Power metal is a blend of Heavy metal and Speed metal with it's own little twist - often keyboards. Helloween, being the first power metal band are a lot rawer than the newer bands because the genre has evolved. That is probably why they sound like Heavy metal rather than Power metal... that's how I look at it anyway.

Well, if you're comparing Helloween to Gamma Ray, I think you should compare the band's two most brilliant albums. So it's Keeper of the Seven Keys parts 1 and 2 against Gamma Ray's Somewhere Out in Space and Land of the Free. I love both bands, but I think Helloween is slightly better. Of course it depends on the mood. Each band gives different feelings.

Lately I've been getting into the Power Metal genre, like Sonata Arctica, Gamma Ray, Hammerfall, Nightwish, Dream Theatre, Dragonforce, etc. And I have to say..I don't really like these guys. Helloween...I read that they were like the fathers of power metal. But I'm not that interested...I think it's one of those things like the Beatles were the "fathers of rock" even though I can't stand listening to their stuff.

well, for one, sure. i mean the beatles didnt release an album till after 1960, and rock had already existed for around 10 years by then. the real fathers of rock include: ike turner, elvis, big joe turner, bo diddley, chuck berry, little richard, les paul, bill haley, ray charles, and carl perkins. all artists in 1950s usa, not in 1960s england like the beatles.
