Reminds me of apologists for Wall Street who've been taking it up the rear for years as Wall Street steals their 401k and steals so much money from American companies that our economy has moved to China, yet these Wall Street apologists just bend over and say "Thank you sir may I have another?" and complain when anybody tries to do anything about the rampant FRAUD that is Wall Street. The hazing on college sports teams are much worse. With fraternities these days (under a very watchful eye... all for the better in my opinion) people realize that you shouldn't be a A*hole to the people you plan on living with for the next four years.

@trwent People do all sorts of crazy stuff. I heard of this one fraternity that had built an electric chair that was connected to one of those transformers they use with toy trains. They would strap their really scared pledges into the chair and then ask them questions such as "do you love us?" and the pledge would be like, "yes! I love everyone!" and then they would say "So you love my girlfriend?" and no matter what the pledge would mess up and get electric shocks.

The best hazing I ever saw was at a neighbouring frat house. This skinny guy was hung upside down from his feet over the bath with hands tied behind his back & head and shoulders submerged. Of course he could breathe, but only by increasingly painful and fatiguing contortions.

He was like that for over an hour & was conviced he was going to die!

Very few. most college campuses have completely cracked down on hazing. Hazing still happens, but actual paddling and physical hazing is pretty much a thing of the past.

You said the prisoners in Gitmo are treated better. I named two reasons why they are not treated better. They were detained and charged with a crime, yet they're just now seeing their trials come underway almost 8 years later. This would not and should not happen to anyone, citizen or not.

Sure, but what I was referring to was the actual treatment of the detainees. I meant their health, their privileges, and their general experience as detainees are humane as compared to experiences our homegrown criminals may experience in a US prison.

On the one hand you're making the argument that our prisoners are treated poorly compared to them, but that doesn't even lend credence to your claim that there was no torture taking place. It is beside the point.

I saw Kevin Bacon being interviewed on a TV special about the making of this movie. He said that for the paddling scene, John Landis told him not to worry, it would be 3 or 4 whacks and they wouldn't be very hard. So he didnt wear any extra paddling or extra pair of underpants. He said once it started they had to do retake after retake and it mounted up to 30 or 40 smacks, at least. He said his butt was very red and sore!

Also, Director John Landis kept the members of the 2 fraternities housed separately in different motels during shooting so they couldn't become friendly and associate with each other except while filming. This was to foster the mutual dislike and sense of competition between the 2 groups.
