This is absolutely fantastic! I enjoyed the footage slowly evolving from plain test-shots into a story. I'm thinking about buying a Chinon 506SMXL, have you had any experience with it? What year was your Canon made? ... There is something so incredibly surreal about super 8; well articulated here.
It's weird to see the modern world shot on Super 8. It's almost like watching the 21st century through the eyes of a time traveler from the 1960's. :P
Cabe should really shut his stupid face. I suppose that because this video has a soundtrack, he thinks that the uploader meant this to be a short film.
This is easily the best super 8 montage video i have seen on youtube. The music goes along with the film so well. Great video man and keep up the good work
@misanthrope013 Fucking pretentious hipster fucks think buying an expensive (or not) camera and taking close ups or stupid fucking everyday footage makes them a photographer, or an artist. IT DOESN'T.
About 99% of you will never get a photography job, and should really be realistic about yourselves.
@larendor10 one: you come from a long line of down-syndrome fucks long before the condition was even discovered; two: seventeen years old, huh? you've picked a fight with the wrong guy, kid; three: your bubonic plague-infested hellhole of a country is a speck on the face of the planet that should be wiped out.

I remember shooting movies with a super 8 but now I got my production crew so we have some real cameras to film like we're filming Moonrise Kingdom right now
@DBOWSHIER It was a font I downloaded called 'Irrep.' I think it's the same font that's used for the opening credits in the film 'Breakfast On Pluto.'
I love "Super 8"! Is there a sequel coming? I was able to watch the full movie in Blu-Ray quality at watchsuper8onlinefree doooot cooom. I mean dot com hehe.
how much did it cost to get it processed? And where was it that you did? also, is this off of a projector or did you get it converted? Would like to know, thanks!
Hi, I know you posted this a while ago but I was wondering if you could tell me what type of film you used. I like the picture quality. That's what I'm trying to get for my super 8 camera I just bought. Thanks!
@dftwatcher I used Ektachrome 64t on this film. They only do Ektachrome 100D now, I'm not sure how much difference there is yet as I haven't got round to shooting a new film with it.
I just bought a super 8 camera ( an kohka) and equipment. Super 8 cassettes is easy to find but it's hard for me to find any reel to reel film. where do you buy your reel to reel film?
@MrLittleman63 I'm not quite sure what you mean, but the film is in the Super 8 cassette and you just slot it into the camera. Some older 8mm cameras need you to put the film in manually as a reel, but not the super 8.
@slashmaster2 It's very difficult to focus, especially in low light. If you're slightly off with the focus, because of the depth of field it comes out all wrong.
Great example of Super 8. I'm a photographer and shoot digital with Pentax systems but these are the kind of things that made me love film and photography as a kid!
Love the title font. Where did you get it? Love how you matched the music to the beats of the film, and even though the shots were a bit random, there was a hint of story, a very subtle story. The music matching is tops. Congrats on a good first!
super 8, 8mm and 16mm does look fantastic, but yes, it is very expensive. they make digital video cameras that have the look and feel of super 8 movie cameras. look into the digital harinezumi-- it runs about $180.00 and very worth it or the mattel vidster-- it's a kids digital video camera. made for a 6 year old. i picked one up on amazon for $70. it looks like 16mm film. i highly reccomend these 2 cameras as an alternate option. youtube some sample videos for these cameras. money--saved.
may so called "movies" or "films" say that they're art..when in actuality...they are just the same. Alot of movies suck these days, and the only saving grace is the "super eight" films
@ksmudski I didn't get this film professionally transferred I recorded it with my DV camera using my projector. I do however have quite a good DV camera, a Sony PD150. I compressed it using a program I have on my computer for converting video files to MP3 players. If you go into my movies there is one called "Circles Round You" and that was professionally transferred, it was also uploaded from the original AVI file so apart from what youtube does there is no extra quality loss.
@nolliecab That's from where to reel of film has finished and light has got in. I think it looks quite cool and a lot of film-makers try to imitate it with effects, but the real thing always looks the best.
@BBrtqB There are no widescreen super 8 cameras but I believe there are a few lenses that can adapt the camera to widescreen, but don't hold me to that. Also you cant use regular tapes in super 8 cameras as they are from a time before tape an used real film... tape effectively killed super 8 as it was cheaper, easier and the turnaround was much faster... but nowhere near as cool.
@tomrules30 grab an anamorphic adapter, fix it to your super8, then either attach same adapter to the projector, or stretch digitally, either way the results wont be great, but its fun. Get a small format adapter either a 16mm or smaller, the 35 weighs about 4 times the camera!
@BBrtqB Super 8 uses film, not tapes. I think you may be confusing it with 8mm and Hi8 videotape. Tape won't work in an 8mm film camera. They still make super8 film, but you can't find the old regular 8mm anymore. I beleve you could convert some 8mm film cameras to widescreen by using a technic similar to cinamascop movies. a lens is place over the camera that squeezes the picture and makes everything skinny. a lens on the end of the projector does the opposite.
@patrick9648 oh ok thanks, hai really want a super 8 but i don't know where i could get the film... also how do you get it onto your computer? thanks for all the help

Fantastic Super 8 film, i just got my first super 8 camera today and i hope that my first super 8 film comes out half this good! I also live in MK so was happy to see the place looking so beautiful in your shots :)
that video just earned a spot on my playlist, that video was so cool, its like total cool,
i had a super 8mm camera with sound, when i was a teen, wish i would have kept the projector, each film would run about 4 and a half minutes, was a lot of fun, thanks for bringing back memorys, wish i knew someone with a projector,i would put my films on video, thanks again this was awesome,
gosh this takes me back and im not sure why but this is awesome somthing youd see in like a nuclear holocaust movie not that this is bad but like memories !!! great job and whats the song
For some reason I keep coming back to this film. There is just something about it, I can quite put my finger on it. But for some reason the sun at :29 just hits me.
Honestly, I clicked on this thinking, "Who'd want to shoot anything in 8 anymore??" Then after five seconds into this I thought, "This kicks ass, espcially with that music." It would be hard to digitally immitate the images, colors, frames per sec, and everything else that makes this cool. Good work.
i really like the film, very nice cuts and choice of music. may i ask how much you pay per minute or meter of film whereever you buy it? i'd like to film on super 8 this summer but it seems to be quite the investment. camera and projector etc are a dime a dozen but the film...
Hey mate. I've just bought my 1st super 8 camera off ebay after years of admiring the look & feel or actual film in movie making.
Really love what you've done with this clip. Some really nicely cut together shots & the soundtrack at 1st seems out of place but really begins to grow on you!
Did you know that there are many places that transfer your processed film directly onto DVD, Mini-DV or even to a portable Hard Drive? Or did you do it your way to get a desired effect?
this is how my memories looks in my brain, kind of :P when you're thinking of things you've done it is a little blurry like this, short segments, only some parts are memorized but its mostly the good parts and toghether it makes up the whole story =D
He dude, sik vid! I recently was given a Bell & Howell filmosonic 8 camera. I have absolutely no idea about where to get film from, how to playback the footage, how to get footage onto a computer to edit, etc... Do you have any websites or books you reccomend to get the ball rolling?
then why did you reply yes i did to the question, do you have to use a projector and then film what's being projected in order to get this onto a computer to edit?
@tragallon I had to adjust the brightness a bit as it was a bit dark on a computer screen. But apart from that I tried to keep it as natural as possible. Be sure to check out my other super 8 video "The Epic Super 8 Snow Movie" in the video responses.
Looks pretty nice! super 8 still drives that sort of magical textures and colours. Anybody knows any video editing software that can gives a super 8 effect to a moder digital footage? It would be great
Very beautiful shots. like the sound track with it...very dramatic! I just put my first 8mm film up too....its sooo fustrating getting it in focus!!!!
This is cool as hell. How do you digitize the footage? Do you have to use a projector, then use another camera to film what you are projecting? Sorry if that's a dumb question, but the next time I see one of these cameras in a thrift store I am snatching it up.
@MIKIZAZPIKI For sure, I'm just getting into it-bought a camera and waiting for the film in the mail. It's the equivalent of records to mp3. Analog media is way better.
@MIKIZAZPIKI Ppl use the term "filming" today and they don`t even use film it`s either tape, mini DVD, hard drive, or memory. I guess they`re used to saying it or it just sounds cooler.
Get in! A bit of MK in Super 8 ;-)

Good work.

Back in those days there were no image stabilization, color correction, or any kind of effects... and it still looks awesome, it's just film.
I like that vintage look, it just feels nostalgic :)

feels so nostalgic... i like it

i really like the film, very nice cuts and choice of music. may i ask how much you pay per minute or meter of film whereever you buy it? i'd like to film on super 8 this summer but it seems to be quite the investment. camera and projector etc are a dime a dozen but the film...

Or did you do it your way to get a desired effect?
aussiekid23 1 year ago
this is how my memories looks in my brain, kind of :P when you're thinking of things you've done it is a little blurry like this, short segments, only some parts are memorized but its mostly the good parts and toghether it makes up the whole story =D

He dude, sik vid! I recently was given a Bell & Howell filmosonic 8 camera. I have absolutely no idea about where to get film from, how to playback the footage, how to get footage onto a computer to edit, etc... Do you have any websites or books you reccomend to get the ball rolling?

When you shot this, did you immediatly view it on a projector or did you have to process it first?
furturescorese 1 year ago
with super 8 you have to send it off to be processed before you can watch it back. this takes me up to two weeks now as i need to send it to germany.

then why did you reply yes i did to the question, do you have to use a projector and then film what's being projected in order to get this onto a computer to edit?
furturescorese 1 year ago
Yes I got the film processed, played it on a projector and then filmed it with my DV camera so I could put it on my computer.
tomrules30 1 year ago
@tomrules30 That's a strange but ingenious way of 'telecine-ing' your film. Did you alter it much in post?
tragallon 1 year ago
@tragallon I had to adjust the brightness a bit as it was a bit dark on a computer screen. But apart from that I tried to keep it as natural as possible. Be sure to check out my other super 8 video "The Epic Super 8 Snow Movie" in the video responses.

Looks pretty nice! super 8 still drives that sort of magical textures and colours. Anybody knows any video editing software that can gives a super 8 effect to a moder digital footage? It would be great
raipsua 1 year ago
It's imposible to create the analog feel on a digital camera, and i don't think there's any software that does it good. You should google tho.

Very beautiful shots. like the sound track with it...very dramatic! I just put my first 8mm film up too....its sooo fustrating getting it in focus!!!!
but think I'm addicted now!
Michelleheighway 2 years ago
This is cool as hell. How do you digitize the footage? Do you have to use a projector, then use another camera to film what you are projecting? Sorry if that's a dumb question, but the next time I see one of these cameras in a thrift store I am snatching it up.

Super 8 is still wonderfull, because it is REAL Film.
MIKIZAZPIKI 2 years ago 22
@MIKIZAZPIKI kinda funny how ppl say they are filming when using video.
jack2breeze 1 year ago
@MIKIZAZPIKI For sure, I'm just getting into it-bought a camera and waiting for the film in the mail. It's the equivalent of records to mp3. Analog media is way better.
Kparker830 1 year ago
@MIKIZAZPIKI Ppl use the term "filming" today and they don`t even use film it`s either tape, mini DVD, hard drive, or memory. I guess they`re used to saying it or it just sounds cooler.
jack2breeze 1 year ago
great choice of music... picture could've used some lightening in post, though... at least it's a bit dark for my taste.
