I totally agree with you, I often wonder why people dislike such great videos etc, however they may not have liked the sound track, they might not have liked the camera angles if they were prof photographers, they may not have like the fact that the guy was touching the statues, something in Rapa Nui (Easter Is) that it is forbidden to do, or at least according to all the guide books and the trourist guides etc. I visited in 2005 for 5 days and hada great time, but did not touch
@MimicofaMind I think it's because the video seems a bit wet, if you know what I mean. Just the way the guy goes around those heads, staring up at them with pertinent wonder and touching them with silent awe. Sure its probably a natural reaction when faced with objects of such spiritual history, but when you film yourself doing it, add an atmospheric backing track, and bring in elements like slow motion and fades to and from white, then it can look a little cheesy and pretentious.
That' cool how you got the shot as the same as that one famous picture. Thoughs are HUGE from what I imagen!!! This must have been one EPIC journey, oh how jealous I am! Oh yeah, gee... but I wonder if the immature people who make up the Chilean tourist board would let the "reciprocity fee" slide for Spanish-speaking Americans? I bet you it would. Now, anyone more intelligent and knowledgeable than "RinoConSombrero" want to tell me why exactly Americans and Australians ONLY are charged a "reciprocity fee" to visit the island, other than because they simply don't like us for bullshit reasons, even though we do nothing but favors for Spanish-speakers?
This may just be my opinion, but I honestly believe the ones who built those impressive statues are the same ones who also built Machu Picchu and designed the so-called Nazca Lines in Peru. What they all have in common, is that NO ONE to this very day have a clue on how they were made. Makes you wonder for a moment, huh? Hmmm...

worse still to be unstable peru to attack and kill tourists every year (8 persons in 2008) in contrast to Chile which has better conditions
Fuck this island. Chile charges a shady "reciprocity fee" of $50 to Americans from the US and Australians. What exactly is a "reciprocity fee" and why are we the only ones in the world that have to pay it? We take these people into our country and give them free everything while we get screwed for it, and they have the nerve to charge us a fee just because we're Americans? What's the big idea? "Reciprocity", I get it. It means "Hey, we're faggots. We hate Americans and we just want their money."

Hey, why don't you shut your fucking mouth you Spanish piece of shit. You run around saying Americans are ignorant? ok this video would be som much better if it wrent fake what a minute and 36 seconds and the clouds dont move at all plus ive seen that picture its nothing more than a very impressive fake!!!
the world would be so much better if there werent boneheads like you! scroll through the video quickly and you will see the clouds move! was there in may 1997. i edited out some of the walking time around the statues to sync with the music. geez people are so easily fooled!!!
The statues are fascinating, but there is a sobering history behind them. It is a story of the civilization that built them, but destroyed itself through reckless misuse of its environment. Some may see in that story a parallel to what we are doing to our own world. A five-minute music video that can be visited by clicking on the link to my site recounts the story of the Polynesian tribes who settled Easter Island.
The moai are representations of Viracocha who was stationed with his followers (birdmen)on another island off shore called Mot. It is from this direction for the reason why it faces inward. He also ruled Machu Piccuhu and there are massive stoneworks of similar size and dimensions on Easter island. He can here around 11,000 BC, was a cruel person who demmanded human sacrifices.
There are 887 statues placed around Easter Island. The 888th statue is about 69ft in height. Easter=The resurrection of Jesus Christ.
May I here invite Truthseekers to look into my video favourites.
*JESUS 888. In Greek Gematria.
*JESUS. Conceived 11th September 3BC. Born 17th June 2BC. Star of Bethlehem was conjunction of Jupiter & Venus. Jupiter 88,800 Miles diameter. Brian was 888 days old 17th June 1946, and is here proving who he is. Love and Peace.
The statues were indeed carved by the Easter Islanders who were of 100% Polynesian stock. Although dates may vary depending on the source, nearly all of the statues on the island were carved between 800 AD - 1500 AD. The statues represent tribal ancestors and were intended to pass-on special powers called mata from the ancestors to the living. The statues in my video were abandoned before completion due to resource competition collapsing the island's social structure into warfare.
would love to visit Easter island one day, i first became familiar with the name Easter island when i was a teenager, i liked a band called The Specials they used a trombone player named Rico Rodriguez and he released a solo album called "Easter Island" i then saw a TV programme about it and have been very interested ever since!!!!!!!! hope that didnt bore you too much,, thanks for posting.
For more information on Easter Island visit the Bradshaw Foundation website and see the Easter Island section, the website also contains a Documentary Film on Easter Island Statues and Rock Art found in the iLectures section.
well people have different tourist "needs" so thats wy the world has so many different places to vist, if everything were the same will be boring...I invite everybody to visit Machu Picchu! beutiful place...
I agree, the statue of liberty to me isnt a world wonder, I find Eastern Island lovely, and I'll like to visit it after this contest I learn a bit about every atraction so I think this contest for all finalist was positive ... in the end
its ur point of view and I respect it, however, I feel that the contest was democratic, it has 2 YEARS since people started voting in this contest and this election is for atractions that people visited or people WOULD LIKE to vist, the photos and information for the 20 finalst were posted on website so people could choose what they wanted!
i do not appreciate or support the unfriendly comments being exchanged between the peruvian and chilean guests here. easter island and machu picchu are both extraordinary places and have equal merit. the new 7 wonders voting means absolutely nothing - especially to UNESCO who recognizes both of these places as historic, special, and worth preserving.
UNESCO either recognized the old 7 wonders and they are world famous nowadays despite most of them dont exist anymore, I think u shouldn't say it doesnt mean nothing, it means a lot for our Tourism and the wholeeeeeeeeee world voted and the ONU supported this...I think that being recognize like this, its awsome!!! but for all of us MachuPicchu has been always been a world wonder! with or without the title given by this democratic contest...kausachun MachuPicchu!
i'm afraid that you have your facts about UNESCO mixed up. they only recognize 1 of the orginal 7 wonders. the 7 new wonders vote was not "democratic". government offices in bigger tourist countries promoted votes (to generate tourist dollars) which skewed results and people in very poor countries like cambodia could not vote for their own incredible angkor wat temple because of extremely limited internet access. the new 7 wonders should be decided by international experts.
bigger tourist countries...so why Paris (number one top destiny) and Spain werent in the top 7? ah? u talk about poor countries...hello? Peru..people in highlands...most of the natural people there doesnt have access to Internet...but still they tried to vote for MachuPicchu...I'm pretty sure wont say this if satern Isalnd were in the top 7...visiten Machu Picchu!!!
countries such as peru, mexico, jordan, brazil, and others who's economy depends heavily on foreign tourism dollars aggressively promoted the new 7 wonders to their public knowing that a winner will pump millions of tourist dollars into the economy. although peru is not a rich country it is far more developed than cambodia and with almost twice as many people as chile. i also voted for machu picchu.
the govermenet did promote the campain and put cyber cafes on the ruins, and also on school for people to vote, though I have seen the same campain done in Chile, with Mrs Bachelet, and tv channles as tvn and tv chile and others channels,
"In the fabled Incan capital of Cuzco, Peru, Internet cafes reportedly had been full for weeks with supporters clicking their votes for the nearby majestic ruins of Machu Picchu."
"In developing countries where the Internet is taking off, such as China, millions of people enthusiastically cast votes for their favorite monuments. Since the Great Wall was one of the candidates (and a winner), it was an easy guess just where most of those votes went."
so the promotion was almost the same...I dont think u should make this contest looks not democratic, the whole world voted, not only the 20 countries in this contest...we PROMOTED the vote on INTERENT (pick up 7 wonders) not as in Chile were u promoted most the text message (only vote for one alternative to not to give option to other countries)
I think that the other 14 attractions will also have promotion, so its not the END OF THE WORLD,tourist all over the world voted and for countries as Spain and France and USA, will be always in the top 10 tourist destination cause people will always be interested in travel to those places, they are not in the new 7 wonders but it doesnt mean they will have less tourist...
as an american, i did not vote for the statue of liberty as i did not believe it is as "wonderous" as others on the list. the statue is not a big deal for the US economy as there are literally hundreds of other famous tourist attractions in the US. the same can be said of the eiffel tower in france. the point is that political lobbying, internet access, and economics influenced the results, not the merit of the nominated sites.
Sorry to hear that monocrater. I've fallen in love with the Easter Islands and i've never even been there. I'm hardly likely to go there either if it's really 2,500 miles away from the nearest coast. Maybe one day, if even just to see those magnificent statues with my own eyes.
thank you all for your comments on my video and for voting easter island for one of the 7 new wonders. i am profoundly disappointed with the results of the voting. the final list is a joke! to choose christ the redeemer in brazil and mexico's chichen itza pyramid over such wonders as easter island and angkor wat is shameful. this was not an honest vote because tourism offices in some countries lobbied votes. shameful!
I agree with u, the christ redeemer was a huge surprise for us in Peru but I'm glad the statue of Liberty didnt win...anyways I still thinking Eastern Island are nice and has something magic...I invite everybody to visit my beutiful MachuPicchu..its awsome!
Great video and very informative posts from "ADEentertainment" but you should use the word tribe or whatever when referring to the inhabitants of the island. Clan is a Scottish word and that is the only place on earth where the clan system existed. Sorry it's a pet hate of mine. It seems we have got clans everywhere these days, Iraq, Afghanistan, you name it.
So Miraculous. I would like to visit there. It shapes my interests.

Easter island looks like a pritty creepy place. like to check it out some time.

anybody know the reason why the faces face the opposite direction of the ocean?
indusrtial 4 years ago
The statues were made by the Easter Islanders to worship their ancestors, it would not make any sense to have them face the ocean.
monocrater 4 years ago

The statues in my video were abandoned before completion due to resource competition collapsing the island's social structure into warfare.

well people have different tourist "needs" so thats wy the world has so many different places to vist, if everything were the same will be boring...I invite everybody to visit Machu Picchu! beutiful place...
mariainkaika 4 years ago
I agree, the statue of liberty to me isnt a world wonder, I find Eastern Island lovely, and I'll like to visit it after this contest I learn a bit about every atraction so I think this contest for all finalist was positive ... in the end
mariainkaika 4 years ago
its ur point of view and I respect it, however, I feel that the contest was democratic, it has 2 YEARS since people started voting in this contest and this election is for atractions that people visited or people WOULD LIKE to vist, the photos and information for the 20 finalst were posted on website so people could choose what they wanted!

i do not appreciate or support the unfriendly comments being exchanged between the peruvian and chilean guests here. easter island and machu picchu are both extraordinary places and have equal merit. the new 7 wonders voting means absolutely nothing - especially to UNESCO who recognizes both of these places as historic, special, and worth preserving.
monocrater 4 years ago
UNESCO either recognized the old 7 wonders and they are world famous nowadays despite most of them dont exist anymore, I think u shouldn't say it doesnt mean nothing, it means a lot for our Tourism and the wholeeeeeeeeee world voted and the ONU supported this...I think that being recognize like this, its awsome!!! but for all of us MachuPicchu has been always been a world wonder! with or without the title given by this democratic contest...kausachun MachuPicchu!
mariainkaika 4 years ago
i'm afraid that you have your facts about UNESCO mixed up. they only recognize 1 of the orginal 7 wonders. the 7 new wonders vote was not "democratic". government offices in bigger tourist countries promoted votes (to generate tourist dollars) which skewed results and people in very poor countries like cambodia could not vote for their own incredible angkor wat temple because of extremely limited internet access. the new 7 wonders should be decided by international experts.
monocrater 4 years ago
bigger tourist countries...so why Paris (number one top destiny) and Spain werent in the top 7? ah? u talk about poor countries...hello? Peru..people in highlands...most of the natural people there doesnt have access to Internet...but still they tried to vote for MachuPicchu...I'm pretty sure wont say this if satern Isalnd were in the top 7...visiten Machu Picchu!!!
mariainkaika 4 years ago
countries such as peru, mexico, jordan, brazil, and others who's economy depends heavily on foreign tourism dollars aggressively promoted the new 7 wonders to their public knowing that a winner will pump millions of tourist dollars into the economy. although peru is not a rich country it is far more developed than cambodia and with almost twice as many people as chile. i also voted for machu picchu.
monocrater 4 years ago
the govermenet did promote the campain and put cyber cafes on the ruins, and also on school for people to vote, though I have seen the same campain done in Chile, with Mrs Bachelet, and tv channles as tvn and tv chile and others channels,
mariainkaika 4 years ago
from the Los Angeles Times news:
"In the fabled Incan capital of Cuzco, Peru, Internet cafes reportedly had been full for weeks with supporters clicking their votes for the nearby majestic ruins of Machu Picchu."
monocrater 4 years ago
another from the Los Angeles Times:
"In developing countries where the Internet is taking off, such as China, millions of people enthusiastically cast votes for their favorite monuments. Since the Great Wall was one of the candidates (and a winner), it was an easy guess just where most of those votes went."
monocrater 4 years ago
and another:
"In Jordan, Queen Rania lobbied (successfully) on behalf of the ancient red-stoned desert city of Petra."
monocrater 4 years ago
so the promotion was almost the same...I dont think u should make this contest looks not democratic, the whole world voted, not only the 20 countries in this contest...we PROMOTED the vote on INTERENT (pick up 7 wonders) not as in Chile were u promoted most the text message (only vote for one alternative to not to give option to other countries)
mariainkaika 4 years ago
I think that the other 14 attractions will also have promotion, so its not the END OF THE WORLD,tourist all over the world voted and for countries as Spain and France and USA, will be always in the top 10 tourist destination cause people will always be interested in travel to those places, they are not in the new 7 wonders but it doesnt mean they will have less tourist...
mariainkaika 4 years ago
as an american, i did not vote for the statue of liberty as i did not believe it is as "wonderous" as others on the list. the statue is not a big deal for the US economy as there are literally hundreds of other famous tourist attractions in the US. the same can be said of the eiffel tower in france. the point is that political lobbying, internet access, and economics influenced the results, not the merit of the nominated sites.
monocrater 4 years ago

Sorry to hear that monocrater. I've fallen in love with the Easter Islands and i've never even been there. I'm hardly likely to go there either if it's really 2,500 miles away from the nearest coast. Maybe one day, if even just to see those magnificent statues with my own eyes.
Islandretreat 4 years ago
thank you all for your comments on my video and for voting easter island for one of the 7 new wonders. i am profoundly disappointed with the results of the voting. the final list is a joke! to choose christ the redeemer in brazil and mexico's chichen itza pyramid over such wonders as easter island and angkor wat is shameful. this was not an honest vote because tourism offices in some countries lobbied votes. shameful!
monocrater 4 years ago
