@sirgarruovl Mutts have less health problems because there is more genetic diversity amongst them. It has nothing to do with proper evaluation of their breeds and whatnot.
"Because their genes are usually unrelated, the chances are good that the parents of a mixed breed puppy did not both have the same defective genes. It is the pairing up of the same defective genes that causes some of the worst health problems in dogs"
Poor dogs living in cages, pissing, and shitting thru their cages. Dogs do not need to be confined in a little area. They need a yard to run in. If this is what being Blue Ribbon means, I want no part of it. My dogs run my yard and sleep in 10x10 kennels at night. Cruelty is right. Your dogs look miserable.
Guess what , I have adopted some of these puppy mill cast offs , and after about 5 years they still have no social skills , scared of everything , but oh well I do the best I can
There is nothing wrong with this. There is to much of a felling of entitlement in this country. These animals are livestock. These are the same people that want to ban all butcher shops and meat eating in general so no big surprise they fell livestock should have more rights then the people making a living providing a supply to a demand.
I'll be honest: I want to see every one of the verminous scum that runs one of these places hanged. Only a soulless beast would treat dogs (or cats), or any animal that way. This should be illegal everywhere. Unfortunately, the state legislature of MO has so little love of democracy that they've decided to overturn the anti-puppy mill legislation the VOTERS voted into law last year. The tea party is not big on animal rights...
This place may have a "somewhat" clean kennel. However, they're still breeding for profit. This to me and I am sure to a lot of dog owners and dog lovers is PURE GREED and SELFISHNESS. NO DOG should have to go through being bred litter after litter for the SELFISHNESS and GREED of human beings. Please go to a RESPONSIBLE, REPUTABLE, and ETHICAL dog breeder.
This may be a clean place compared to the average pup mill where the dogs are matted and standing in feces. Although the place is clean for pup mill standards this is still very heartbreaking you can see all the dogs had such a dull look to their eyes they are not living a happy life. I don't think breeders should have more dogs than they can keep happy, loved, mentally stimulated, exercised, groomed and healthy. Every dog deserves to
Run free in a yard, sleep by a warm fire and snuggle
Missouri...what a disgusting hell hole. Puppy millers are the scum of the earth and it's long past the time for society to stop them. The AKC coddles them and makes loads of money from their disgusting trade. It's time for the AKC to be held accountable. Wow, what a horrible world humans have created. I long for Judgement Day.
Those dogs are only over crowded into small crates because this video was taken at the auction with hidden camera. It is against the law to video on a person's private property and signs are posted at these auctions stating so. The dogs are caged in preparation to carry them to the auction tent. I see very healthy dogs/puppies and very clean facilities. It is not easy to obtain Blue Ribbon status.
Beautiful clean kennel. If only all peoples houses where that neat and spotless! To bad the Human Society wants to stop anyone from owning a pet period. thealliancefortruth com says it all. Oh don't forget Peta's sole purpose on earth is to slaughter pets. They kill over 90 percent of them. Never take your loved one there to slaughter! Shame on them. I love pets and would hate to see them all gone like peta and the Human Society of United States wants.
Like many of you animals lovers, I once was a follower of what PETA does. But as I went more and more into the organization I discovered that they are not just for treating animals humanely but want animals to be equal to humans in every aspect. They see nothing wrong with animals running free in the streets unchecked and uncared for.
There is logic and reason and then their is the fringe groups. Please us critical thinking when looking at these groups. there is no one right answer.
1st; puppies and other animals are not human. 2nd; if we take it upon ourselves to raise these animals we have the4 duty to treat them with care. As a person that loves dogs and understands the duty I am morally bound to own one, I can see the treatment as being inhumane. But this is a much better example than ones I have seen in real life.
There may not be much room but there is some room and at least their waste is not on the floor for them to lay in.
@petphotog I looked at your website listed and it seems to be merely a propaganda piece from a PETA derived source. Some animals are harder to raise and even in the best circumstances, animals, like people die.
Your supporters holding sign fail to have any of the pets in question with them. Talk about being a hypocrite.
Also, treatment for animals is not as graceful and eloquent as with people. We cannot communicate. Baby birds do not have feathers for several weeks
@boy1belfast You perception of how they feel of act has nothing to do with the reality of the situation. a short 4 min video is not long enough to judge the emotional well being of an animal.
I honestly feel like most of you people have never been around animals before.
All those poor dogs have to have a microchips? So much for blue ribbon imo. Best to buy a puppy from a backyard breeder that doesnt abuse their dogs by putting microchips in them.
@YESSUREOK I know many pet owners that are quite grateful that their dogs had microchips in them or the family pet would be lost forever. Most rescue and adoption agencies will first search for a microchip to see if the owner can be found. after all tags can be taken off and dogs and cats cannot talk.
Anyone who would be okay with how these dogs are confined is clearly blind to how completely inhumane this is. Dogs go insane in cages. I DON'T CARE HOW STERILE THEY ARE!! Sure, being clean is a benefit, but you know what they say about polishing a turd? It's still a turd. And puppy mills/commercial breeding facilities are TURDS.
@Letmeoutandloveme I agree, no dogs need to live in such a condition. But the law in Missouri is being made to move to a "more humane" condition. This video is of one of the better ones. Imagine seeing the worse ones.
@franciswong12 Do not go to any place that breeds puppies. What you need to do is go on petfindercom and find a local adoption of rescue agency. There are already millions of goof healthy and happy pets waiting for you right now.
@franciswong12 Do not go to any place that breeds puppies. What you need to do is go on petfinder and find a local adoption of rescue agency. There are already millions of goof healthy and happy pets waiting for you right now.
Not to mention that these poor animals are subjected to living out their days in a cage popping out litter after litter all due to man's insatiable greed. It's sickening to see people profiting off of such misery. Humans are the most despicable creatures to ever walk the face of the planet.
@AChickenBoo I understand your point. the bitches have it worse since they are imprisoned for their reproductive lives. At least the puppies have a chance to escape the conditions and find a happy home.
I am a trainer/kennel owner, one dog in each twenty foot run, exercised/walked daily. This can't be a promotional video. Way too many puppies in each box, never exercised, I really wouldn't ever want to buy one one of these dogs, even though they all need to be saved. They give kennel owners a bad name.
I agree a woman who was a "breeder" where my mom lived sold my mom's bf a chihuahua puppy she had "papers" and he did not get to see the mom he had given the puppy to my mom, they found out she had a cleft and other health problems the vet had my mom give him the woman's info he had reported her to ASPCA and when they went to complain to the woman she was gone
This is supposed to be THE HIGEST STANDERDS AND THE BEST BREEDERS OF ALL MISSOURI???!!! WHAT ABOUT THE BREEDERS WHO LOVE THIER DOGS.? WHO LET THEIR DOGS LIVE IN THEIR HOUSE AND GIVE THEM ATTENTION EVERY DAY. WHAT ABOUT THE ONES WHO LOVE THIER DOGS LIKE THEY WERE HUMANS AND GIVE A DAMN WHERE THEIR PUPPIES ARE SOLD TO. These ARE NOT the best breeders in the state!!
Those kinds of people are not 'commercial breeders' under the law. To legally be certified as a commercial breeder, you cannot even keep your dogs or puppies in your house -- they HAVE to be in sterile kennels like this.
no, they're the highest standards for a USDA registered kennel. not "private" breeders, but people that sell their puppies to brokers (middle men), that in turn, sell them to pet stores. these big kennels are essentially, puppy mills, whether they're the highest standards or not, that's what they are. they're the "highest" standards in their industry. the dogs aren't pets or companions to the owners. they're livestock. their only purpose is to have puppies & make money for the kennel owners. :(
These are not people. They are dogs. They do not think about their futures etc and they are happy to raise babies. This kennel looks clean and the dogs all look healthy.
I disagree . You can clearly see there are to many dogs in one cage and the dogs do not look healthy or properly cared for .. Many look unkempt and very unhappy . How would you like to be kept in a wire cage 24/7 hours a day ?
This looks like a Dog Prison! anyone buying these dogs will buy it more out of compassion for the creatures and give them a life. Honestly, this is a sad. No wonder some places a re cursed...
You may not agree with this, but compared to so many other kennels.... this one is good quality.... the cages are clean, the dogs look healthy(even if they do need grooming) and theres id cards on every cage. they dont get awarded a blue ribbon for nothing....
a blue ribbon means nothing. the USDA doesn't have the man power to properly inspect kennels. they're supposed to get inspected several times a yr & sometimes, they're not looked at even once/yr. even for re-inspection of places that are sited. it just means that when the inspector came to the facility, it was clean that ONE time, that the owner knew the inspector was coming, so he cleaned it up. it doesn't mean that it's like that on a day-to-day basis & it probably isn't. it's a shame.
Also, some of the best dogs are "mutts"-they are known to have fewer health and behavior problems and are often smarter. Go shelter/breed rescue, not pet store/breeder next time.
Before you ask...yes, there are such breeders. I am privileged to be friends with several. But also remember, 25% of dogs in shelters (HHUS statistics) are purebred and many more are "designer breeds." These are good dogs who just need a second chance with someone who will appreciate them and love them for who they are.
Dont buy anything from Pharohs Elite Kennel they ripped me off and Linda from Arizona aka lilpups from myspace i made a site to clear the air so you dont have to take my word for it this is for the viewers (go to my page click) the link and see for yourself i posted all e-mails and documentation please be careful when buying over the net and do not be a victim like i was!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ok, then I guess no one should breed dogs. Is this what you all really want? Or is this just what PETA has you thinking. If PETA had their way, there would be no pets period. Get a clue and grow up. Do you really think these dogs have no human contact? Better watch the video again. These are not tormented wild dogs. A "good breeder" would not let you into their facility because you could bring in infections, virals, diseases, ect. If there were no dog breeders, there would be no rescues
You've got that wrong Rose. If there were no BAD dog breeders, there would be no rescues! And...those of us involved in rescue can't wait until there are no rescues -- we look forward to when we are all lose our jobs!!!
Only reputable breeders, who actively show and strive to better the breed, should be allowed to breed, in my opinion. Unfortunately, irresponsible breeders, who only breed to make profit and couldn't care less about the betterment of the breed, are a dime a dozen.
Your ignorance makes me laugh, really. What makes you think that these dogs are not tormented? What gives you that idea? You're the one who needs to get a clue, sweetie. You might want to work on being more empathetic, too.
Rosedelphinium the problem with the big puppy mills is these dogs spend their lives in cages. They are not treated as pets but rather a factory. I have watched some of the other videos and these dogs look healthy compared to the other videos I saw. The small breeder running it out of her home with a few dogs obviously wouldn't treat her dogs like this. Still however go to a shelter and you will find pure bred dogs are put down ever day because people buy rather than adopt.
While it is true if there were no dog breeders, there would be no rescues, people like me are working hard so that there do not have to be any rescues. This point will only be achieved when only responsible breeders breed and every animal has a loving home. A responsible breeder will allow you into their facility. If the mothers are vaccinated properly, there will not be much of a risk. A good breeder works only with 1-2 breeds and knows everything possible about those breeds.
PETA is pro-animal rights, meaning that animals are on the same level as humans. HHUS is pro-animal welfare, meaning that the animals deserve to be treated with dignity and to live a life free from pain, discomfort, and want. The problem with puppy mills comes with the high occurance of diseases and behavior problems. When the animals are not handled, they do not know how to react to people. Then they end up at shelters because of behavior problems.
Kennel cough and parvovirus are just some of the devastating effects that are notoriously rampant among puppy mill puppies. Ask anyone who has dealt with either disease and they will tell you just how bad it is. With simple education, one can see that puppy mills have no place. It is impossible to make any money when breeding well. Where does that money go? The stud fees are very expensive.
A good breeder does not just say you have a nice looking dog, and I have a nice looking dog, let's breed them together. It takes time and money to find the right match for your dog. You have to look at genetics, behavior and many other things. How do you know what dogs are good? A good breeder will show his/her dogs to prove to other breeders that he/she has a champion who could produce good dogs according to the breed specifications.
A good breeder will also know everything possible about his/her breed-diseases, behavior, lifespan, etc. He/She will also have an extensive knowledge of genetics. A good breeder will vaccinate and worm every puppy before adopting. A good breeder will also meet with prospective owners (a pet store is just a marketing tool for puppy mills) to evaluate their home and ability to give his/her dog the best home possible, which means travel fees.
@rosedelphinium Personally I thought that those were some good looking dogs.. Ive seen a LOT worse looking dogs than these running around in my neighbors yard.. LOOK UP THESE STATS... An estimated 85-90% of all dogs that end up in city pounds/are euthanized in the USA each year are the direct result of IRRESPONISBLE INDIVIDUALS.. And you should see some of the mud holes and ponds the FREE RANGE cows that you are so proud of drink from.. .
This is the "best" example of a puppy mill I've seen - and even then it is deplorable! I get a sick feeling in my stomach and tear well up in my eyes viewing this video. Again it is by far and away cleaner and better equipped than what I've previously seen, but America needs to do away with the "pet store" dog and cat trade! America needs a massive campaign about the proper way to acquire a pet. And if it seems expensive that way - GOOD! There are too many pets bred to die in this country!
@kelaltieri That goes for PetsMart and Petco too. Stay away from commercial pet stores! Petsmart cruelty dot com and petco sucks dot com are websites trying to spread the word. Boycott them as much as possible, and help increase awareness.
@poodlegirl4848 Poodlegirl. I am aware that Petsmat and petco both sell no dogs or cats. they work with local adoption agencies to let customers adopt the pets locally. I personally have donated $100s to them over the years.
@petphotog Boycott commercial pet stores for the mills they get their PETS from; meaning, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, etc. If you want to support animal rescues go directly TO the RESCUES or go to the rescues websites online and donate, rather than through PetsMart whom CONTRIBUTES to the problem by support mills of various pets.
This is an example of using living creatures for profit, with little regard for their well-being. DON'T buy from pet shops...if you must have a purebred dog, go to a reputable breeder or work with a breed rescue group.
A good breeder is okay. You want a a breeder who will bot breed more than 3 or 4 breeds. You should be able to see the parents of your dog. You should be able to visit where they live. Puppymills, those are another story, those are unexceptable.
Im very agianst these breeders but I will say something at least they give the dogs blankets and lil beds in those wire cages. So many I have seen before have wooden slats and wire bottoms with no relief for the dogs. Some of them have windows too and outside runs to provide the dogs a chance to breath fresh air. But with how many dogs being put to sleep, dog people need to stop breeding to we find the ones that are homeless homes first!!! STOP BREEDING WHO CARES ABOUT GETTING THE BEST OF BREED!
The government needs to improve the Animal Welfare Act. If dogs are stepping all over each other obviously there's not enough space. Plus, they need to actually enforce the damn laws and stop using our tax dollars to fund puppy brokers like Hunte Corporation. They are fueling a fire they are meant to put out. It's hypocrisy at it's finest. Bottom line... if they would actually enforce laws and apply fines they'd have the money to hire more inspectors. 120 inspectors is not nearly enough.
Although this is one of the 'cleaner' and better maintained puppy mills that I have seen, it is still wrong and I totally agree with mommie2drew. How would you like to be impregnated continuously until your uterus falls out or you die from lack of natural vitamins and minerals because your body is continually attempting to nurture your babies with no time for yourself to recooperate?
Ya know that nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. Did you actually watch this video?...Idiot
It is not a matter of the animals are clean and healthy. It is a matter of how they are living and treated. These are animals, they feel and have feelings. How would you like to be locked in a cage your whole life with no exercise, no feeling of grass under our feet, no option to run and play, only to used to breed. No love and affection what so ever shown to you. I know for a fact You would not want to live like these dogs are forced to.
In my opinion any kennel that does not train their dogs, and any kennel that breeds mutts(for no soecific purpose except to be cute) and any kennel that breeds any dog that has not had it's hip and eye tests is a bad kennel
ANYONE who keeps their animals in a CAGE regardless of size is wrong! Your pet is supposed to become a part of your family not a piece of property for display.God help you if you have children. Would you plant 100 fertilized eggs into your daughter and make her give birth to sextuplets month after month, year after year in a cage no less? You puppy mill people and you people who keep your animals caged constantly have no business owning animals.Animals deserve to run free by your side, period.
"cfreedom801" Some people buy these type of little dogs to be like the Hollywood bimbos who tote them around in a prissy purse as a fashion accessory. It might appear they are pampered but they often aren't potty trained, or ever taken out to run and play in the grass. Of course, there's the other extreme, where someone wants a pure bred dog but then puts it out tied up like a yard ornament!
Man, or humans, have MADE them self stand "taller" than other creauters. But still, we are the ones ruining the planet, killing for fun and RELIGION! And, if what you say is correct, then it is up to US to take PROPER care of them, NOT treat them like this!!!! Stupid fool!
This was an answer to the one hwo said that "man stands over animals according to the bible" ore something, by the way... Feel so sorry for those dogs... If this is a good kennel, according to the state in question, I do not want to know how a bad one looks!!!
In all seriousness, these cages wouldn't be proportionally large enough for a guinea pig if it were scaled to their size, let alone multiple dogs. Thanks for helping make people aware about these horrible practices.
jeez ppl sometimes you have to move dogs into other cages for cleaning that doesnt mean that they all live there permanently if those ppls whole operation is as clean as what i saw in this video then i say kudos to them for being responsible and by the way animals at the shelter are caged in the ecaxt same way dont believe everything you see ppl inhumane treatment is wrong no argument there are aloy of ppl that abuse these ppl seem to be doing it the right way
You seriously need to educate yourself about the federal animal welfare act. Yes, this is where they live their life. A cage 6" longer, taller and wider than the dog that lives inside....for LIFE!
I have read the act and those guidelines are set by the usda not the awa and noone said anything about small cages watch the video again those ppls cages are well over the guidelines i dont agree with the usda guidelines on cages i just dont like the fact thet anyone with a kennel is being labeled a puppymill i have over 100 dogs myself all of which are very well taken care of and im not a puppy mill
The guidelines are set by the USDA as mandated by the AWA, and as lobbied by dog farmers. Call yourself whatever you like, if you have 100 dogs, you are milling puppies. That's my opinion, and the opinion of most pet store customers.
(lazybones317) Dogs aren't meant to be kept in small cages and bread round the clock with no human contact besides getting fed and vetted. Just because a dog has a clean cage doesn't mean it's acceptable to live in that situation for life.
Did you not get the video or read the description? This is a puppy mill. Those dogs live in those cages for life. As for shelters...yea they kennel the dogs..neither environment is meant to be permanent.
How very sad that all of this is legal. What a joke the Blue Ribbon program is! I was looking at their inspection form on the website, and the space requirement says they have to "exceed" the minimum standards - by what? an inch? a foot? There is no definition so an enclosure 1" longer than what the state requires would qualify. Way to go MO - thanks for setting the bar so high!
Amen to that! Bet ya if they had to live like their animals are forced to, they would stop! May they be cursed with horrific pain to endure forever for what they have done to the innocent animals.
NSW Australia has just passed a law banning this type of breeding.
Only licensed breeders are allowed to breed and inspectors have the right to enter any premises that they feel is violating the law. offenders will be prosecuted.
It is hoped that type of legislation will eliminate puppy mills and backyard breeders.
These are licensed breeders that are inspected. It does not eliminate puppy mills, only those buying the puppies can eliminate puppy mills. NSW supplies all of the rabies free countries with puppies for their pet stores. Hawaii gets all of its puppies from NSW.
The legislation also states that adverts in newspapers etc must carry the breeders registration no. Ads cannot run for more than 6 days. Any registered breeder who vilates this will have his breeders license revoked.
It may not completely eliminate this practice, but it's a step in the right direction
That is WONDERFUL about the ads...I had always hoped for something like that here in the U.S. And I surely didn't mean to be negative, it is a step in the right direction. Australia has always been very advanced in its humane laws, but NSW tends to fall through the cracks.
I wonder why the Hunte Corp of Goodman MO hasn't been mentioned yet. Why do you think so many mills exist in MO? HUNTE!! The Governor of MO is doing the bidding of the Hunte Corp. He forwarded a grant to this "business" to upgrade AND EXPAND their facility to become the nation's top broker for mill dogs. That's all the HUNTE CORP does... buys cheap puppies, runs them through the paces at the company site, and ships them around the U.S. to every pet store that can buy 'em.
MO SUCKS when it comes to enforcing its own laws of acceptable animal husbandry. The Dept of AG is in the back pocket of the Gov and Hunte. So what ya gonna do!? Mills... a filthy business with lots of folks making money off of dogs and cats. REALLY Po'd about it too.
PS I've just responded with a clip of my own. This is Micah, came from a horrendous puppy mill, after a year of working with him, is still terrified most of the time. notice how he is so easy to bathe because he is in near "shut down" mode, paraylizing fear. check out my other clips of the 7 dogs I've been rehabbing that came with Micah from a Kansas puppy-mill. Mo is not alone. When we can't shut down the mills-let's expose, rehab, and find homes for the dogs they produce whenever we are able.
Ingenius, petshoppuppies! Using a puppy-mill portrayed as a kennel, and starting with the clip by showing the "higher-standard" of this elite place says more to the public than all the clips showing more pathetic practices (which of course are the norm)but beyond comprehension, overwhelming, leaving a more "helpless" feeling in the viewer. Good Job! Good Luck!
Thank you carolyn0! That's always been my theory of education. When we have thousands of USDA licensed kennels keeping dogs in "minimum standard" cages, why show the worst of the worst? Show the best of the best and leave people wondering what the rest of the places look like. I think on last count there were 7 blue ribbon kennels - after about 3 years of the program being in place. Only 7 out of 2000 licensed kennels in Missouri that are "in the top tier."
This is truly sad and horrible. The conditions these poor animals are living in as if they have no feelings or, their other needs are food and water. I'd like to see people who run this place put in a cage see how they like it. The only true way to put this people out of "business" is not buy a dog or puppy from a pet show, instead Adopt from your local rescue shelters. There are even Rescues groups devoted to certain pure breed dogs.
This is gross. Makes me want to puke. Look under the kennel--poop all over the place. I have worked for vets and it is NOT good on puppy legs to walk on wire.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
In this illegal video, it is against the law to take photographs of a kennel without the owners written permission first.
So tell me "Nut Case", who appointed you the "Dog Police"
Missouri does have a great kennel program it is the best in country if not the world. all facilities are inspected often and unlicensed kennels are shut down. What's it like in your state?
In closing I find your video misleading a is a trashy attempt to defame a respectable kennel. Shame on you!
Illegal? What law would that be? I'm in Missouri, so please let me know the RSMo for this so-called law.
So, Missouri has a great kennel program? That's what I'm doing--showing the best of the best so that America can see just how "wonderful" our kennel program is.
Let the public decide how respectable this kennel is? We've only showed the truth.
Respectable kennels give each of their babies a fighting chance in a world that can be especially cruel to poorly bred animals. Do they health check and temperament test all breeding stock, socialize each puppy, lead train it, begin to housebreak it, provide an unconditional guarantee or agree to take the dog back for any reason if need be? Do they teach these puppies how to love? DO NOT BUY PET SHOP PUPPIES and STOP THE NONSENSE!!!
To me the reason to forbid vidios of the kennels in Missouri is to hide their dirty secrets. There in nothing respectable about this kennel. Shame on you and shame on Missouri for allowing such abuse to the annimals in your state.
MO & other puppymill states (PA & KS come to mind) should try taking care of the unwanted and used dogs after they have spent many years living in "GREAT KENNELS".This is abuse any way you look at it. An animal that is forced to live its entire life in a cage, and given only food and water and bred over and over again until they are no longer good is suffering. Take a look at the sad eyes of these dogs. Dogs need human contact. This a GREEDY Business for GREEDY people
but i have a question....who cares if it they didnt get permission to take pictures? they are spreading the word! we need to end the suffereing and misery of all animals everywhere!
purchasing a puppy from a pet shop encourages this to continue. please don't fall for the hype, avoid pet shops that sell puppies, and share these videos with your friends and family. the best way to send the message is refusing to give these retailers your money.
"doplgangr" Yes, it is wrong to shop for a new pet at the mall, like looking for a new pair of shoes. There should be much more thought put into the ownership and lifelong commitment that's necessary to have an animal in your life. WAKE UP PEOPLE!
The "Show Me State" is NOT a disgrace! Yes, we have the most puppy mills here, but there are more people working harder than you would ever know, to stop these millers. There are more people who rescue and foster mill dogs than there are mills, which includes my family! There are more people that protest in front of pet stores and such to get this stopped. To look down your nose at the whole state of Missouri just simply shows your ignorance!
Yes, we have the puppy mills, but it is the pet stores states that keep puppy mills alive. We are powerless, when our own government is handing out "blue ribbons" to this filthy industry!
Here are the top pet store sales states--these five states make up over 50% of the puppy sales in pet stores. The blood of hundreds of thousands of dogs are on the hands of people that support these pet store states!
Awards for puppymills?? Are you kidding me?? Missouri, I must say your image is tarnished more and more every day by the puppymill industry.
I will do everything I can as a consumer to boycott your state until someone steps up to the plate and doing something about this insanity.
This proves to me that the deception is only increasing when a "blue ribbon" is given to these shit holes. On a positive note, I do see this as a sign of desperation by the puppymill industry.
If this is the "best" then I would sure hate to see the worst. The window of comparison becomes quite obvious when a place like this is given "awards" by the Missouri Dept of Ag. How very sad and how very deceptive.
@sirgarruovl Mutts have less health problems because there is more genetic diversity amongst them. It has nothing to do with proper evaluation of their breeds and whatnot.

YESSUREOK 1 year ago 2
Like many of you animals lovers, I once was a follower of what PETA does. But as I went more and more into the organization I discovered that they are not just for treating animals humanely but want animals to be equal to humans in every aspect. They see nothing wrong with animals running free in the streets unchecked and uncared for.
There is logic and reason and then their is the fringe groups. Please us critical thinking when looking at these groups. there is no one right answer.
petphotog 1 year ago
1st; puppies and other animals are not human. 2nd; if we take it upon ourselves to raise these animals we have the4 duty to treat them with care. As a person that loves dogs and understands the duty I am morally bound to own one, I can see the treatment as being inhumane. But this is a much better example than ones I have seen in real life.
There may not be much room but there is some room and at least their waste is not on the floor for them to lay in.
petphotog 1 year ago
@petphotog I looked at your website listed and it seems to be merely a propaganda piece from a PETA derived source. Some animals are harder to raise and even in the best circumstances, animals, like people die.
Your supporters holding sign fail to have any of the pets in question with them. Talk about being a hypocrite.
Also, treatment for animals is not as graceful and eloquent as with people. We cannot communicate. Baby birds do not have feathers for several weeks

boy1belfast 1 year ago
@boy1belfast You perception of how they feel of act has nothing to do with the reality of the situation. a short 4 min video is not long enough to judge the emotional well being of an animal.
I honestly feel like most of you people have never been around animals before.

All those poor dogs have to have a microchips? So much for blue ribbon imo. Best to buy a puppy from a backyard breeder that doesnt abuse their dogs by putting microchips in them.
YESSUREOK 1 year ago
I will say the kennel is extra clean and very nice looking dogs !! Kudos for having a beautiful place !
YESSUREOK 1 year ago
@YESSUREOK I know many pet owners that are quite grateful that their dogs had microchips in them or the family pet would be lost forever. Most rescue and adoption agencies will first search for a microchip to see if the owner can be found. after all tags can be taken off and dogs and cats cannot talk.
petphotog 1 year ago
Anyone who would be okay with how these dogs are confined is clearly blind to how completely inhumane this is. Dogs go insane in cages. I DON'T CARE HOW STERILE THEY ARE!! Sure, being clean is a benefit, but you know what they say about polishing a turd? It's still a turd. And puppy mills/commercial breeding facilities are TURDS.

These ARE NOT the best breeders in the state!!
gut197 2 years ago 3
Those kinds of people are not 'commercial breeders' under the law. To legally be certified as a commercial breeder, you cannot even keep your dogs or puppies in your house -- they HAVE to be in sterile kennels like this.
Rietto 2 years ago 2
no, they're the highest standards for a USDA registered kennel. not "private" breeders, but people that sell their puppies to brokers (middle men), that in turn, sell them to pet stores. these big kennels are essentially, puppy mills, whether they're the highest standards or not, that's what they are. they're the "highest" standards in their industry. the dogs aren't pets or companions to the owners. they're livestock. their only purpose is to have puppies & make money for the kennel owners. :(

No animal that is supposed to spend it's life in a person's home should be raised in isolation in a tiny box, even if it's a clean and warm tiny box.
Raising dogs like that produces puppies that are emotionally and behaviorally stunted.

a blue ribbon means nothing. the USDA doesn't have the man power to properly inspect kennels. they're supposed to get inspected several times a yr & sometimes, they're not looked at even once/yr. even for re-inspection of places that are sited. it just means that when the inspector came to the facility, it was clean that ONE time, that the owner knew the inspector was coming, so he cleaned it up. it doesn't mean that it's like that on a day-to-day basis & it probably isn't. it's a shame.

ok, then I guess no one should breed dogs. If there were no dog breeders, there would be no rescues
rosedelphinium 3 years ago

PetShopPuppies 3 years ago 8
Only reputable breeders, who actively show and strive to better the breed, should be allowed to breed, in my opinion. Unfortunately, irresponsible breeders, who only breed to make profit and couldn't care less about the betterment of the breed, are a dime a dozen.
Your ignorance makes me laugh, really. What makes you think that these dogs are not tormented? What gives you that idea? You're the one who needs to get a clue, sweetie. You might want to work on being more empathetic, too.
shmurfling 3 years ago
Rosedelphinium the problem with the big puppy mills is these dogs spend their lives in cages. They are not treated as pets but rather a factory. I have watched some of the other videos and these dogs look healthy compared to the other videos I saw. The small breeder running it out of her home with a few dogs obviously wouldn't treat her dogs like this. Still however go to a shelter and you will find pure bred dogs are put down ever day because people buy rather than adopt.
HappyCabbie 3 years ago 2
While it is true if there were no dog breeders, there would be no rescues, people like me are working hard so that there do not have to be any rescues. This point will only be achieved when only responsible breeders breed and every animal has a loving home. A responsible breeder will allow you into their facility. If the mothers are vaccinated properly, there will not be much of a risk. A good breeder works only with 1-2 breeds and knows everything possible about those breeds.
cowdoc3 3 years ago
PETA is pro-animal rights, meaning that animals are on the same level as humans. HHUS is pro-animal welfare, meaning that the animals deserve to be treated with dignity and to live a life free from pain, discomfort, and want. The problem with puppy mills comes with the high occurance of diseases and behavior problems. When the animals are not handled, they do not know how to react to people. Then they end up at shelters because of behavior problems.
cowdoc3 3 years ago
@cowdoc3 HSUS is not pro animal welfare, they are pro getting rid of all animals...and want everyone to be vegans..
sirgarruovl 1 year ago
Kennel cough and parvovirus are just some of the devastating effects that are notoriously rampant among puppy mill puppies. Ask anyone who has dealt with either disease and they will tell you just how bad it is. With simple education, one can see that puppy mills have no place. It is impossible to make any money when breeding well. Where does that money go? The stud fees are very expensive.
cowdoc3 3 years ago
A good breeder does not just say you have a nice looking dog, and I have a nice looking dog, let's breed them together. It takes time and money to find the right match for your dog. You have to look at genetics, behavior and many other things. How do you know what dogs are good? A good breeder will show his/her dogs to prove to other breeders that he/she has a champion who could produce good dogs according to the breed specifications.
cowdoc3 3 years ago
A good breeder will also know everything possible about his/her breed-diseases, behavior, lifespan, etc. He/She will also have an extensive knowledge of genetics. A good breeder will vaccinate and worm every puppy before adopting. A good breeder will also meet with prospective owners (a pet store is just a marketing tool for puppy mills) to evaluate their home and ability to give his/her dog the best home possible, which means travel fees.
cowdoc3 3 years ago
@rosedelphinium Personally I thought that those were some good looking dogs.. Ive seen a LOT worse looking dogs than these running around in my neighbors yard.. LOOK UP THESE STATS... An estimated 85-90% of all dogs that end up in city pounds/are euthanized in the USA each year are the direct result of IRRESPONISBLE INDIVIDUALS..

@petphotog Boycott commercial pet stores for the mills they get their PETS from; meaning, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, etc. If you want to support animal rescues go directly TO the RESCUES or go to the rescues websites online and donate, rather than through PetsMart whom CONTRIBUTES to the problem by support mills of various pets.
poodlegirl4848 1 year ago 3

Plus, they need to actually enforce the damn laws and stop using our tax dollars to fund puppy brokers like Hunte Corporation. They are fueling a fire they are meant to put out. It's hypocrisy at it's finest. Bottom line... if they would actually enforce laws and apply fines they'd have the money to hire more inspectors. 120 inspectors is not nearly enough.

Okky22 4 years ago
These are licensed breeders that are inspected. It does not eliminate puppy mills, only those buying the puppies can eliminate puppy mills. NSW supplies all of the rabies free countries with puppies for their pet stores. Hawaii gets all of its puppies from NSW.
PetShopPuppies 4 years ago
The legislation also states that adverts in newspapers etc must carry the breeders registration no. Ads cannot run for more than 6 days. Any registered breeder who vilates this will have his breeders license revoked.
It may not completely eliminate this practice, but it's a step in the right direction
Okky22 4 years ago

When we can't shut down the mills-let's expose, rehab, and find homes for the dogs they produce whenever we are able.
carolyn0 4 years ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
In this illegal video, it is against the law to take photographs of a kennel without the owners written permission first.

The people that do this to animals... have a special place in hell

To look down your nose at the whole state of Missouri just simply shows your ignorance!
kelangel28 4 years ago 2
Yes, we have the puppy mills, but it is the pet stores states that keep puppy mills alive. We are powerless, when our own government is handing out "blue ribbons" to this filthy industry!
Here are the top pet store sales states--these five states make up over 50% of the puppy sales in pet stores. The blood of hundreds of thousands of dogs are on the hands of people that support these pet store states!
CA 6%
PA 6%
IL 7%
NJ 8%
NY 11%
FL 13%

Missouri is the puppy mill capital of the country. Pennsylvania came in a close second, but the new governor is taking actions to close them down.

As they should. All puppy mills should be shut down !

If that's a kennel, I'm a horses ass. Missouri must be proud giving Blue Ribbon status to a puppy mill...

it sickens me to see dogs treated like this. if i ever see someone from one of those places i swear to god.....

If this is the "best" then I would sure hate to see the worst. The window of comparison becomes quite obvious when a place like this is given "awards" by the Missouri Dept of Ag. How very sad and how very deceptive.
