look at the girl @1:18-1:28 didnt they shave their armpits back then or was that just a cast of a shadow? nice video by the way just wanted to point that out
In response to SilverscreenRN Yes, I'd be right there with you . I'd night club with you, dance with you to this music, and drive to the beach with you in a '29 automobile. I wish I could make it happen now. Thank god that we still have the music on recordings like this. I'm sure you're as lovely as I think.
People! We definitely need a time machine here!!! I want to go back and live some time on the 20's, too!!! Awwwww! Lovely fashion, dance, songs, fun... :D
@corinnabambina No I meant powDer - that is cocaine. although granted there was an assumption of white power the 1920s! Still is - in most of the USA!
@dsp714 Well, I think we're in a depression now as well, although the same applies - when you are living through it, you count the ways in which you are thankful and just do the best you can regardless of what era.
@GeminiNightOwl Although I love the music and fashion during this era, I highly doubt anyone would want to live during "The Great Depression." Just saying :)
@GeminiNightOwl Hmmm I don't think you want that. People always want to go back to some time long ago and think they will love it... They wouldn't they'd go crazy. You want to go back to the 1920s, so lets revoke everything that wasn't out in the 1920s that includes the device you used to listen to this very song
@jaroncreed Nah, I would still like to go back - and I wouldn't need the computer to listen to it - I'd have a good old victrola I(which I do own one) and I'd be going to jazz clubs live and having a blast :) I wouldn't go crazy at all - society nowadays is crazy.
@jaroncreed People back then may have had things harder without all the modern technology, but I believe they were happier with the simpler things in life and took more time to notice what was around them - it was a whole different world. My grandmother was born inn\ 1905 so I got the stories firsthand
Thank you for the lovely montage. I was definately born in the wrong time. I could have been so happy as a twenties; thirties girl. Think Dorothy Parker. Anyone else feel like this? Just curious.
@SilverscreenRN yes! feel this way all to often. there doesn't seem to be any room for natural creativity unless dollar bill is attached. folks don't like it if you live too free.
@SilverscreenRN I know exactly what you mean. My sense of humor is so goofy and old-fashioned, I would have loved to have lived in the '30s and been a vaudeville/radio comedian. In today's world....well, I'm just out of place.
@SilverscreenRN aside from the girl part, i definatly feel like i was born in the wrong era. lol if only there was away to go to the time we specifically relate to and see how life would have been in that time. *sigh* if only huh?
@SilverscreenRN o Oh my darling! I pine for this era constantly. Although I carry on with my daily life, I fantasize of a time machine to take me to the 1920s. I'm probably missing out on my one and only lifetime, but I can't help it. I adore the music of this era and I'm MAD for silent films. I'd give everything to trade places with a flapper c. 1922.
Never heard of Elmer Grosso but this jolly number is somehow familiar - others must have recorded it. The thighs were somehow familiar too - they both stirred happy memories! Many thanks.
Thanks kspm - I've just found YT posts of versions by Leo Reisman, Sammy Fain (the composer) and an extraordinary 1929 film clip from GoodOldDays with a John Cleese lookalike appearance! I'm sure there must have been other versions too - it's such a good tune.
I hope this great song and presentation will survive, even if the last picture hardly is to be called risqué. Not my favorite vocalist, but both arrangement and sound are excellent!
I like this foot-tapper, the slightly nasal plaintive singing and the pictures of the 20's belles femmes. The last one may be too risque for the YT authority. :)
Hey, does anybody have a lyrics to this? I can't find it anywhere and I don't get some of the words ... I would be so so so grateful.
