  • i love women clever women

  • @ernesto2scoops i love clever women too, they are more sexy

  • i would listen to this song on repeat in a fallout shelter during a nuclear war!

  • This like a nursery rhyme. Simple music for simpletons.

  • @12rotter music isn't about being clever. It's supposed to make you feel things, not think things.

  • I was talking about this song to someone last Friday as it was a song on a compilatuion of theirs. It was, at least, one of the highlights of the cd. Thanks for uploading!! :)

  • Yeah it is a superb pop song

  • Catchy pop tune, pity the song is about suicide!!

  • @Skyeskimmer - yep - it sure i

  • @Skyeskimmer A few 80s songs were about suicide, inspiral carpets, lonely is one.

  • @Islamisbad1

there were 70s songs about suicide too

Boomtown Rats - Diamond Smles tonight

    and that MASH theme

Back in the day I never understood why anyone would want to commit suicide. Hamlet meant nothing. But now I have asked that question, to be or not to be. And chosen being.

  • @pgconn Jennifer by the Eurythmics.

  • this song was stuck in my head for years (since the 80's actually) and i didn't know who it was until tonight when i heard the song 'beach baby' by 'the first class'. i recognized the horn part. it was very similar. i did some clever googling and found out it is from 'symphony no. 5" from "sibelius". well, wouldn't you know, the wikipedia had a listing of popular songs that used that horn section and one of them said "strawberry switchblade, since yesterday, 1984" and i said "thats gottabeit!!!"

  • @todtubetod great research pal

  • @todtubetod What a top story!!!

Happy you stumbled upon an old tune you liked!!

Google and Wikipedia have definitely been my friends while looking for childhood songs on youtube!!

  • MEGATASTIC

What a shame the 80s came to an end

  • o m f g what memories tiis brings back.

  • I remember randomly hearing this song on the radio once years ago, the chorus got stuck in my head, but I never knew who sang the song until now, when the video randomly showed up in my recommendations.

  • i was 17 then and boy did them girls make me think i could take on the world xxxxx i couldnt take on the world but ive had a good life so far and this tune stays with me when i just need a fresh smile and a secret hug xxx kate

  • i was 19 then,god they are sexy ladies

  • I miss the guileless goofiness of the 80's. Fuck I even miss the prissy poseurs of Soft Cell.

  • Powerful pop hit of the 80's!It begins with an excerpt of Sibelius 5th.Symphony.

  • this is one of the effortlessly great things of the world

  • makes me feel real expressing my girly punk side of me :D i danced this song in a prom of the 80's best uk girl band :D

  • 5*****!!

    Jennie. x.

  • Flashbacks here !!!! was this 85 ? not gonna cheat n google it lol

  • @imissthe80s100 yeah i think so, I have the hits of 85 on vinyl and its on there....im only 17 and i heard this when i was 13 and immedietly fell in love with it....its one of those songs you dont skip on mp4 player

  • @lifesabeach9137 .. Good for you, 17 yo and into 80s music it beats the rubbish out today !!

I was 14 in 1985 and remember it well. nice comment btw -)

  • @lifesabeach9137 same. i'm 14, but i deffinately prefer 80's stuff... my boyfriend thinks i'm crazy, but i think it's better than most stuff these days. although i'm more into the Ska style.. but this is good.

  • Wonder what Sibelius would think of those first few repeated notes? Its a great take on his No5 Symphony... just as much fun!

  • Suffering from depression and revisiting favourite tracks - this and the Kane Gang Closest thing to heaven help to relieve the pain

  • @finesse1967 Hang on in there mate - there is always something new on the horizon. Don't let depression beat you. Sending my strength to you tonight ;o)

  • @finesse1967 keep strong dude : 0 ) you'd be mighty pissed if you won 100millon on the lotto next year!!..

  • @ocyrus70 Yeah @finesse1967 - listen to us ;o)

  • @finesse1967 - Everything seems great looking back - but it's because we were young and didn't know much about the harsh realities of life. The trick is to have low expectations (as Edwyn Collins would say). .My favourite 'put it into perspective' lyric is: "Life's a piece of shit - when you look at it." from the Life of Brian. Cos it's so true. I would send you positive vibes if I were capable of feeling them. I hope you feel better soon though.

  • This video reminds me of the song "I plant my own tree" from Valley of the Dolls!

  • A spot of Scottish pop!

  • im upset, but happy

  • oh man and i thought my generations pop music was bad lol

  • whats the stage slang for?

  • School disco song! Memories of snogging Julie down the side of the stage

  • I don't know why, but this song always makes me sad...

  • I used to fancy them too because I could see they were really very attractive underneath all that make up. :)

  • @Planetoxo good man!!!!

  • OMG I haven't heard this for years. <3

  • I had many a tommy over these two..!!!! And good old kleenex was always there to mop up the spills..!!! :D

  • @dav215 me too!!!!!! I used to use a school sock!!!!!

  • they was support to Horward Jones Birmingham Nec 1984 good night well enjoyed, nice to look them up

  • @BlastEMFF I went to that gig too.... they had an old geezer on a keyboard and a big backing reel to reel tape deck... classic night

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 1985. What a year.

  • Precursors to Alisha's Attic.^_^

  • All I can think is French and Saunders......

  • @ritaivy2 Hahahahaha!! Now I can't NOT think of that when I'm watching! Too true =P

  • THE ANCESTORS OF MODERN EMO...

  • @AlashBatyr Not at all, more the precursor of Japanese goth-lolita style and great dream-pop artist, nothing emo in here.

  • loved this, was fascinated by them as a kid ...post punk pop - siouxsie make up, vibe of bananarama

  • This is a BEAUTIFUL song. Whatever you do, you have to stop thinking this video is somehow a live action remake of some obscure Japanese Manga by the Haysee Fantaysee Fan Club of Our Twins.

  • It looks beautiful and scary at the same time. Weird...

  • I love bubblegum pop/

  • it's like a doppelganger lovechild of go-go's and siouxsie sioux.they are like less commercial version of the bangles and evrything bananarama wanted to be but were denied by the record company.

  • I love dots

  • What an awesome pop tune..

  • i love strawberry switchblade.deserved to have been massive in the uk,not just in japan.

  • works as a runner in big brother these days

  • Just used in "Coma Girl" on Channel 4 :D

  • @NullNyctota Yeah! I enjoyed that, hope it gets a series. I was enjoying it and then liked it even more when I heard this play it out!

  • can any one help ,,,im trying to find out the name of the classicle peace of music this was taken from ,,,ie the opening brass section thats used throughout this track ?????? please help x

  • @markydodd Sibelius, Symphony No 5 the 'Allegro molto' - about 1 minute in the horn section introduce this. The same question nagged at me for months ...

  • @profcarmichael thanks a bundle ,,,,you star ,,,loved it ,but had no idea where it came from on the strawbery switchblade track ,,,then lost it in the anals of time only to reminded of it last year on the seven wonders of the industrial age ,,,it was played in the background ,so only about 20 odd yrs of waiting ,,cheers for that !!!!!

  • @markydodd Yes, bizarrely enough the background track (in 'Industrial Age') to Bazalgette's building of the North London Outfall Sewer, as I remember it. The KLF (Bill Drummond was involved in their career) couldn't have made it up eh?

  • @markydodd Also very similar Beach Baby by The First Class XG8MQ8f4nF4 .I remember Radio 1's Anne Nightingale show discussing the three in the 80s in a recurring feature comparing similar tracks

  • wonderful.. 1st single i ever bought. Then given "ghostbusters" my 2nd single.

  • I´m 45 years old. This song made me realize I was born in the wrong generation.

  • I love this song, And I'm only 3 months old.

I was born in the wrong generation.

  • @IloIloGirl97 CATCHY ISN'T IT

  • @IloIloGirl97 listen to the Specials and you will defo think you were born in the wrong era ;)

  • @retsevlyslegyn Eh? Strawberry switchblade were contemporary and fresh , the specials were copying an era before, circa 1969/70

  • @wordscontrolminds ERM ! what you talking about ????

  • Why did good music did? Evil, I say!

  • Polka dots always mean good people.

  • This always cheers me up. Back when we ruled the world and never knew what we had and thought we'd have it forever....

  • @MyLittleDiscolite If that's your own it's exactly right, and I love it. If it's stolen, I love it almost as much.

  • @MyLittleDiscolite probably coz we were on speed and lager at the time.

  • I was born in the 70's and grew up on eighties music, bring back the 80's.

  • long live the eighties!!!!!! this song takes me back to my childhood!!!give me this anyday than the shite most come out with these days!!

  • @IloIloGirl97 Just thank God for You tube eh? And check out Fuzzbox as well - another girlpower band waaaaaaaay before the wretched spice girls!

  • yes i would have liked a kiss but it was a long time ago

  • @IloIloGirl97

I was around when this came out and, ironically, was 13 and believe I was born into the wrong generation.

  • @IloIloGirl97 you're NOT the only one, people say I'm weird just for listening THIS<3

  • this is what the 80s is all about

  • The hot bridesmaids for the Ladybug's Wedding...

  • Amazing.

  • @TheAlienesque

I have to agree with your comments entirely. If you look at the US charts for the early to mid 80's the second 'British Invasion' had certainly had a major impact. I think I was fortunate to have had 'my youth' in the early to mid 1980's... There were many big problems in the UK, but the music was bliddy good. I can't bear to listen to modern music. Maybe that's a sure sign of ageing though!

  • @TheAlienesque Scottish women are mad as arseholes, but are fucking lovely,i still fancy them

  • @TheAlienesque I'm not kidding anyone, so I might as well admit I was rubbing one out over this video at the time, and typing my response one-handed.

  • @TheAlienesque I'm inclined to agree.

  • @IloIloGirl97 No... in every generation there will be people who look further than today's music, today's fashion, today's life. You may be one of them - and who knows, you may start a whole revival of this kind of music. I for one wouldn't mind... I always loved this song too, although I'm a 46 year old long-haired garage rocker :-)

  • @IloIloGirl97 I thought the same thing when I was 13 about the sixties.

  • I loved this song! and still do.. :-D

  • the black-haired chick is incredibly cute

  • rose and jill were our neihbours at muswell hill they wer scared stiff of us lol remember girls? xxx

  • I saw them play at the Brighton Centre as support to Siouxsie and The Banshees. One of them was ill so the other did an acoustic set, if I remember rightly.

  • ive still gor this on 12" :)

  • The intro tune for this is very similar to something about half way through 'Beach Baby' by First Class.

  • ahh so this is where the mighty boosh got inspiration for those electro-girls.

  • @FormerlyKnownAsShun lol so true :)

  • I also miss 80's pop music as everybody feel.

I mean we live in hard time for music lovers.

This song reminds me "Time after time".

  • Great song from a great decade of music. Miss the 80's so much... but when I hear this song, it always brings tears to my eyes.

  • I would like to finger both of them, they are lush girls

  • @BadEggCymru One of them's a granny now (and has been for a while!) You Welsh PERVERT!!!

  • @magpie1892 even better!!!!!

  • @BadEggCymru Sick, sick boy. But I love you.

  • @magpie1892 HIGH FIVE????

  • @BadEggCymru Always. Give me some skin, you Celtic twister!

  • I don't care I used to really fancy them

  • @BadEggCymru Likewise, but that's nearly 30 years ago - Ray Reardon was still in his pomp!

  • @magpie1892 ray reardon never had any pomp, he looked a lot like drackula but there was no pomp that I remember.

  • @sybaris1 Six-time world champion? No pomp?!

  • @magpie1892 You have to remember they were all won back in the days of minimal if any TV coverage. In fact I doubt any of his wins were ever publicly broadcast as pot black was the first televised tourney and that started IIRC after his last win. For my own recolections as an 11 year old watching terry griffiths go from qualifier to winner in 1979 was great but yep when watchng ray reardon play he there was no pomp as you put it just an older man having fun and cracking the odd joke.

  • @sybaris1 No, his last win was in 1978 - the second year of the Crucible and LONG after live broadcasts of the WSC had started... I'm keeping my pomp, sorry!

  • @magpie1892 ok :) Whats a bit of pomp between pals and TBH he was a nice guy.

  • @sybaris1 Still is, as I understand!

  • @BadEggCymru yay I've come top in something!!!!! I still love the both of them

  • This is what made the 80s a amazing decade of music . Long live strawberry switchblade and god bless them

  • This song makes me cryyyyy.

  • Great song - still fresh today well for those with ears anyway.

  • Best song ever? Well no, but lot's of fun, and that's why I searched for it!

  • original teenage dreams :0))

  • 1982 - i was fourteen - and soo-o-o-o painful in love to Jill Bryson and Rose McDowall! Blackcherry - Beauties!

  • the lyrics are very suitabel! "for all we have now is our thoghts of yesterday" lovely memories! great band!

  • And the memories came flooding back, good times ;-)

  • gillian wont remember me but i snogged her lol

  • @WilliamBonner1 I didn't...but I snogged some bird who looked a lot like her a lot ! Easy big-hair girls in Cleopatra makeup and poodle skirts. Them was the days they was then...but no more!

  • @SweetSweetWaldo ,she woz just startin out ,but she woz still a looker

  • BLAST FROM THE PAST OR WHAT? NEARLY 30 YEARS AGO,FUCKING HELL......GREAT TO HEAR THIS AGAIN. HAD ARGUMENT WITH WORK COLLEAGUE TODAY REMINISCING ABOUT BANDS AND STUFF AND I LAUGHED AT HIM WHEN HE ASKED IF I REMEMBERED STRAWBERRY SWITCHBLADE,AND I SAID THERE WAS NO SUCH GROUP....HENCE LOOKING THIS UP ON YOUTUBE.....FANTASTIC..I'VE NOW LOST A HUNDRED QUID..

  • Reminds me of my teenage years

  • nikki bull where are you?

  • Awww my mum was at art school with them :) started Jill out on guitar ^.^

  • Brilliant pop song. Shame the rest of the album wasn't up to much. God I used to fancy the short one! (My mate fancied the tall one - so that worked out well!)

  • @dsoaudio I use to fancy both of them, so that worked out pretty well for me, never did get around to doing a 3 sum:)

  • @kevinturvy That's just plain greedy!

  • @dsoaudio takes you back though don't it?

Still got my copy of the single, never got the album, never even knew they made an Album.

  • there used to be two girls who used to dress like these in dublin about 20 years ago,and i saw one the other day still dressed the same..Must be in her 40s.We used to call them the Flower Pot Faries..Those were de days

  • I was lucky enough to see them live at Birmingham NEC supporting Howard Jones (Think it was the Howard Jones gig anyway) either way they were great :D

  • I had this on lp n loved it :D one of my fav's when I was younger :D

  • Love ´em!!!!!

  • イーッネッ!イーネ!イーネ!イーネ!イ〜ッネッ!なつかしぃっ〜ねっ!

  • If this isn't the best thing ever created by humans it must be fucking close.

  • This reminds me of Robin Sparkles

  • I was soooo lucky to have grown up in the 80s !

  • optimistic sound , melancholic words !

  • @dopakaiboha that is the essence of New Wave--upbeat, happy dance songs about misery, heartbreak, loss, and despair!

  • @Rep0007 and they fulfil it perfectly

  • Comment removed

  • eh, I like the current 93 version better

  • god i love the 80's!!

  • oh, i deffo got a boner for the black haired one. come to think of it... both of them... but the wasy the 'raven haired temptress from below stairs' one is so sexy when she tugs at her hair and wanders around. i think i need to go and do something secret now...
