Royal came to Walnut Grove with Millie and his two sons. She met him then when they kept the boys at the house with them. Did the producers just want to act like that episode never happened or something?

They' cared little about the continuence. It CAN'T be 10 years since "The Nephews" in Season 7. Albert was 13 or 14 then and he most certainly is not 24 now! And as entertaining as the three extra episodes/movies are, I wish they'd not made them about Albert dying before he even got the chance to study medicine, when they'd already mentioned on this season that he left to study and returned years later as doctor Albert Ingalls. That's like utter contradiction. I consider the original idea canon.

I came up with my own theory to justify the Royal confusion. I just pretend that in The Nephews it was Almanzo's sister, Alice, that came to visit with her two boys. She just so happened to marry a Royal and goes by the name Millie instead of Alice (hey it could happen! Beth is Laura's pet name). I know it's far stretched, but it makes sense to me.

at the end of "the Nephews" Royal`s wife, becomes pregnant with Jenny! Thier sons, grew up 2 be a dr. and a preacher. Now 10 years later...Jenny is like 11 somehing...while her brothers are like in there 20s or 30s :P

@caution102 Almanzo gave Laura the nickname Beth b/c it sounded more grown than Half-pint (which was given to her by her father). Almanzo took Beth from Laura's middle name aka Elizabeth. Hope that helps.

In the episode, "The Nephews", Millie did tell Royal that she was going to have another baby when they were on that raft on the river. So perhaps that was Jenny. Only now they have skipped ahead too far.

One major mistake is that Royal says Laura was a kidd hen he saw her last. Didn't they meet when he dropped of the brats in The Nephews?

I belive the writers messed up the years a bit, perhaps to fit the age of the actor playing Jenny. But they do jump a bit in the years over the series.

This is supposed to take place ten years after Royal's visit so the two boys would surely be of to college or almost finished with college. As he said he couldn't do much after his wife died. So maybe he sent them to bording school right after.

I think maybe this episode is supposed to have happened 10 years after "The Nephews". Remember in The Nephews, the wife is alive and aparently pregnant again.

And it would explaine why the boys aren't around.

No, she wasn't... Laura becomes pregnant in the epi " I Do, Again" (season 7, air date Mar. 2, 1981). In the epi entitled "The Nephews" Almanzo is trying to convience Laura to start a family by babysitting his older brother's Royal's twin boys while their away (season 7, air date Jan. 19., 1981).

But as you have said in the past, Emotional, the inconsistencies are great in the tv series. We need to just watch each episode as its own entity since that is what Michael Landon and the other producers seemed to have done. Don't worry about what happened in past episodes... Just roll with it! LoL

Replying some time later, but it's not a scene in Laura Ingalls Wilder or Goodbye Mrs. Wilder. I was referring to THIS episode, where Laura permanently retires from teaching and Laura is comforted by Almanzo. I remember it very well. But the syndicated version on Hallmark may have very well cut it. I wouldn't know, as I don't get Hallmark. I just hope it's not cut on the DVDs as well.

You are right about that. Also the Wilder brothers spread apart in age. When it was only 2 years (in real life) that Almonzo has seen Royal, this time he claims it's 10 years. And Laura says "It's a pleasure to finally meet you" when she's met him 2 years ago taking care of those 2 bratty boys. I wonder whatever happened to the boys and how Jenny turned out so well-behaved.

I thought Almanzo's brother royal had the two sons Rupert and Myron. In the episode "The Nephews" Royal goes to Walnut grove, drops the boys off with Almanzo and Laura and then goes on a second honeymoon with his wife. In that episode Royal's wife tells him shes pregnant, which I guess could've been Jenny. If I am correct why does Almanzo say he hasn't seen Royal in ten years and then introduce Royal to Laura as though they'd never met?

Writers oversight in the show. Unfortunately, the writers didn't pay too much attention to the timeline for the series. Most LHOP fans catch such mistakes throughout the entire series.
