  • Wow

  • I remember him at on early tv doing performances, at the twilight of his career. Very nice, even iconic, singer. He is missed.

  • This is a re-issue from a 1931 Victor. A recording strike was declared by the

American Musicians Union for 1943 , The song was revived in "Casablanca"

and a record was needed for sale. Victor issued it in a dubbed

master, and oddly, in the US paired it with an Artie Shaw tune. I don't know

if foreign issues used the dubbed master. Rudy himself said in his memoirs

that he didn't care for this record because it was a rush job recorded

when he had a slight cold and the key was too high.

  • This was not sung through a megaphone. In fact none of Rudy's recordings were sung through a megaphone

  • @fetusjuicefuck were you born retarded or do you have to work at it?

  • This proves that certain songs need to be sung through a megaphone.

  • Love this version w/the intro, also the way Rudy Vallee sings it, & the orchestra is wonderful . Thanks 4 posting!

  • Rudi beats Bing every time round--

  • How beautiful.

  • It's a shame the verse got dropped in many later renditions.

Ditto for Over the Rainbow. It also sounds more interesting with the verse.

  • I'm a big fan of the "vamp" or "introduction" . Neglected verses of the songs of this period. Where have you found lost verses of "Over the Rainbow'?

  • Here's the intro: When all the world is a hopeless jumble And the raindrops tumble all around Heaven opens a magic lane When all the clouds darken up the skyway There's a rainbow highway to be found Leading from your window pane To a place behind the sun Just a step beyond the rain Somewhere over the rainbow way up high [and so on]
  • Thank you for sharing the verse of "Over The Rainbow". Much appreciated.

  • A much belated thanks for the Vamp.

  • The only recorded version that includes the intro is conducted by Andre Rieu, and sung by Suzan Erens,

    YouTube has it posted.

  • this song smooches my soul

  • This is one of my all-time favourite tunes. It's good to hear Rudy Vallee's rendition.

  • Rudy Vallee truly gave this song the respect it deserved. There have been many to sing it after him (see list on Wikipedia) but his rendition still stands out as being the very best. Classic songs will always sound better when they are sung by the original artists

    .

  • Love this recording. It great to hear the verse to this wonderful song.

  • Thank you so much for posting this romantic Rudy record. I love it!

  • GShane, Wonderful rendition of a classic! Rudy still had what it took in '44! Hi Ho! YF, J.

  • What LP was that?

  • It's a shellac 78rpm record, from 1944. An "HMV" Australian pressing no.E.A.3103.
