a million pal............ that was a great lesson ;)

  • Mattster do you like DOWN?

  • IMA SO LEARN THIS SONG! (Tuning: Challenge accepted)

  • some songs are too slow recorded, so they place it faster on the cd so the tuning goes a little bit up, look at highway to hell

  • @GuitarRiffs13 Highway to hell was standard pitch and they slowed it in mastering. I figured they thought Bon Scott's voice was to high.

  • You're awesome dude.

You are now subscribed to m169marroquin.

  • You're awesome dude.

  • Dime played it on the 5th string though dude!

  • @Stonedpimpin76 in the video, but live it was like this, and probably like this in the studio

  • @TrippyTro Just messing with you bro, thats how play it too. killer tone btw. what are u using?

  • @Stonedpimpin76 i think he said he uses a line 6 vetta II. he said that a while back in a vid i beleive

  • thanks dude, your teaching style suits me down to the ground. I found you through Pychopathy Red. Keep it up \m/

  • yo you rock man thanks for the classes on youtube people like you rock and save people like me money! DIME FOREVER

  • concerning the point at the beginning, 'where to play the first riff', Dime plays it fifth string so dunno where those tabs are from ..... BUT ur right, it is easier on the 4th string, so THANKS!

  • Ah I was so confused. I was thinking "Wtf, I can play this in either D tuning or Db?" I never knew this was between D and Db

  • dude this was so easy to learn.

  • Hah makes it handy I have the exact same tuner.

  • Count how many times he says ok :p

  • Do you use any pedal effect?

  • repetition with agressive lessons is really what i need. its everything i need. thanks. think about making some kind dvd or online lessons(for money of course) im trying to do the same with lauguage as well, but Japanese is rocking me hard. but! never give up. thats what i say. the day you give up one thing, you can be sure all the others will soon follow. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-peace out-MM

  • dude how can u play without a pedal and not get noise from the other strings? I got a peavey vypyr 30 1x12 and the sound is not that clear. Is it a guitar thing? Got a schecter demon fr

  • @darksl4yer Probably a noise gate. You could look into one, they aren't expensive.

  • @darksl4yer I constantly deaden the strings that aren't in use with my left hand.

  • @m169marroquin thanks for the reply. But how can u deaden 5 strings and not the one u're playing without getting a palm muted sound from the string?

  • @darksl4yer wow, u must be a rookie ?

  • @disposablehero117 about a year in...Thing is I only have this problem when using effects like tubescream or Xr wild (effects on peavey). Without them I dont really have a problem with the other strings

  • yeah man u got awesome sound.. Please tell us your amp?? :)

  • 19 dislikes...or 19 jerkly students.

  • Its tuned in Dime standard hahaha. I wouldve said that.

  • man thanks so fucking much bro when i cliked this video i didnt know shit now i know a lot bro thank you so much

  • hey... do you hate your ds-1? haha

  • Good sound. Amp please?

  • Good job man...Thanks for the lesson!

  • can you show the effect settings for this?

  • Great lesson, However if you watch Dime play it live he does the 5th fret thing. But it really doesn't matter.

  • Every time I saw them live Dimebag played this riff on the fifth fret, not up on the second like the tab says. Either way, this f-ing song is so bad ass!

  • Dude thank you so much for this vid! And all your other vids to, you have taught me so much stuff from your videos so...yeah keep at it man, your a brilliant guitar teacher \m/

  • THANK YOU! Oh Lord yes! I play bass, and was trying to work this song out by ear, but all songs that are down tuned seem to evade me :' ( Never the less! Your savage guitar tutorial has taught me I'm Broken ^_^ \m/ Rock On Dude- R.I.P Dimebag

  • holy crap i was searching for this i i found you dude XD

    whats up Q?

  • this vid rules i can finally play a Dimebag riff thanks :D

  • dude your awesome! this helped me ALOT so thank you! :D

  • i love how you say 'what dimebag does" and not did, your keeping him alive man

  • mkaay mkaay mkaay

  • what amplifier do you have?

  • what amplifier do u have?

  • Am I missing something? Why are people tellin him to calm down?

I watch this, and I see a guy lovin what he's doin, putting empethasis(SP?) and gives pretty clear instructions.

Lovin the vid tho brah. It's really helpin me get this catchy riff down. thx \m/

  • Dude ur a fukin idiot.

  • great video man but u need to calm down :P

  • And what if we don't have a weird ass tuner like that one?

  • @zyphernova750 just play it in standard tuning. it almost sounds the same

  • I have that same book. :D Is it ok to just play the song in standard e tuning? I don't really like drop tunings that much.

  • Not that it matters, but it seems that Dimebag played the hammer on in the beginning on the 5th and 7th fret. Sometimes tab books are not very accurate on the positions. Nice video btw. Great sound too.

  • your really high strung heh? lol

  • Dude, that tone is fucking amazing! What are you using?

  • badass....damn dude what are you using for amplification??

  • Thanks brah

  • What type of amp do you use?

  • this dude can act like what ever he wants..just keep putting down the Pantera tunes -) much love brotha thankyou.

  • ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ok ... :)

  • thanks dude! great job! \m/

  • u need to cut the strings from the head of ur guitar it doesnt look bad ass and it gets in ur way darrel never even did that!

  • if everyone copied someone else no one would be original.

  • Awesome vid man...keep up the good work..and don't listen to the dumbasses who thinks you're playing it wrong...ROCK ON BRO

  • do drag the waters by pantera.

  • Could you post a video of that tuning? I don't know how to tune my guitar to that tuning. x.x I figured out how to play I'm Broken though. ;o I just started out in standard tuning since I wasn't serious about it.

  • pitches are for snitches, snitches are some bitches, put em in some stitches & throw em in some ditches; that came together when he started hating on the technical pitches haha

  • man howcome ur so uptight in this vid ur always calm in others

  • @m169marroquin lol. fair point!

  • @MegaLotusEater does your name come from Opeth?

  • @LWRCftw No, Lotus Eaters are a mythical people from Greek legend who live on an island and eat the intoxicating lotus flowers that grow on their island all day long. The 'Mega' prefix is just my own little addition.

  • The way this guy talks is why English people find Americans irritating

  • @MegaLotusEater The reason English people find Americans so irritating is because we dont give a fuck about your "queens English" your "High Tea" or any other of your dumbass customs. Thats why our ancestors said fuck you and caught the first boat across the pond, remember? By the way, you can have that douchebag Simon Cowell back any time.

  • @71stormrider Actually, your ancestors went to America not to escape the language or the 'dumb ass' customs, but because they believed in a different type of Christianity than the British mainstream. But I take your point.

  • @MegaLotusEater I think that's just an excuse to be mad because they're still sore losers over The American Revolution. ha

  • your great i like how you pull the pinch harmonics out and vibrato im jealous. understanding the chromatic scale would help alot for those who dont if you do it'll be ez say standard e (eadgbe) E dropped 1step down is D (chromatically) now D dropped a half step is C# and any standard tuning is 440hz 440 +10cents is 450hz most tuners will say 430hz 440hz 450hz that order. drop to C# make the needle land on 450hz Bam good luck Chromatic scale EFF#GbGG#AbAA#BbBCC#DbDD#EbE<=THE OCTAVE #SHARP bFLAT

  • Tuning: 2 and 1/2 steps down sounds right to me..that's the same tuning Adam Jones used in 'prison sex' a year before this song came out..that's probably where dimebag got the idea

  • Dude, your amp sounds killer. I don't understand what "...a line 6 spider 212 first series" means. I've been playing since 90' on accoustic, but just recently switched to electric. Can you give me a heads up? I'd appreciate it.

  • ¡ Relax men ! calm down!

  • it annoys me to have to go into all these weird ass tunings to play pantera songs

  • where did u get tha mother fucking book!!!!!!!!!!

  • i dont get the e chord position part

    in the intro

  • thanx a lot 4 the work dude. It helps me a lot ´cause we want 2 make a cover and the way U explain is the best one.

    Thank U!!

  • is this also the tuning for Floods? i just dont get it^^

  • hey man where did u find that book with pantera's songs?i fucking want it! PANTERA RULES

  • At 5:20 it's called an octave

  • i've known this song for a long time, but every time i play it, i have a bizarre issue. when i hammer the second fret on the fourth string, i also get the sound of hammering the second fret on the third string at the same time. i'm not accidently hammering it too, cause i've even gone as far to have someone else hold the third string while i play it and it still sounds out. anyone have any suggestions or solutions?

  • on the studio recording it was Eb(flat) +20cents

  • cool vid bro no solo though :(

  • @intentsellarse not many can solo like dime

  • Metallica did the same thing with their tuning on the first 4 albums. They would tune just below a 1/4 step higher than natural tuning for a unique, tight sound. I hate being a critic but your missing the style man. Your notes are right but Dimebag plays the main riff on the 7th fret of the 5th string so the 6th string can ring open & add weight. Then he rolls the 5th & 3rd frets off on the tail end to give it flow. You got skills. I dont wanna be a hater..but technique is as important as pitch

  • if u try to play along with the record its gonna sound like shit!!!

lol i dont know that cracked me up

  • Or perhaps Dimebag played it at a different tempo in the studio and the recordings were sped up or slowed down during mixing altering the pitch of the instruments.

  • Man your tone is sick it's nearly like Pantera . I am thinking of buying something to improve my tone . What would you propose , buying a new guitar , new amp , or distortion pedal . If its a pedal what pedal would you choose ? Please , I would really appreciate it if you replied .

  • @giasou55 a vox tonelab is a great pedal it has a tube in it it also has a wah a couple of amp models delay reverb and a shitload of other effects

  • @Austin55947 Ah thanks . It sounds a bit expensive though =) .

I got a new amp . Line 6 IV 15 w and it sounds good . Thanks for replying though .

  • you rule!!!

  • this dude is on a 12 pack of coca cola and a canadian accent

  • i'm pretty sure dimebag had the guitar tuned this way by playing hard and he was bored of tuning it so he wrote it just like that :P

  • kewl

  • Best. Lessons. Ever.

  • hahaq i love your opinions about music theroy

  • love your website man.

  • "AND THE PITCHES!" LOL good vids man!

  • Wat up with the ds-1 in the corner at 0:55?

  • adderall

  • obey your mattster mother fucker. great video, fucking annihilating song, pantera were kings

  • @ChaosRiddenReaper they still are kings

  • man what kind of equipment are you using? this shit kicks ass

  • Thanx for the guitar lesson! Cool sound!

  • great sound bro! what kinda amp are you playin through... and are u using any effects?

  • this dude needs to calm down

  • @planBist hes all coked out huh?

  • @planBist funny you mention, I teach the very opposite of calm music.

  • @m169marroquin, i dont know what are u talkin bout, cuz this music really relax me, just like weed.. if i dont have weed i just play Pantera!

  • Comment removed

  • @m169marroquin ...u got a point...great vid anyway.. :)

  • @planBist i can't belive those 34 thombs up... for what, an out of place comment... my god... look just two seconds what the guy teaches, and then ask yourself 'does he really needs to calm down?'.... F*CK NO!

  • @planBist Dude you got it all wrong it's not that he is too intense, he is Far beyond driven.

  • cool man ! great lesson! unlike that slow paced crap littering youtube now adays

but I still think it's easier to do the main riff between the 5th and 7th frets as opposed to how it says in the tab book xD

  • i think it sound f-ing bad ass.

  • The tuning is in C# Standard. You must calibrate your tuner to 430. PERIOD! You can see that this guy has it in 440, and that's the only problem. You'll see that your squeals will be easier that way... Cheers!!

  • The tabs are wrong as well, I appreciate what your trying to do, and Im sure this took time to make but the main riff is wrong (like you said). Look at the real video, Dimbag is obviously on the 5th string at the 5th fret. Screw what's easier, play it the real way, and teach the real way.

PS: Your still a good guitarist!!

  • everybody fucking shut up with your drop tunings. it's tuned in Db standard, a little higher actually like this man said, but no drop Db or drop C, dimebag never used drop tuning, dont say he did

  • @Jibbaribba

    he did XDXD

look at save me, from damage plan, he used drop tunings all the time. he even shows you in a save me lesson, he goes to drop b. i know at first i thought he never used a drop tuning either. pantera never used a drop. damage plan almost always did

  • alot of the great southern trendkill was in c standard

  • i always played this with dropped d. niceeeee

  • 0:58 "if ure not gonna be able play along all of the record is gonna sound like shit ok?"....xD

  • The best way to learn are live shows and your ear. This is a deadly combo

  • dimebag plays it the other way i looked at the live videos :P

  • thats the way Kerry King Plays it and he was good mates wi Dime so id say its right

  • how do you get your sound? what effects are you using man?

  • i'm only nitpicking here but i've always played that opening riff on the 5th and 7th frets on the 5th string. looks like that's how dime does it in the music video too.

they're the same notes you're playing but it has a thicker sound on the 5th string instead of 4th. either way is right it's all preference.

  • I have the same tab book (it's Pantera Anthology if I'm not mistaken) and it sucks pretty badly. Though this song is pretty much correct the rest of the songs are transcribed by some moron.

  • Your vids are great man, keep 'em coming.

  • This is played in the 5th and 7th position hammering on the a string 5 to 7. You can youtube up a live pantera vid and watch dime play it. He probobley uses a pitch shifter as well.

  • @valdi9165 exactly!! just cos something is in "the original" tabs, that don't mean its necessarily exactly right. but anyway, thats not even the point, I jus guess it can help u out n give u ideas.

must say d lesson is great n u seem like a cool dude m169marroquin.. keep on rockin'!!;)

  • fuckin awesome man, helped heaps thank you!!!!!!!

  • what tab book is that?

  • Probably Riffer Madness

  • muy bueno che me sirve de maravilla!!!!!!!! saludos che y gracias!!!

  • thanks

  • please tell what your amps set at and what effects you have

  • go up 10 points from 1 and ½ steps down to make it 1 and ¼.

  • i know it has nothing to do with this vid, but im having trouble with the tuning for 'Becoming' by Pantera. any help would be appreciated.

  • @titomatica yeah me too dude. cus when they play it live, its like this tuning. but on the cd its almost like half a step than a quarter step

  • this songs not hard atall man its like pantera easist song on rythem. solos abit tricky but.

  • just awesome, thanks a ton...

  • The song is way harder than it sounds to play.

  • isnt it!!lol
