Enjolras has a great voice, but he's supposed to be inspiring the students, not intimidating them. Plus he needs to actually move his arms while he's walking instead of holding them at his sides. Other than that, very very very impressive cast as a whole.
marius sucks, not fair to match such a brilliant eponine with such a weak partner. he has a weak voice and is often sharp and then flat. basically, he doesn't have the range for the part
And I'm especially happy that this was one of the versions that has someone say "Enjolras" at the beginning of Red and Black. I haven't been able to see one before now, and I've always wondered how you pronounce his name. :P
I love Eponine's voice! Everyone in this production did very well, but she stuck out as excellent. I liked her better than a few professional Eponines I've heard.
Eponine is wonderful. The cast don't have that heavy, ugly American accent other productions do. I don't really like the way Enjolras keeps walking back and forth, though. And Marius can't belt for crap.
Lucifer is a Latin word meaning "light-bearer" (from lux, lucis, "light", and ferre, "to bear, bring"), a Roman astrological term for the "Morning Star", the planet Venus. The word Lucifer was the direct translation of the Greek eosphoros ("dawn-bearer"; cf. Greek phosphoros, "light-bearer") used by Jerome in the Vulgate, having mythologically the same meaning as Prometheus who brought fire to humanity.
In that passage, Isaiah 14:12, it referred to one of the popular honorific titles of a Babylonian king; however, later interpretations of the text, and the influence of embellishments in works such as Dante's The Divine Comedy and Milton's Paradise Lost, led to the common idea in Christian mythology and folklore that Lucifer was a poetic appellation of Satan.
Many modern Christians have followed tradition and equated Lucifer with Satan, or the Devil. A parallel description of Lucifer's fall is found in Ezekiel chapter 28 "A Prophecy Against the King of Tyre", which contains a lament over an "anointed cherub" who was in the "holy mountain of God". He is described as "perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee."
The passage goes on to describe this being's expulsion from the "mount of God", apparently because his "heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness." Afterwards the passage describes the eventual fate of this corrupted cherub: "therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more." Lucifer is mentioned several times in "Stars" by Inspector Javert from Les Misérables.
I dont like the Marius very much...Wheres the conviction? And Enjolras had to much of a grovel after belting the high notes and coming down to the lower ones.
Even if it was a mistake though it was in the wrong spot... And you're totally right, it sounds wrong, but all in all this is not bad for a high school production. This color lyric issue is my only real complaint.
Marius does go a bit sharp and flat but over all he is quite a good singerand Eponine picks up the slask very well.

while enjolras is singing ' don't let the wine go to your brains' the drum that plays during the end of that (timp or a tom?) is WAYYYY out of tune.

I think the Eponine has a really nice voice! The Javert if pretty good too, but I agree that the wig is a bit annoying, lol.

The singing is of much higher quality by comparison to most high school productions- despite the few lyric flukes. But that happens.

The only problem I have with this is Javert's wig. It annoys me.
siriuslyamazing 3 years ago
really?the wig doesnt bug me so much as Eponine's outfit...and they screwd up A LOT of the lyrics
FullmetalAshlyn 3 years ago
whats wrong with the outfit?
alexm613 3 years ago

The blood of angry men? Was that a mistake or was the score different?
Creationwiz 3 years ago
no idea. Perhaps lyrics were different... But it doesn't really sound very good, so I dunno
9Musicals9 3 years ago
Well in my score it says "The color of the world is changing day by day. Red: the blood of angry men.
Creationwiz 3 years ago
that's how it should be. We were wondering why they sang otherwise.
