@DCNY31279 i respect your opinion, but as a former christian one thing i learn is that you cant mix faith with reason, i dont know if you are a christian i'm just asuming, but if you try to mix faith and reason in a religious setting you are going to run into alot of problems, example: the holy spirit getting mary pregnant, if you try to use reason on that you will come to the conclusion that it makes no sense, but when you take away reason and only use faith then it makes perfect sense.

That means the Church has accepted what some of the pagan philosophers like Plato and Aristotle have said that man has an immortal soul. Probably the earliest of such is mentioned in St. Paul's writings at the Aeropagus in Athens (Acts 17:18), Romans 1:20. Finally, check out Pope John Paul's encyclical Fides et Ratio (Faith and reason). Have a nice evening.

I suppose using fairy tale and immature would be offensive, but I suspect that when somebody, however well meaning their intentions are, calls into question your whole belief system, its going to be somewhat offensive. I think that's a big problem with discussions between discussions between theist and atheist.
I understand, but I have had inoffensive conversations on the matter before- I question your ideas without having to use words like that. Challenge your beliefs honestly, by comparing the basic tenets of your faith against the vast body of scientific evidence amassed by humanity over the last few hundred years. If you cannot do that then you are stuck in an intellectual rut, which I am sure you would agree, is an immature position to adopt and maintain.
4. I receive a lot of messages from what I can only class as deluded people telling me I am going to burn for all eternity in the hellfire. I see this as an empty threat. It holds absolutely no validity with me whatsoever, as I do not believe there is such a place. As I said- Ted Haggard was indeed an idiot- so I hope that you weren't attempting to insult me with that. You seem to confuse being civil with being polite. Richard Dawkins is a beacon of civility. He is also unbelievably rude to people that don't agree with him. Practically all my friends (except my best friend) are atheist and they don't see the need to be rude- except one who just came up to me when I was talking about religion and shouted at me: 'Your life is a fucking fairy tale- grow up!'

I understand, but I have had inoffensive conversations on the matter before- I question your ideas without having to use words like that. I don't require others to believe what I believe, or even to understand why, but I do expect others to respect my decision as an adult and as a human being- you don't respect someone you insult. Atheists I'm sure would demand the same respect- I'm aware that many theists don't give this but we should always try to rise above pettiness like that.

I absolutely agree with you about Dawkins' rudeness, even though I do find Haggard's rudeness a little more salient. But I would bet that this video could be used in a fine psychological experiment that shows how partiality on a topic can lead viewers to an extreme kind of emotional blindness to obvious facts about a character. Atheists appear to be completely blind to Dawkins' haughty attitude, concentrating on how offensive Haggard behaves. With Christians, I bet it's the other way round.
