first alarm and every additional alarm after that you get, 3 engines, 1 truck, 1 squad, and a chief. and i think that dispatcher actually retired this january 2010.
WOW! That is the calmest dispatcher I have ever heard. Working as a dispatcher its a tough job. One fear that I have is dealing with mayday calls both from police and fire.
1st alarm assignment in Detroit is 2 engines, 2 ladders, a squad, and a Chief. 2nd alarm is double the above. I don't know the last time they had a 3rd...it would have to be huge. This would have been an "all hands" for the FDNY. I spent a week in Detroit with the DFD this summer and these guys bust balls like no other. Also, the friendliest and most hospitipal guys I've met in 14 years on the job.
NOTHING goes higher than a 2nd in detroit. look up some of the other videos...its freaking crazy. some of those fires would even have FDNY and Chicago panicked.
Radio traffic indicates polycarb in building that might be more the cause of the black smoke rather than backdraft conditions. But really why take the chance. It does lokk "cottony"
When you see ,how the Black smoke get pressed out of the upper flow,I see also there the Danger of a Falshover or a Backdraft. This Tense Smoke like here is a sign for Heat but not enough Air full a full involving Fire.this can Cause a Backdraft or a Hugh Flashover.
Dispatcher, AAA+++++ score! Scottasmothers puts it best! She SHOULD be the example to train other dispatchers, very calm,VERY clear, and most important - THOROUGH!
ilive only about amile from there and that was a hell of a fire that building is still standing it took them a week to put out the building was to dangerous for them to enter the 3rd floor collased in to the 2nd floor i remember a warehouse fire back in 1987 were they lost 3 firefighters the guy who started it was charged for the deaths of those firefighters
detrioit fire is an amazing company! they catch all the flack and still get the job done and safely! and the dispatcher is amazing! i wish mine was anywhere near as good!
As a former firefighter of a bordering suburban department i will say DFD is amongst the best.Politicians keep taking from them but they keep on keeping on. Stay safe Brothers and Sisters!!
It's just west of the I-96 / I-75 interchange. I rode E50 back in the mid-70's so I missed the really big jobs. If the fire didn't break though the roof then there is a chance of repair. Problem is that so many of those multi-story industrials are being lost first to fire and then the wrecking ball that soon Detroit won't have the industrial infrastructure necessary to rebound.
I remember listening to this fire, it was hard to listen to since they've switched to the state system, outside of the city it is choppy, but you got nice clear comms, its great to see what actually was happening, nice job filming!
VERY nice tower, double master stream....
