I'm a white female+find racism quite sad+unfortunately continues 2day.U'd think people wud just stop all this nonsense and move on but no.I notice it more so in the older generation. People are ignorant! I have listened 2 white people talk about black people in bad ways and black people talk about white people in bad ways, it goes both ways and its sad. There will always be conflict, no matter what, it's just gotten so deep.In fact the more people talk about it, the more it will be. :-(
@niccidoodles Usually when anyone speaks badly about a white person or about "white people", it is defensively, as a result of seeing or experiencing white people perpetuating anti-black or anti-people-of-color attitudes and behavior. More often than not, if a black person is denigrating someone or some race, he/she is denigrating blacks or blackness. Racism=white superiority, which is offensive. Anti-whiteness is defensive, a defense mechanism.
@TeachTheWorldToThink Sure, although you don't have to try and enlighten me, we could talk and talk about this until the cows come home but i won't my point is just that people dwell on the past.
Ahhhh you nailed it with every word :) im currently suffering from this problem except not with race but with my religion. I have came across many people who ARE intelligent and have much qualifications, but have researched little about my faith yet they have the audacity to scoff at it. Like you said, the amount of qualifications does not predetermine open-mindedness to new things. It's a shame that ignorance and arrogance can easily override intelligence and common sense.
As a black man from Jamaica I am very frustrated with the low opinion Black Americans have of themselves. A black man once asked me what is a nigger doing in the sea? after finding out I was a certified Scuba diver. I can tell you I was taken aback. Growing up in Jamaica the only divers I knew were black and that Is just one example. I could go on about their dating of whites thinking some how that spells success I should know my wife is Black American and her brothers only date white women.
An ex of mine (black American male) and I ran into one another one day. He asked me what I've been up to lately. I told him I'm about to travel to Ghana. He laughed and asked smugly, "Ghana? What the hell is in Ghana?" He used to live in Central America and was married to an El Salvadoran woman, and thought that somehow increased his personal stock. Many African Americans are pathetic with the inferiority complex.

@anglodansk bcuz americans allowed race to dictate social status for hundreds of yrs. during slavery, it was house n*gger vs. field n*gger. after slavery in the early 1900s it was light skinned=educated, dark skinned=sharecropper. who can pass & who can't, to get the same opportunities as whites.
race & skintone has always played a huge role in the way americans view & treat each other. that kind of history doesn't just evaporate in a few generations.
wow I'm late on this vid:) There is definitely a difference when a black person carries themselves with respect and confidence. I can care less racism from other cultures. What disappointed me the most is the racism I've experienced from my own race! I've been told that I would be more "desirable" if my skin was lighter etc. But at the end of the day, the fact that I am confident and possess self respect, people, no matter the race, in turn respects me, and that's all I ask for. But I def agree
what is wrong with you boys!!! its like when a pretty woman gets in your face all lack of intelligence goes out of the window. You look so dumb and all that you could offer is how pretty she is. Pathetic..
hollywood has to change. I dont think that any blk woman should have a prob dating outside her race. I never did. I agree with Tyra when she said shes looking n the wrong places.there r a lot of interracial dating sites that'll help her. Its very sad that there is racistism still going on in this day and time. But i do agree with one of the comments said under this video that some ppl r very foolish and dont care about fighting the sterotype but instead embrace it and ruins stuff 4 the rest ofus
Wow thankyou so much! i really enjoyed this video. I am a proud african american woman (22y/0) who dates interracially all the time. My sister is the same way. Me and my family dont fit the sterotype at all, we dont speak slang or anything. It is hard always seeing movies and tv shows that have no main blk charactors. Its like every movie with a hero always has to be white. Or every tv show is given to a blonde hair blue eyes person. And the blck charactor always has to have a thugish/attitude.
@Crystalroselove you are so right. There are some college educated people that will hold on to ignorant, socially intolerant, negative views of other races. It is sad that people have to have negative perceptions. I know I was engaged to a person with narrow minded stereotypes of not just black people but latino people and other cultures.
I agree with the man a few post behind me about BET. I am British but i know of BET and i hate how on MTV the majoirty of black people are shown being rappers or with women dancing around in little clothes. Its hard for me bc then i find that people sometimes stereotype young black women as being easy. just upsets me sometimes.
I mean the world is full of beautiful women but most of them only have opinions on things like make up and hair and how good looking movie stars and pop stars are. Its nice to come across one with opinion on something other than vanity.
Wow and your extremely articulate and Intelligent. Sincere and intelligent women with very informed opinions on subjects such as these are very rare these days.
Your positive intent is appreciated however remember any and all points of perception are narrow even your points of where you think racism comes from is only a point to the whole. Careful of your presumptions. I am also trying to figure which audience you are speak to. Are trying to teach a class or what. In the beginning you said you try to make it quick boy you love to talk dont you. Your so funny. So do you have a some counciling degree or what. No the video was not quick but nice.
there is nothing better than hearing a beautiful black woman talk intelligently, my heart just melts,..... i get tired of hearing black women where every other word is vulgar or profane
It's really not people that hold all of these views. if you really want to you can narrow it down to just white people and their views. I lived in a multiracial enviornment. This is very rare in America. We have some Asians, blacks, latinos, and a two middle eastern families. Sure, we noticed one another's cultural differences but there was minimum friction. It's only when you add white people or whitewashed people into the equation is when the friction comes.
I am in an interracial relationship in Trinidad in the Caribbean I had a baby and ppl were taking bets on the colour of my child...she came out very fair and i am DARK for the first six mths of her life everyone watched her to see if she would change...she didn't ppl asked me if i was the nanny when I take her out I felt horrible and I wanted to be different I then after having natural hair for my entire life straightened it and was looking at ways to change my look
I am really confused about your point you ask ' is it really hard for a black woman?'..to which you answer no and then follow it by saying that you love being a black woman you love the way god made you...then you talk about the hurdles that you obviously see as we all do. I did not see the Tyra show but i am sure the lady on it did not say she was not happy to be a black woman, loving ourselves is not the issue right? quite sure the lady was just highlighting the obstacles she has encountered.
If you didn't see the episode, then how would you know what the woman said. I watched the show and she IN FACT made it clear that she did NOT LIKE being Black. You can probably find clips from the show on youtube.
egyptians were black people why do think that theres so much racism on the black man even blacks basically built the american country and fought in all its wars segragated
The only thing i disliked about the show, was the white female guest that was representing the white people. She seemed to be extra offended by any comment or question about whites, and made racial comments towards black people constantly. She also couldn't just answer the questions without bashing black people in the process....
Now that lady was the only racist on that show
all of the questioners were honest and interesting...just tyra's white representing guest bothered me
to deep star... actually altho the media may portray that about black ppl they are many successful ones jus like in the white community where they are some bad ones and some gud ones..... so dont come to that conclusion cause in modern times we are becoming on the same level thus, take note that all races have gud ppl and bad ppl it is all about how they were raised no matter the race
I love where you are coming from with this video. I find that people manifest what they believe. So, I agree with you when you say "you need to define yourself for yourself".
@Deepstarr7020, We do not victimize ourselves, we have a harder time because of the fact that mainstream media is usually ran by Caucasian elderly men. They feel in order to stay in power, they bring you networks such as BET and shows such as Flava flav and what have you....you should not generalize...you don't know ALL peoples of African descent, therefore it is pretty hard to judge....for me to say that all white people are racist would be a major generalization.
Both whites and blacks victamize themselves and so far as playing a slave card. Thats no game thats true these things have happened and still do on many levels.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm sick of black people always saying if you think poorly of them you have an " ignorant mind set" as if blacks don't make themselves look bad in the media . Most people have observed black culture and there are things they just don't like .
as a black man, i very much agree with you to an extent, BET adds fuel to the fire, so does the music industry, I don't care how many thumbs down I get for this. Other black people are helping to make us and themselves look very foolish. Why can't BET show more black doctors, black engineers, black teachers, etc. It's as if all we can do is become athletes and entertainers.
Unfortunately i do not think that we black can truly complain about stereotypes when we continue to be all to happy to perpetuate them. I agree with you DaMostEnigmatic 100%. I also think celebs like Tyra and michael jackson and beyonce are part of the problem. They send the message that as soon as we have the means or have achieved success we will try our best to look less black - what kind of mesage does this send to our black children?
Cuz it would be label as "boring" and "uninteresting to watch". It's sad really, especially when you see black people on reality shows that lack any type of substance.
I totally agree with you. I stopped watching BET because it makes it seem like that what black people like, or how we are, because its supposed to be "Black Entertainment." We are not all like that, and it shouldn't be addressing us as a group.
I have a feeling that the powers that be (i.e. those in control of B.E.T.) have a very definite image of 'black people' that they want to perpetuate, both to blacks who tune in, and also non-blacks who happen to watch the network. They will not show diversity in what the 'black image' is because it undermines their supreme goal, which is to keep the majority of black people where they are: shaping who they are by what images are FORCE FED to them through mass media :/
Crystal u have to understand a black female with negroid features is prejudged more so than u. Your hair is relaxed, u do have a lighter shade than a dark female. Basically White men would go for u before they would go 4 a female that is very dark, has course textured hair, & doesn't have your accent. I'm so over these race issues. Black women might have 2 date outside their race with the mindset that other races aren't better, mixing doesn't mean better life, good looking kids, good hair, etc.
@Girlllpuhlease Are you kidding me? My sister is dark skinned, like beautiful deep dark skin. She has natural thick, coarse, beautiful hair. And her husband is as blonde haired and blue eyes as they come.
I'm a black women, and I love being black. I can't stand these weak women who have let society put them in a corner. "No body puts baby in the corner"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Life is stuff, suck it up and keep it moving. There are so many good decent people in the world, you don't have to deal with ass holes (weather they be white or black). BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i know you are so right i mean racism is a result of ignorance and it is very said b/c people of every race have stereotypes and their are people who prove the the stereotypes right and it is very sad and i think that you are approaching this in a very intellectual way!!!
And by the way my girlfriend and soon to be wife is from Shanghai, I do have black friends in case any of you intend to question my motives, and I've dated a black woman in the past.
Again, I just had to say that after watching Tyra for the first time EVER. I am a university student so I will not believe that it's because a black woman is in charge of the show and her image is reflective of what she discusses, but why are white people always shown as racists and that black people are passive to it. That's ridiculous, this discussion in fact increased the problem of racism if anything at all. And why? because this discussion seemed to set up white people as the perpetrators.
nonsense that could easily go the other way. I felt that this just fueled the fire of black vs. white. Honestly, all the black man said was " if you call me nigga, I will punch in the face". Really, I almost came to the conclusion that they put him there just to respond to the white man and his insane comments that are no doubt present in the world, however if you compare the percentage of "normal" black men to this racist white guy, the results will no doubt be tipped in the favor of black men.
I agree with you and those who made comments. What I mostly want to discuss here is something that many seem to have overlooked. I want to focus on the black and white issue that seemed to be "generated" through the choice of the discussion participants. I find it highly aggravating that they would choose a, what seemed to be, "normal" black man with a white man with absolutely ridiculous views on black people. Not to say it should've been the other way around, but it was clearly projecting....
also, one thing that really hurts but i guess its just the way things are is that if you ask men what women they would like to date its usually asian, white or hispanic women.. and black women? we're either at the VERYYY botttom or we're not even on the list.
whenever i go out i only see black men with women of other races. other races of men are hardly ever with black women. its very frustraing. cause i love men of all races. but it seems that they never seem to love me : (
@pinkaddiction13 i have a theory on this - i think the media portrays whites as having the power(which is a lie but is set up by old white dudes in power), so white men have internalized this and think they have to have the white lady object to show they have power - but those are the weak disempowered men that let society think for them. a strong secure white dude who was raised to be ok w/ himself would probably date black woman. you're a beautiful black woman believe in yourself,.
i wanted to answer your question about it being hard for black women. i myself am an 18 year old black woman the things i see daily back up the fact that it is indeed harder for black women to date. due to the fact that most people look at us and already have a negative assumption.
but who can blame them? whenever you see a black woman in any type of media we are constantly portrayed as ghetto, loud, and ignorant. how can someone NOT think a person is like that when its shoved in their faces?
i agree with what u said in this video. I think tyra banks show shound get cancelled. she targets black women 4 some odd reason and make them look like lonley unattractive victims to the whole world. it's pure bullshit. i see beautiful educated women all the time that men of all races are drawn to. so this show is not something i would take seriously at all.
@SexyAsia09 I don't really see how Tyra targets black women, I am a black woman and I have watched Tyra several times and I have not once felt that I was being targeted. Though I cannot speak for all I still do not agree. If anything Tyra is trying to show a different side of the black community, a side that doesn't just display the happy part of it but the sadder parts of it. I personally didn't realize that so many people were actually bleaching not only themselves but their children's skin.

I was very upset about Kalisha's comment. I think she is a terrible misrepresentation of todays black woman. She was over weight and self pitying. As a black woman who has NEVER EVER had a problem getting a man of ANY race I am appalled that Tyra would allow Kalisha to misrepresent black women like that!
The bottom line is there are some sad, lonely, black women out there but the overwhelming majority arent like that and I would hate to see this misrepresetation continue in the media.
true. 20 years ago, perception of black people to others would be something that would have to be proven otherwise first before being considered outside stereotypes. the fact that B.Obama a, bi-racial president, is able to be voted president, shows that the world is changing on how people view race. Its a great thing. i think we wallow in the negative sometimes and don't aknowledge the positive growth of our humanity, because were never satisfied as a people. when one says its hard, it will be

I don't know why people put this rating down. Often times educated black women do go for White men. Not because of melanin content rather dating a man with no job, lower education, different socio-economic group doesn't happen often with gifted strong willed highly educated black women.
I want to know how she made her hair like that. This is why I don't want my hair relaxed anymore. I don't know how to make it look nice at all and it pisses me off.
i totally agree with u esp. the education part...im from India and we're a pretty educated lot .....doctors n engineers galore...but i still see educated people with very narrow mind sets all the time...
I always thot education was the cure all...u know? but i guess it still is a positive step in tht direction,
This is a great video. As a black women I do not take other people's perception to heart. No one can make me feel inferior without my consent. When people choose to put me in a box and project their ignorance upon me I find that it is truly more of an indication of who THEY are as a person.
i feel like it was scripted.

But I def agree

hollywood has to change.
GoRaiGo 1 year ago
Wow thankyou so much! i really enjoyed this video. I am a proud african american woman (22y/0) who dates interracially all the time. My sister is the same way. Me and my family dont fit the sterotype at all, we dont speak slang or anything. It is hard always seeing movies and tv shows that have no main blk charactors. Its like every movie with a hero always has to be white. Or every tv show is given to a blonde hair blue eyes person. And the blck charactor always has to have a thugish/attitude.

@Crystalroselove you are so right. There are some college educated people that will hold on to ignorant, socially intolerant, negative views of other races. kg062007 1 year ago 3

The only thing i disliked about the show, was the white female guest that was representing the white people. She seemed to be extra offended by any comment or question about whites, and made racial comments towards black people constantly. @Deepstarr7020, We do not victimize ourselves, we have a harder time because of the fact that mainstream media is usually ran by Caucasian elderly men. They feel in order to stay in power, they bring you networks such as BET and shows such as Flava flav and what have you....you should not generalize...you don't know ALL peoples of African descent, therefore it is pretty hard to judge....for me to say that all white people are racist would be a major generalization.

as a black man, i very much agree with you to an extent, BET adds fuel to the fire, so does the music industry, I don't care how many thumbs down I get for this. Other black people are helping to make us and themselves look very foolish. Why can't BET show more black doctors, black engineers, black teachers, etc. It's as if all we can do is become athletes and entertainers.
DaMostEnigmatic 2 years ago 62
Unfortunately i do not think that we black can truly complain about stereotypes when we continue to be all to happy to perpetuate them. I agree with you DaMostEnigmatic 100%. I also think celebs like Tyra and michael jackson and beyonce are part of the problem. They send the message that as soon as we have the means or have achieved success we will try our best to look less black - what kind of mesage does this send to our black children?

Newf101s 2 years ago
nonsense that could easily go the other way.
Newf101s 2 years ago
I agree with you and those who made comments. What I mostly want to discuss here is something that many seem to have overlooked. I want to focus on the black and white issue that seemed to be "generated" through the choice of the discussion participants. I find it highly aggravating that they would choose a, what seemed to be, "normal" black man with a white man with absolutely ridiculous views on black people. Not to say it should've been the other way around, but it was clearly projecting....

also, one thing that really hurts but i guess its just the way things are is that if you ask men what women they would like to date its usually asian, white or hispanic women.. and black women? we're either at the VERYYY botttom or we're not even on the list.
whenever i go out i only see black men with women of other races. other races of men are hardly ever with black women. its very frustraing. cause i love men of all races. but it seems that they never seem to love me : (
pinkaddiction13 2 years ago
@pinkaddiction13 i have a theory on this - i think the media portrays whites as having the power(which is a lie but is set up by old white dudes in power), so white men have internalized this and think they have to have the white lady object to show they have power - but those are the weak disempowered men that let society think for them. a strong secure white dude who was raised to be ok w/ himself would probably date black woman. you're a beautiful black woman believe in yourself,.
catalunarocks 1 year ago
i wanted to answer your question about it being hard for black women. i myself am an 18 year old black woman the things i see daily back up the fact that it is indeed harder for black women to date. due to the fact that most people look at us and already have a negative assumption.
but who can blame them? whenever you see a black woman in any type of media we are constantly portrayed as ghetto, loud, and ignorant. how can someone NOT think a person is like that when its shoved in their faces?

@SexyAsia09 I don't really see how Tyra targets black women, I am a black woman and I have watched Tyra several times and I have not once felt that I was being targeted.
