Thanks for posting this. Not bad for a film made in 1958. I saw some similarities with the more modern version called Stalingrad made in the 1990s but I liked the plot in this one better. I have always wondered if a movie has been made about what happened to the 90,000 taken prisoner. Most died on the way to or in captivity, but 5,000 did make it home. Would like to know their story.

Good movie. Good historic accuracy, not perfect, but very good nonetheless. German soldier are portrayed with a little too much gentleness, but it's the flaws of the movies of this era anyway.

For the essential message (Christian charity against nazi ideology.), well, it's a message and it's served well, tough I don't buy that. (Don't get me wrong, I hate nazi.)

Anyway, he's worth most of the movie deed today.

i agree. never seen a remake wich was better than the original. and this movie is excellent. btw, some from the actors has been fighting german soldiers in the wwII also, 14 years before.

der beste kriegsfilm EVER...fast real...und vom schauspielerischem können und drehbuch an die großen vorkriegsfilme (und während des krieges) anschließend!

sowas findest man heute nicht mehr!!!
