If he wants to point to that as being wrong and Christians do it. That shows that he knows or has a belief that Abortion is wrong. But here he says that Christians are wrong to try to stop it. And that by doing this Christians are committing a horrible crime. This guy does not know what he is talking about.

So, in the end, the debate over whether an unborn fetus is a person is irrelevant, as that's TOTALLY philosophical. There can be no consensus. We already know the physiological info about development.
What the debate is REALLY about (that few people understand) is whether a person has complete control over their own body, and what goes on inside it, even if that control means the right to sacrifice something alive, that may or may not be a "person," which is dependent upon whom you ask.

We shouldn't automatically favor the childs life who hasn't even made any memories yet to have a life to take. The woman has more of a life to take than the child. This is my thought on the "57 people died of back alley abortions". Those 57 people died because abortions at the time were ILLEGAL, and the only way to get one was through a dangerous BACK-ALLEY abortion. Had abortions been legal, i bet none of those woman would have died! The problem isn't the abortion, its that abortion was illegal and therefor had to be done in unsanitary and dangerous ways. I am all for prevention and awareness, as women should not be sexually active until they can have a baby. This, of course, is not always the case, nor is it completely possible, but I still don't think that the abortion laws we have now are helping matters at all. Most abortions are occuring in women 20-25 (not underaged), who have moderate to average incomes. I won't post again, but thanks for the discussion, I learned quite a bit and was able to understand the complexity of the issue better.

In preeclampsia, there are problems in utero which can cause both the mother and baby (as a result of mother dying) to die, unless the baby is aborted at whatever stage of development it is in.

For a doctor if they see hypertension (which affects 10% of pregnancies), there is a likelyhood that it can develop into preeclampsia. So he/she must make the decision to abort BEFORE the ACTUAL disorder during the FIRST trimester.
If he decides not to abort, there is the RISK of death when its too late to abort, and DEFINITELY many health complications.
again, preeclampsia rarely results in death in the United States, and because preeclampsia starts in the last trimester, one can cure preeclampsia by delivering the baby. 10% hypertension is not adequate for either the doctor, nor the mother, to decide just to abort the baby. Mother's who have hypertension have a higher chance at having hypertension and other health complications even without being pregnant. I am unsure how Brian is correct in anything he says to Todd.

dude I dont think you really understand this issue, (no offense). THe ONLY cure for advanced preeclampsia is DELIVERY at that moment. This may or may not kill the baby depending on its stage of development, but it will save the mother.
Similarly there is no way of knowing that preeclampsia will develop until AFTER the first trimester(until it is illegal to abort). So some people make the choice to avoid these risks by aborting.

So, in the end, the debate over whether an unborn fetus is a person is irrelevant, as that's TOTALLY philosophical. There can be no consensus. We already know the physiological info about development.
What the debate is REALLY about (that few people understand) is whether a person has complete control over their own body, and what goes on inside it, even if that control means the right to sacrifice something alive, that may or may not be a "person," which is dependent upon whom you ask.

Brian Sapient is totally 100% correct on this. Whether a woman wants to die delivering her child, should be her own choice. We shouldn't automatically favor the childs life who hasn't even made any memories yet to have a life to take. The woman has more of a life to take than the child. This is my thought on the "57 people died of back alley abortions". Those 57 people died because abortions at the time were ILLEGAL, and the only way to get one was through a dangerous BACK-ALLEY abortion. Had abortions been legal, i bet none of those woman would have died! The problem isn't the abortion, its that abortion was illegal and therefor had to be done in unsanitary and dangerous ways. Thats was caused their deaths.

I am all for prevention and awareness, as women should not be sexually active until they can have a baby. This, of course, is not always the case, nor is it completely possible, but I still don't think that the abortion laws we have now are helping matters at all. Most abortions are occuring in women 20-25 (not underaged), who have moderate to average incomes. I won't post again, but thanks for the discussion, I learned quite a bit and was able to understand the complexity of the issue better.

I am as atheist as they come but I can not support abortions EXCEPT for in instances where the abortion is being performed for the express purpose of saving the mothers life, and even then, only if the baby has a great chance of dying anyway.
There is nothing special about a baby passing through a birth canal that suddenly makes it a living human being. It was a living human being before it was born, just as it is after it is born.

Uh I did exactly what was suggested in the video, the claims are not there, so because I did what he suggested and there is no support of the claim, then obviously I don't know how to use google right? In preeclampsia, there are problems in utero which can cause both the mother and baby (as a result of mother dying) to die, unless the baby is aborted at whatever stage of development it is in.

I undertsand pre-eclampsia, I did search as a matter of fact using multiple search engines, cases of American woman dying from not being allowed to have an abortion to save the mother's life. The only things that keep showing are instances outside of the US, the remark in this video said this has happened under the current administration ! Not true, so his claims are false, that was the point I was making, if the cases are there, show me the link please...

oh i dont know about specific cases, maybe they exist but I dunno... Maybe Brian is wrong in saying that. but there is a more important point that is clear from all this: he current administration is trying to make abortion completely illegal regardless of circumstance (which would hurt rape victims and ppl diagnosed with preeclampsia.) I think Brian is obviously under pressure speaking openly like this. But he could have used better words.

in the last decade, about seven hundred women have died of preeclampsia. In one year, 1.37 million babies are aborted...tell me why over 99% of abortions are not related to medical dangers, and how this is a good argument for the laws we currently have in place supporting "reproductive rights" of women.

Preeclampsia (and related diseases) leads to 76,000 deaths EVERY YEAR "by CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATES"
It affects 5-8% of pregnancies, so 5-8% of ALL PREGNANCIES have a RISK of killing the mother. So in ALL these cases its safer (for the mother) to abort the baby.

one more smgharsha, do you think that all women should be given the liberty of having an abortion in the united states? Even with the large number of global maternal victims (which is obviously tragic and am appreciative you pointed that out), that still does not compare to the 1.37 million babies in America ALONE that are aborted, over 99% of which are NOT medically related.Therefore, while there is an obvious global medical need, the final answer is not indiscriminate abortion.

Let me explain a bit about this:
Preeclampsia starts in the last trimester, after it is TOO late for abortion. For a doctor if they see hypertension (which affects 10% of pregnancies), there is a likelyhood that it can develop into preeclampsia. So he/she must make the decision to abort BEFORE the ACTUAL disorder during the FIRST trimester.
If he decides not to abort, there is the RISK of death when its too late to abort, and DEFINITELY many health complications.

again, preeclampsia rarely results in death in the United States, and because preeclampsia starts in the last trimester, one can cure preeclampsia by delivering the baby. 10% hypertension is not adequate for either the doctor, nor the mother, to decide just to abort the baby. Mother's who have hypertension have a higher chance at having hypertension and other health complications even without being pregnant. I am unsure how Brian is correct in anything he says to Todd.

ok I overstated that mortaility is low because we abort. thats ONE of the reasons, but not the main reason.
But regardless this is a decision that a mother needs to make. Such a pregancy can lead to MORE problems than if they are NOT pregnant, severe mental trauma being one fo them.
Then there is the risk of losing the baby anyway. These are all a matter of RISKS.
There are also other risks unrelated to preeclampsia such as hemmorages.

My statistics were concerning the United States, and were produced by a Kidney Specialist from Beth Israel Hospital quoted in editorial online for the New Yorker (that I did google) but was quite valid, thanks for calling me out on it though, I am concerned with truth about people and pregnancy health risks as well as you, and want to be honest.

I have no disagreement that most of the abortions are not health related, but the fact that even SOME are health related means that abortion should be legal, and careful educational measures should be taken to make sure the rest or not random abortions.
You call to sacrifice a woman regardless of her health situation and I dont agree with that.

oh no, my arguments are not politically motivated, it is purely ethics and health for people that I am interested in. I still think that Todd is right that there is very little reason in this country to have a medically related abortion,as the conditions you cited rarely result in mortality when given proper medical care. Most of the maternal deaths in this country are from negligence and improper medical care, something that needs awareness.

dude I dont think you really understand this issue, (no offense). THe ONLY cure for advanced preeclampsia is DELIVERY at that moment. This may or may not kill the baby depending on its stage of development, but it will save the mother.
Similarly there is no way of knowing that preeclampsia will develop until AFTER the first trimester(until it is illegal to abort). So some people make the choice to avoid these risks by aborting.
The reason the mortality rate is so low is BECAUSE we abort

Not true, the mortality rate is low because it occurs in the third trimester and can be treated properly then.I am not talking about statistics concerning the potential to have preeclampsia, I am talking about women who have it and are treated properly for it throughout their pregnancy, not because they decide not to carry it to term. Abortion does not cure hypertension and preeclampsia, it only reduces the stress.

thanks for being polite. But heres the thing, pregnancies make things complex, while there are drugs that are helpful most harm the baby (so success is rare through treatment). But if delivery is carried out the baby is either dead or a preme (saving the mothers life and SOMETIMES the baby's life). There are also other disorders we havent touched on.
My point is the statistics dont tell the whole story, and sometimes doctors RECCOMEND abortions to avoid such problems

ofcourse abortion does not cure hypertension. But it alleviates the mother from further problems that a pregnancy creates.
Im am NOT for indiscriminant abormtions but I do think that since there is a LOT of RISK for health problems, abortions should be legal.
Ofcourse there isnt MUCH maternal death in the modern world, but I do NOT think it is right to weigh the number of lives lost through maternal deaths and saying it is insignificatn.

I doubt that people like Brian care about born life, when they use evolution- which cheapens life-therefore they feel they have no one to be held accountable to. The issue isn't the difference between unborn or born, it's the LIFE. It looks like animals have more rights than unborn innocent human lives now, how ironic. Evolution does not cheapen life - an afterlife does. If we live forever in heaven, what does it matter if we kill each other? And think how different we could have turned out through evolution! We could have ended up as non-rational animals, too.
