This could be considered Vader's most badass moment. The character moment where you realize that he just doesn't give a damn about anyone or anything, except his own interests. Then the prequels made him out to be a sniveling lovestruck pussy.
@sternberg1 No. Kershner sat down with James Earl Jones and recited every line to him to demonstrate how he wanted them to sound, which is why Vader sounds so much meaner in this movie. I don't know if Lucas or Marquand did that with Jones in the other two but if they did it certainly didn't have the same impact.
@62SG Lucas did sit down with him as well. James wanted to add some more complexity to the character and make him diverse and such in Empire and Return, but Lucas nixed that idea because he wanted Vader to sound emotionless and cold.

George Lucas: There are going to be more CGI aliens in these classics and a CGI Jabba the Hutt in A New Hope
Fan: That was never what fans wanted, nor was making Greedo shoot first!
Lucas: Perhaps you think you're being treated unfairly?
Fan: These versions are getting worse...
(2004)
Lucas: Hayden Christensen is now going to be in Return of the Jedi.
Fan: What about Sebastian Shaw?!
Lucas: I am altering these classics. Pray I don't alter them any further.

Vader had an awesome tremble to his voice in this movie that he didn't have in the other two. Kersh was clearly the best director.

@62SG But that would be traced back on the sound mixers,no? Not the director then
