@toasteroven427 The manual for this one says light machine oil but I've used similar oils such as light all-purpose oil with no problems. 5 drops in the cup above the motor, 1 drop in all the little oil ports. I'd be very interested to see yours running once you've oiled it up! Thanks for checking out my video
No problem! I love these DeJUR projectors Mine didn't come with a manual. I am uploaded of a video of it (non running), but once I do, I'm going to thread it and show a film of football highlights from 1945. By the way, I envy you're Charlie Chaplin film! Those old slapstick comedies are the best!
@toasteroven427 They sure are! I also have a Three Stooges film and a W.C. Fields Film which I watch often. Ebay can be your best friend for this sort of hobby
I can find any films here locally. I have to buy them all off of eBay. So far I have 3: a Betty Boop cartoon, football highlights of 1945, and a Winston Churchill documentary. I also ordered a Popeye cartoon, and waiting for it to come in. I have the Betty Boop one up on my channel, being played off my 1955 Kodak Brownie 300. I would really love to see your Three Stooges one! They have to be my favorite when it comes to slapstick.
@toasteroven427 They're a true classic when it comes to slapstick, even in the filmosound era of film. I'll put up a video of the film playing once I get a decent camera. And your Kodak Brownie is very nice! I've been looking for a new projector for my collection and have considered the Brownie along with the Kodak Pageant 16mm filmosound.
I have also been looking into upgrading to a 16mm projector. I would also like to go with a Kodak Pageant, as they are decently priced on eBay. The 16mm projector I really want is the 1958 RCA 16mm projector. However, they don't come cheap at all. I love my little Kodak Brownie! It was my first projector I bought. I like the simplicity of it and it's extremely easy to thread. They run for good prices on eBay too. The only thing I would recommend is getting the Brownie 500.
@toasteroven427 Wow I actually was interested in the RCA also but it's rare to see one on ebay and like you said, they certainly don't come cheap at all. I like the Kodak Brownies anyway. The first projector I ever used was a later model Brownie when I was about 12. To be honest, I gained most of my interest in film because of that.
I remember my grandparents showing me a Woody Woodpecker cartoon on a 1963 Bell & Howell 8mm projector. I was fascinated by the way film worked. How each film cell is a fractional movement, and when you play it, you get a movie. I wasn't able to get into film though because of how expensive some projectors are. Finding that Kodak Brownie at the Goodwill for 6 bucks was a Godsend!
@toasteroven427 6 bucks? What a steal! The most I have seen one sell for on ebay was about $90. And as far as Bell & Howell projectors go, they're definitely one of the best known projector brands from the late 50s to the mid 70s.
Yeah, it was sitting in the electronics shelf under some TVs, and I knew I just couldn't pass it up. Bel & Howell defiantly make some of the greatest projectors there are. My grandfather was suppose to give me it, along with their home movies from the '50s and '60s and all their old cartoons, but he can't seem to find them.
@toasteroven427 That's how I got this projector and my DeJUR 888AZ dual 8. My grandfather's neighbor passed away and his family left them in the house for my grandfather along with many other things including a projection screen which I should have kept but didn't.
A dual 8 would be nice to have, although I heard they can be dangerous to the film. There is a projector screen for sale here locally on Craigslist. I'm thinking about getting it.
@toasteroven427 It's always a nice thing to have a screen to project on as opposed to a wall or bed sheet. As far as dual 8 projectors being dangerous, they can be if you feed super 8 film through it while it's set on regular 8 or vis versa. One common problem is the switch doesn't completely change from one to the other thus causing feeding issues or film damage. I have had none of these problems with my DeJUR but almost ended up destroying this Charlie Chaplin film in my Bell & Howell Lumina 2
Oh that's not good! I was looking into getting one, but I heard about the bad track record they had. I'll go ahead and probably get the film screen. Finding a spot to put it when it's not in use may prove to be a bit of a challenge of though.
@toasteroven427 That was my concern also, as they are rather bulky and tall. And I would definitely NOT recommend the B&H Lumina II because it was nothing but problems from the moment I got it. I ended up parting it out and chucking it in the trash.
Sounds like the perfect place for it hahaha. I was looking at Super 8 projects and boy they want a lot for them! I'd be better off with a 16mm projector.
Very cool! I have the same projector, mine is from 1949. What do you use to oil the motor? Mine needs to be re-oiled before I can run it.
