Cole began playing the song for live audiences and it was an instant hit. Nat needed to track down the author before he made a recording of this song which was released in 1948. "Nature Boy" shot to #1 on the Billboard charts and remained there for eight consecutive weeks during the summer of 1948.

The definitive version of a gorgeous song! Does anyone know who's playing guitar? It sounds a bit like Joe Pass, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to say that for sure.

@davidhalldurham - Yes, thewordkeeper is right. That's Irving Ashby (1947-1951) on guitars, who replaced Oscar Moore (1937–1947). The guy on bass is Johnny Miller (1944-1956), who replaced Wesley Prince (1937- 1944).
