Phoenix, the guy to ben's immediate left is not the bass player. The bass player is on ben's far left (to the backing singer's left - the backing singer is a guy called Nick Coyle). In my opinion they don't need Nick's harmonics, they sound better without him acoustic or not. You probably got mistaken because the bass player isn't shown in this particular video. Even though he is still present to the far right out of the camera shot,you can still hear his bass playing away. Muchos respect man.
